Excellent writing on the issues with the mage specs. Could have mentioned shimmer-enabled double IL and the travel time, haste and distance-to-target interactions. Though most of those problems are mostly fixed already.
Great discussion. I love playing my Frost Mage but as Norrinir stated, the worst feeling in the world is being forced to munch Fingers of Frost procs.
mages always suck!
As a longtime Arcane Mage I really hope they fix Arcane Explosion and Arcane Missiles. Arcane Missiles is the backbone of the spec and needs to keep its bursty nature. Arcane Explosion they FINALLY fixed and had it in a good place and they nerfed it back down to being worthless. Several months left to go but I really hope they change their minds, if not on building charges then at least on the damage potential.
We need to be able to shapeshift into giant blue crabs. That would totally fix ... something.
As a fan of Arcane, I think the discussion above on arcane mages in BoA really hit the points! Looking forward to more tuning.
/crack knucklesAbout time.
Am I the only one who wants back Deep freeze and Alter time? I lost a great deal of my play style since the removal
Please tell me we get Dalaran Intellect back.
Having only played frost and fire since MoP, and having just discovered arcane about two months ago, I'm a bit saddened to read these reports.I'm having a blast playing arcane, and even though the spec isn't flawless, I don't feel like most of these changes are relevant in any way, especially concerning the aoe. Really hoping that blizzard will listen to the players and change only what really needs to be changed (what they didn't do for warlocks for Legion launch, for example)
If blizzard want to remove the effect of charges on Arcane Explosion that seems reasonable BUT it still needs to build charges to enable blast/barrage conversion. How many times is there a larger mob with sets of small adds needing to quickly switch having to build up arcane charges with only blast is not viable.
I just don't want them to make arcane wrath-style, where you only used like AB into ABarr
Why don't they make Splitting Ice Baseline already? I would rather they converted the talent to Single Ice (or something more creative) where our affected spells only hit one target and do 5% more damage. From a scientific point of view it doesn't make sense how splitting ice somehow increases damage :) :) :) :)
Fire mage here. With the recent changes to GCD on the alpha, I'm worried that they're making the fire spec slower paced.Throughout the Legion, I had a blast learning the complexity of the spec and training in adapting to different situations (movement necessity, enemy count, cooldown saving, incoming mechanics) and using gut feeling for the buffless "do I use fire blast now and count on the pyro in flight to crit naturally?" situations. It was even better when flame on was still an active ability - got changed just as I learned how to use it.I think that it's much more entertaining having a faster paced spec, having to think about more things, than to have a two button spec - anyone remember The Burning Crusade 5*scorch+fireball*∞? Fingers crossed for Azerite traits to enable us to custom tailor the pace of the spec to our liking.
As an arcane mage so far for BFA and the current luck based mana issues with arcane the major thing I want back is mana gem. No it won't solve all the problems but a 3 button rotation is boring if you are a bad luck mage. I've hated every 'best dps output' build this expansion because it doesn't feel good and I really want to see huge changes in BFA.
