Well, that's interesting. But actually it would be nice to have some more non necessary tier-type items combinations. Something like Return to Karazhan or The Arcway stuff.
So there will be tier sets, just with no bonuses.
Wonder how this will play out . While I'm glad to see them go away in one form or another , allowing us to use gear pieces with the stats we actually want to have for our specs, I can't help but to feel a bit odd about it , since its been part of the game from the very start of wow.
Huh? So are we or are we not going to have armor sets for the twelve classes based around their class fantasy? Or is it going to be "cloth set 1 and 2, leather set 1 and 2" etc? I'll miss that if it goes away.
It's kind of a refreshing change actually. I had to debate whether or not to swap out a tier piece with "meh" stats and break the set, for a significantly higher item level item with all my best stats. If the gear is better you should be able to use it. I think they also are looking at the time they spend balancing classes. Tier bonuses can really muck with that (see the recent WW monk changes). Maybe this will help with balancing?
given how to bonuses were pretty lame lately, i don't think i'll miss them anyway lol
Huh? So are we or are we not going to have armor sets for the twelve classes based around their class fantasy? Or is it going to be "cloth set 1 and 2, leather set 1 and 2" etc? I'll miss that if it goes away.\r\rI think it's the bonuses that they are getting rid of. Sounds like they are keeping the appearances. I doubt they would just go generic given all the class fantasy work they put into Legion.
THANK YOU BEST DECISION FINALLY GOING THE WAY OF THE DODO
lets break what worked for 14yrs mhm kay
It sucks that they only just decide this now. I like having those little bonuses when new raids come out. Now gear's gonna feel all the same to me, no special sets unless they do those trinkets (or other items) like wojbik mentioned.
So there will be tier sets, just with no bonuses.\r\rThere will be item sets, in the sense that gear will be thematic. That's the aesthetic of it, though. Tier sets indicated raid tiers and items that were designed uniquely for each class.\rGiven what Ion's saying here, we can assume that gear will maintain the RNG pattern of boss drops, and items will share a thematic appearance based upon where they drop. Without bonuses or the specificity of design, we're not really working with Tier sets in any recognizable fashion.
Wow I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not but it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I'd love to see maybe smaller interacting sets like rings or the antorus trinkets.
This is interesting. It could go either way, very good or very bad, depending on how they do it. I, for one, am looking forward to see how it's done. Always cool to me when they try new things. Even if it's a flop, blizzard tends to use the positive aspects in future games so that's always fun :)
To be fair, the slots that will occupy the Azerite armor would also be contested with the Tier pieces.\rOr at least a few of them.\r\rWhat would be a 2 or 4 piece bonus might now just be what you unlock on the Azerite armor instead.\rSo instead of having to collect 2 or 4 pieces, now it's just one, and unlocking the "bonus" on the gear.
Sets based more on the "where" and less on the class wearing it, is definitely more desirable.\r\rMakes more immersive sense, if we go kill a bunch of trolls, we get troll-themed armor. Or if we slaughter a ton of naga and water elementals, we get something visually appropriate to the area, not that "represents my class". It also won't lock some new transmogs behind the class wall, either.
But, but, but... I don't wanna look like other casters :(( And bonuses could be fun and change up your play-style sometimes! :O
so every leather user can use every leather piece in BfA. where is class fantasy?
It sounds like they're going back on what they did for Legion. In Warlords, the sets were heavily themed for the place they came from, but in Legion they were themed for the class.
I like this change. It's one less aspect of balance to have to worry about, and makes tier rolls a lot less contentious. I hate never getting 3 pieces of tier because everyone with 3 pieces gets priority for 4 piece. Or having to wear LFR tier for the set bonus. This will be great, as long as unique looking sets still exist! Hell, maybe just make the appearance available to challenging content outside of the raid.
"Let's get rid of something that worked for 14 years! Let's making raiding secondary to spammable mythic plus! Let's make raid nearly useless!" Blizzard logic...
