With the new Alpha build going up today, we're going to enable some initial testing of one piece of Azerite Armor, with one set of choices. To access it, you'll need to create a new character, and you'll find it equipped on your character.

Note that some elements are still placeholder (including the UI), but we're still interested in any early feedback you have on this feature. We'll be rolling out additional pieces of Azerite Armor for testing as the Alpha continues.

Level 1

Champion of Azeroth: Contributing to the death of an enemy of Azeroth heals you for 624 and grants you 22 Versatility for 1 min, stacking up to 2 times.

Heart Strike deals an additional 77 damage when hitting 3 or more targets and heals you for a percentage of the damage done.

Pillar of Frost grants an additional 77 strength while you are above 75% health.

Death Coil causes your next Festering Strike to deal an additional 77 damage.

Using Demon's Bite 3 times in a row grants you 23 Mastery for 4 sec.

When Fiery Brand expires on your primary target, you gain a shield that absorbs up to 4695 damage for 15 sec, based on your damage dealt to them while Fiery Brand was active.

Swiftmend causes your Efflorescence mushroom to burst, healing a nearby injured ally for 231.

Mangle increases the healing of the next ability to heal you by 231.

While Berserk is active, your Rip deals an additional (s1 * 1.857) damage each time it deals damage.

While Celestial Alignment is active, your spells call a Streaking Star, dealing an additional 231 damage when they are not a repeat of the previous ability.

In The Rhythm When Rapid Fire finishes fully channeling, your Haste is increased by 24 for 8 sec.

Kill Command has a 40% chance to deal an additional 156 damage and grant your Pet 15 Focus.

Wildfire Bomb drops a small cluster of bombs around the target, each exploding for 31 damage.

Arcane Blast deals an additional 154 damage while you have 4 Arcane Charges.

Enhanced Pyrotechnics grants an additional 0 Haste.

Ice Lance deals an additional 34 damage to enemies recently damaged by your Frozen Orb.

Keg Smash deals an additional 69 damage against targets burning from your Breath of Fire, and heals you for 5% of the damage dealt to those targets.

Invigorating Brew: Vivify does an additional 173 healing when empowered by Thunder Focus Tea.

Fists of Fury grants you 40 Critical Strike for 6 sec when it hits at least 4 enemies.

Avenger's Shield grants you a shield, absorbing 313 damage for 8 sec.

While Avenging Wrath is active, gain 46 Mastery.

Light of the Martyr has a chance to cause your Blessing of Sacrifice to additionally heal the target for 6. This effect can stack up to 10 times.

Pain Suppression applies Atonement to the target and instantly heals them for 313.

Flash Heal increases the healing of your Flash Heals on that ally by 63 for 6 sec.

Mind Sear deals an additional 25 damage to enemies suffering from your Shadow Word: Pain.

Between the Eyes increases the damage of your next Pistol Shot by 462.

Your autoattacks increase the damage of your next Shuriken Toss by 15, stacking up to 20 times.

When Mutilate applies Lethal poison with both daggers, it poisons them for an additional 94 damage.

Melee attacks with Flametongue active increase the damage the target takes from your next Lava Lash by 15, stacking up to 10 times.

Lava Bursts on a target that has been struck by your Lightning in the last 4 sec deal an additional 77 damage.

Your Chain Heal heals its primary target for an additional 23 healing.

When your Rain of Fire damages 3 or more targets, gain 77 Haste for 8 sec.

When your summoned Dreadstalkers fade away, they increase the damage of your Shadow Bolt by 47 for 8 sec.

Every other Soul Shard your Agony generates also increases your Intellect by 63 for 6 sec.

When Thunder Clap damages only one enemy, it deals an additional 157 damage and grants you an absorption shield for 313.

Execute increases the damage of your next Mortal Strike against the target by 235, stacking up to 2 times.

Rampaging an enemy whose health percentage is lower than yours increases your Versatility by 0 for 6 sec.

Level 4

Winds of War: Taking damage grants you 17 Dodge for 3 sec, stacking up to 10 times.

Woundbinder: Your healing effects have a chance to increase your Haste by up to 78 for 6 sec. Healing lower health targets will grant you more Haste.

Elemental Whirl: Your damaging abilities have a chance to grant you Elemental Whirl, increasing your Critical Strike, Haste, Mastery, or Versatility by 97 for 10 sec.

Gutripper: Your damaging abilities have a chance to deal 347 Physical damage to the target. Gutripper occurs much more often against targets below 30% health.

Blood Siphon: Increases your Mastery by 28 and your Leech by 14.

Savior: Your heals on targets below 35% health have a chance to heal for an additional 208.

Level 7

Vampiric Speed: When an enemy you damaged dies, you heal for 624 and gain 49 Speed for 6 sec.

Resounding Protection: Every 30 sec, gain an absorb shield for 208 for 30 sec.

Level 10

Azerite Empowered: Increases the item level this item by 5.

Considering that these choices are made per gear, I can imagine some trait combination synergizing in a way that can swing choices in many directions instead of a single one. Time will tell with more revealed.

Artifact Trees barely changed in Alpha.Comment by darquisI very much like the "contributed to death" idea instead of killing blow for the healing and other procsComment by VindalSo I guess that the first layer of traits right now is just placeholder, because you won't have to chose between obvious spec choice (like you won't take the disco trait instead of the mind sear one as a SP). And that traits change between specs, because otherwise it will be very boring soon.

Now something bothers me a lot, so far the heart of Azeroth goes to level 10. But once you reach this level there's no need to go higher as you unlock the maximum traits for ALL your Azerite gear?
We don't know the pace at which we will level up but the way it seems to go is that the system is regressive (as in the number of choice decreases so that you can't go further than level 10 in this layout). Whereas artifact weapons were growing outward and it was easier to implement new traits (as we saw throughout legion).
So I fear that the system as it is now will not be very long lived. I think they should reconsider the way you gain options/ new traits as you level up your artifact neck.

And I know that it's still Alpha and that this is still early stages of development, but it's something I started thinking about whilst watching Blizzcon last year and I feel comforted in my opinion now.Comment by yoppa74these are probably the first and weakest and least complex azerite traits you will get in the entire expansion... i expect raid pieces to have something much betterComment by Fairelmainewhen people can't appreciate a great expansionComment by UnusI never thought I could be this underwhelmed by an expansion, but BFA is really doing a good job so far.
