Time to mog my 2handers toons with , in memory of the never forgotten The Scepter of the Shifting Sands!
I started playing somewhere in the middle/end of all this. Had no idea any of it was going on, I just knew that if I gave bandages to an NPC in Valley of the Spirits, I got rewarded. Seemed like a good deal at the time.
The first server to open Ahn'Qiraj was Medivh-US, on January 23rd, 2009Uhhhmm........yea.
Or just pay $25 and you get the mount and title so you could say it was the first cash mount blizzard made.
Oh god, please don't remind me grinding the reputation. I'm still having nightmares of those insect hives in tanaris - ok, not really but farming insects for days was not that much fun. Especially if you played on a relatively low pop server and nobody had any interest in helping because almost every other guild didn't really care about opening AQ.And then people didn't understand what was going on and instead of Silithid Carapace Fragment I got sent hundreds of Silithid Chitin (which was a common/white item then) from people who got confused by the same icon. Now I really want to dig through my old backups and try to find the data of our guild website from vanilla.... Thanks I guess. ;)One small correction though: Originally you only got 200 rep when turning in Silithid Carapace Fragment which means you had to get 42000 (40k from Hated to Unfriendly and 2k to Neutral iirc) of those to get to Neutral. The change to 500 rep per turnin happened with 2.0, which you can check in the old thottbot comments on the Wayback Machine (Direct Link to quest).
I remembered that i gathered a #$%^ load of stuff for this, and then some moron smashed the gong and i was not home, and due to that i did not get the damn mount, still think it was a *!@# move from Blizzard that you could had done NOTHING to help, but just be there for the gong and get the mount, really hate Blizzard for that *!@#ty move.
It's been over a decade, am I'm STILL butthurt I didn't get that mount
I was on Aerie Peak when the 10-hr war happened. We all were up all night long in a total and complete server-crash-fest! Even though after every crash, we sometimes had to wait up to 45mins in the server que just to log bag into our server, it was 100% worth it!Man, good times indeed!
This was around the time I started playing the game, been in and out over the years but was truly a fun time working with the rest of the server to unlock it. I ended up missing the gong event on our server but not sure if my PC back then would have handled it well, running AQ40 with the guild was a strain in itself. Heck even the hardware Blizz was running for some servers was aging and would often crash on boss fights in AQ. My guild got fed up to the point they wanted everyone to do a paid transfer to a newly hardware upgraded server which split up the guild since only half the guild moved. About 6 months later they replaced the hardware on our original server and they wanted everyone to transfer back. I chose to part ways and just make another toon on a non-PVP server with my brother when BC was announced.
And today, the whole thing would be datamined and a dozen guides written three months before it even launched. I do miss the sense of mystery.
The AQ war effort was a good time to level your alts, indeed. Free low-level gear for all that bandages
As of 1.13.2 (November 2019), the boat still goes to Stonetalon when server lags up..
Anyone have any ideas on how to get around the huge faction imbalance on some servers? Assuming Blizzard is going to roll out the event as was. Some servers Alliance side is going to be done their turn ins well ahead of the Horde and vice versa.
