Well, I'm sticking with frost regardless. Playing for fun over high end raiding so. HOPE Blizz reconsiders this GCD thing. It's really dumb, even if I'm not super effected by it.
I wish they just made some of the artifact abilities and traits baseline rather than this either outright removal of everything or the making of the trait/ability a talent. They balanced so many classes and specs around their artifact weapons, that with their removal, and the global cooldown changes, yeah, it makes sense that most of these specs or classes will feel either unfinished or unplayable.
I'm not liking any of this, especially the nerf to Gorefiend's Grasp.Guess the upside to allied races not being able to be DKs means I won't have a choice but to main something else.
These opinions are realizing my nightmares about BfA for DK, I'm dreading playing my main class this expansion.
I'm not too worried about losing Thoughtseize for Reap Magic, since I wasn't too thrilled about the former. Giving us a variation of Spellsteal would not only force competition with Mages for certain buffs but, much like the issues with Dark Simulacrum which inspired it, give us a utility that could be pre-empted by a multitude of other classes (DSim was defeated by any interrupt, Thoughtseize by any dispel) while still having our performance be tuned around its use. At least "Reap Magic" sounds like the proper flavor to marry the "death" and "anti-magic" concepts.I am a little worried about them splitting up Death's Advance and Wraith Walk, since I know I'll probably mix them up by accident several times during the expansion, or kick myself for using one where the other would have done.As for Unholy, as much as part of me is still holding out hope we'll be up for another revamp due to the mixed opinions on Festering Wounds in Legion, the fact that we're this deep into Alpha with no changes beyond the removal of artifact abilities does not bode well. The loss of Apocalypse will make the Whack-A-Mole flavor of Wounds grow stale. And while I know Sludge Belcher's Hook is off the GCD, I would much rather have the talent replaced with something that gives us a second charge of Death Grip instead. The minimum range and animation time make it all but useless as an interrupt, and any time I try to utilize the Hook like a spare Grip, my minion instinctively books it for my target and grips short of where I want it anyway. Not to mention that a straight DPS increase shouldn't be in a utility tier anyway; the damage benefits should just be baseline, with a glyph for the Abomination appearances.I wouldn't be sad to see Arbiter replaced with a new talent instead, like the Tak'theritrix legendary effect, or a stronger variant of the Tier 20 4-piece bonus.
DKs have been pretty awesome in Legion, both in PvE and PvP. The articles have covered all the specializations pretty well for PvE, so I'm just going to talk a bit about Frost PvP.
I'm not looking forward to reading what the state of hunters is.....from the looks of it a lot of classes are not going to be fun to play.....
Not surprised that they haven't even touched Unholy yet given that their approach to balancing it in Legion was to throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks.
I was so hyped for BfA, but the more I read about what Blizzard is doing with the classes and main mechanics, like the stupid GCD change, the more I feel like taking a break from wow until the mid of the xpac at least, hoping for things to change for better. I don't think they will have time to fix all those crippling issues anytime soon, especially with a launch date so close.
Lots of the passives and few active abilities came from the artifact weapon. And while it is now gone, I imagine that we will get a lot of new passive abilities with the Azerite gear. They have to keep the core gameplay barebones and clunky so the customization the new system brings can significantly change the gameplay and make you look forward to improving.Well, I hope so at least. Also, to the point of PvP suffering way more... I can't tell for sure, as I rarely ever play PvP... but there are completely separate talents and abilities just for PvP (that also change probably). And they will come on top of this basic rotation AND on top of the Azerite gear. So it's rather difficult to say how it's gonna work out.I myself am too lazy to investigate all the perks of the Azerite gear right now. I will learn while playing. Not losing my time with calculation now. Especially since lots of things are gonna change. But truth be told, I am not liking that Death Knights are getting their CC options limited, are slowed and their defensive options almost removed. Hopefully the new abilities are gonna be so overpowered that they will more than make up for it.
Well... as a main BDK player and an alpha wielder person, I'm really sad with all those changes. Everything looks so slow while tanking... healing is also awful and all the things we use to have as baseline are now talents, but slightly worse.
I always tune out when I read the "state of a class" as envisioned by a Discord moderator/group owner/whatever.
First of, I don't play the Alpha and I love and main Unholy. I hate that Legion build the spec "around" the weapon and not the other way. I can only imagine how it works but hearing it only confirms it. The weapon gave us so much! Super Zombies, suicide army and multiple Sudden Doom with out it it would feel like a garbage. Army feels like garbage with its 10 min cooldown for 3 rune's.Gargoyl does nothing, and so many talents who could need a buff and a suffeling like they did with the Shamen class. There is a lot of work to do for this spec so no wounder this is going to take so much time.If I had a wish I would love to see the Unholy DK more like a Meele Demonology lock, not with demons but with undead! I would like to have that Overlord feeling.:D And I had to ask myself why would wowhead group make a "Battle for Azeroth Community Opinions: Class Changes and State of DKs" if just the Blood DK got a "rework" on talents. I feel this post is too soon. :P Maybe next week we are going to get new stuff and this post ist out to date or I hope so. :/ Ps Sry for Grammer
I could say that there are more negative state of FDK than positive. And you can't blame it. I don't know why the devs can't make the spec more neutral and stable. Because the Dks can be too OP (like in Cata or Wotlk. They were op caz of the utility they got) or just a 3 button slow @ss class on steroids. That the only job is to go 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3 and hit like truck but still 0 utility (YES 0 utility. Compared to Wotlk and Cata dks). They are boring and people got bored of the simplicity of this spec. I know that some people will say "they are ok and you are wrong". I guess this can say people that jumped on dk quite recently. Blizzard is taking away the fantasy and the idea about the dks. Dks are the annihilators of the Death with BIG weapons and not the brainless, hasty poking machines with small toothpicks.
Yikes, will mothball the DK if the live is anything like this disaster. Seems like artifacts had a much larger impact on DK effectiveness than other classes.
exactly as i feared. losing passives is just a question of tuning, i suppose it will be mostly a psychological thing after the stat squish getting used to little numbers as opposed to millions.losing some traits though really shows how the frost dk kit is wearing thin, AMS got nerfed in legion and mirror ball is disappearing. IBF is not optimal and mobility is still a joke (wraith walk is still really bad, WoD Death's Advance was just as good as it was, sigh). Most of all though is the gameplay i am worried about. Nighthold tier Breath build was great fun rewarding smart use of the cooldown, machine gun is, wel,l good button smashing fun. with the GCD changes they introduced the gameplay will be slow, clunky and feeling generally unresponsive which is frustrating. It seems they are still pushing for thew "slow moving juggernaut" fantasy for DK minus the hard-hitting part when you finally get to melee.Speaking of traits, they should really give Sindragosa's fury as a talent or baseline, that's too cool an idea to drop it and DKs really need some good class fantasy pushing (i would love them to make runic weapons more of a core element of the class but that's probably too much development for one single class)TLDR; The GCD change is really taking the fun away from all the fast paced classes (havoc, futy, frost) and since those are al i play (and i only play BE so thanks for also trashing arcane torrent) i am really regretting pre-ordering the expansion on gameplay concerns alone.
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPDKS!
DK has always been my main, but reading these really makes me feel better about maintaining a small army of alts.
Unholy harder than Frost? omegalul, in what universe is thoughtlessly spamming DC hard? :DIn BfA where Unholy isn't completely brain-dead like in Legion that might be the case, though we'll have to wait and see how Frost changes pan out. Hopefully, BoS will be back with the change to ERW. Though without Pillar of Frost god only knows if it's gonna be enough to do competitive damage.
