That's kind of the point. If you can't beat silver for a specific role then you shouldn't be queueing as that role in the first place. Comment by Shoddythetroll I never played Proving Grounds personally but despite that Blizz is 'force-feeding' content to players to do other PvE content i.e heroic dungeons, I think it's a nice change to test players' competence and aptitude in their respective roles, given that WoD heroics won't be a mindless faceroll like MoP\/cata. You get the tools from normal, you get the skills to use them in proving grounds. Comment by Rankkor I approve of this feature, and am only saddened that the same meassure wont be applied to LFR (Which has an even more dire need of it)\r

Having a certain ilvl is not a guarantee of success, specially so on later patches were attaining gear from the previous tiers is easier. This leads to people who are not qualified to perform as a tank or a healer, queueing as tanks or healers simply because its more convenient (less waiting time)\r

I've had my fill of enough tanks that don't spec properly, don't itemize themselves properly, or don't know their mechanics at all. From Monk Healers wearing AGI leather, to Dualwielding Blood DKs in frost presence, to the sacrilege of Fury Warriors in defensive stance as tanks.\r

The common denominator for all of these is people without a basic understanding of how their class works, and simply choosing the Tank or Healer role purely because of the shorter waiting time, and the extra bag of rewards.\r

I've also seen people who are honestly attempting to learn their class role, such as someone wanting to try healing, only to be inexperienced about it. Their learning curve comes at the expense of others, and this shouldn't be so.\r

While this measure wont be enough to deter some of the toxicity of LFG (There will always be those that AFK, or those who are skilled yet rude and abrasive, etc) it will serve to a great degree to curb the inexperienced players, by making them understand at least the basics for their role before queuing.\r

And Silver is a very reasonable requirement, its not particularly hard to get. I myself am a terrible healer, and yet even I was able to get a silver medal on the healer trial. All it takes is a modicum of effort, and a basic understanding of your mechanics, and rotation. Nothing more, nothing less. In alot of other ways it does seem silly. if I cannot kill preset mobs useing mechanics that don't seem intuitive that makes me a bad dpser? That is hugely silly! Proving grounds does nothing to show if you know your class and how to play it at all. being a good dpser takes someone who is paying attention and can move while dpsing on the run. What it does not take is someone who can kill stationary mobs with mechanics shot by other stationary mobs.....well unless heroic mobs in WoD are gonna be just standing around. As it stands, I'm a DPS who was regularly clearing heroic raiding content in Cata, and still cannot make the timer on my feral druid for silver. The mechanics of druids aren't overly bursty; as it stands, bursty classes have a gigantic advantage in current proving grounds. Probably won't have to do it again if you already have them, since it shows that you have already proven yourself. Comment by link55557 i would like if you need gold to queue for lfr.

It's kind of painfully insane how badly a Fury Warrior is gimped when an item level reduction causes our crit rating to go back to pre-raid levels. Requiring gold would screw over my entire spec.

You've forgotten that LFR is primarily for players who won't be doing heroics anyway. That self-identified serious raiders use LFR as part of their progression doesn't change the fact that LFR isn't really for serious raiders. It's for non-raiders who still want to experience end game content, and that's why there is no competency-gating requirement.
