The engineering work was tremendous, just a ton of work. We had several guys, full time on it for months on end, doing that work.\rAHA! No one can ever give me the old resource allocation argument anymore. This makes it official: pet battles took a lot of development time away from actual, relevant features that players want. That's one instance where I wish I were wrong though.
Really looking forward to Mists more and more with every bit of news that's released. ^^

You may feel that it took features away from what you consider 'Relevant' content, but some people will be looking forward to pet battles. \r\rHonestly though, every change takes resources. Your comment assumes that they had a set amount of resources to spend and then they divided them up between the content. That is not a business model that works. Yea you can set budgets and goals for individual parts of development, but the idea that a team would spend extra in one department (ie pet battles) and in turn they would take it away from say raid development is not feasible.\r\rA more accurate real world model:\rHere is your budget Mr Department manager, how well you keep to it and the quality of your teams project determines your bonus/pay raise/eligibility for promotion. If you need more present your reasons why and we will evaluate it.\r\rAnd working with a payroll budget myself, there is always weeks over and under. Sometimes you have an excuse and others you do not. But if your over and your reasons are backed by productivity, you are usually given a pat on the back.\r\rI would love it if people would just speak on facts instead of assumptions.

Just because you don´t like it, doesn´t mean the devs wasted resources building the system.\r\rI have never done arenas, but yet I am smart enough to not come on he forums and complain about wasted dev time that could be spent on ´relevant´ features.
Hazzikostas? A countryman! γεια σας!
Even historically in vanilla people would refrain from turning in quests because you could keep some item that would transform your character, and that was something they really had a strong attachment to. We love creating those items\r\r...and that's why we got rid of Dartol's rod of transformation.

That's one instance where I wish I were wrong though.\r\r"actual, relevant features that players want."... more like "actual, relevant features that you want." Just face it, there will never be something that everyone likes and that you happen to not like doesn't mean it's a waste. It's not your private game. Also, they never actually said that the same guys who were doing it would be doing the "relevant" content instead. Rather, they would either do nothing or would be hired for something completely different for a different game.
Pet battle is actual feature I want\r\rAn other one is the farm\r\r\rI will prefer exploration, adventure and mini-games than crazy stuff for hardcore raid players. I also don't care for arenas.
I still have the old one, and it works everywhere. They did not remove the old Dartol's Rod of Transformation from the inventories of people who already had it, just its method of acquisition. Also they only restricted its use from everywhere for a relatively short period. I actually appreciate that they removed that method of acquisition for the rod, because before, you could not have the rod and be a loremaster at the same time, which is one issue I believe they were attempting to remedy.
More specific/targetted questions please. Most nerds visiting such sites don't care much about the 'aesthetics' and other such vague concepts.

That's one instance where I wish I were wrong though.\r\rThe Pet battle system is a actual and relevant feature that players want. Just because you dont want it doesnt mean a sizable percentage of the other 9 million players are not looking foward to it.

AHA! No one can ever give me the old resource allocation argument anymore. This makes it official: pet battles took a lot of development time away from actual, relevant features that players want. That's one instance where I wish I were wrong though.\r\rTranslation: They took resources away from more dungeons and raids that get stale fast to put new stuff in the game. The HORROR!
OMG soooo agree, tired of these fluffy ask nothing get no real answers back questions....and then they go and basically repeat themselves. :-(
