Kirin Tor Familiar, an arcane elemental, is obtained after completing Higher Learning in Dalaran. You will need to scour the city for eight books talking about arcane magic—beware the humorous junk books that can sometimes spawn instead. You’ll also receive The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery which teleports you to a secret library in Dalaran.

Pebble is a reward for completing Rock Lover, finishing Lost In The Deeps 10 times.

Perky Pug is a reward for completing Looking For Multitudes, requiring you to pug random dungeons with 100 players.

Turkey Cage is a reward for completing Pilgrim. This turkey runs towards the fire and cooks itself.

Satchel of Exotic Mysteries

Alliance pets for 40 Champion's Seal: Ammen Vale Lashling, Dun Morogh Cub, Elwynn Lamb, Mechanopeep, Teldrassil Sproutling.

Horde pets for 40 Champion's Seal: Durotar Scorpion, Enchanted Broom, Mulgore Hatchling, Sen'jin Fetish, Tirisfal Batling.

The Argent Gruntling/Argent Squire is a quest reward for completing A Champion Rises, available when you become a Champion with your home faction. To become a champion, you will have to obtain 25 Valiant Seals from daily quests and then defeat an Argent Champion at jousting. This pet has the option to display a banner for each faction you are a Champion of. For 150 Champion's Seal, you can purchase a Argent Pony Bridle from Dame Evniki Kapsalis which allows your squire to access a mailbox, vendor, or bank every four hours. You must earn Exalted Argent Champion of the Alliance/Exalted Argent Champion of the Horde to buy this.

Shimmering Wyrmling is purchasable with 40 Champion's Seal upon obtaining Exalted with The Sunreavers/The Silver Covenant. These NPCs provide daily quests at the Argent Tournament and there’s spillover rep from other dailies. There is a version without a faction requirement available from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Frosty's Collar is a reward from the Wrath of the Lich King Collector’s Edition.

Grunty is a reward from attending BlizzCon 2009 or purchasing the feed. Grunty and the Zergling like to fight each other.

Lil' Deathwing is a reward from purchasing the Cataclysm Collector’s Edition. He breaths fire!

Lurky's Egg is an extra reward for European players who purchased the Burning Crusade Collectors Edition.

Players who purchased the Collector's Edition of the original game can get the following three BoA pets: Diablo Stone, Panda Collar, and Zergling Leash.

Mini Thor is a reward from purchasing the Collector's Edition of Starcraft II.

Tyrael's Hilt is a reward from the 2008 World Wide Invitational, a miniature verseion of Archangel Tyrael from Diablo 2.

Murky, a blue murloc, is a reward for attending BlizzCon 2005.

Netherwhelp's Collar is a reward from the Burning Crusade Collector’s edition.

Smoldering Murloc Egg is a gift for either attending or watching the BlizzCon 2010 feed.

Murky's Little Soulstone is a gift for either attending or watching the BlizzCon 2011 feed.

Fetish Shaman's Spear has been confirmed as the Diablo III collector's edition minipet.

Pandaren Monk: This pet costs $10: it has a unique summoning animation, bows, and practices kung-fu.

Cenarion Hatchling: This pet costs $10 and until July 31, 2011, all proceeds went to the earthquake relief in Japan.

Lil' Phylactery costs $10; he likes to kill critters and pretend to be scary.

Lil' Ragnaros is another tiny hero who costs $10: he doesn’t have legs, but you can use him as a cooking fire.

Core Hound Pup arrives when you attach an Authenticator onto your account. If you turn off your authenticator, you can’t use this pet.

Lil' XT costs $10 and has hilarious quotes and animations. He stays true to his ideals and destroys any number of toys and robots that cross his path.

Moonkin Hatchling costs $10 and changes appearance based on your faction. It has a number of cute animations such as flying and dancing.

Gryphon Hatchling and Wind Rider Cub are in-game pets that come mailed with adorable plushies. It's a hit with children of any age.

Guardian Cub matches the Winged Guardian also sold by Blizzard. The catch is that the pet is BoE--it can be sold on the AH for some gold.

Baby Raptors

Darting Hatchling is found in Dart's Nest, a randomly spawning nest in northern Dustwallow Marsh. It used to drop from Dart, a rare raptor, but this has been changed. This pet likes to run around and leave trails of dust. It's also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Deviate Hatchling, a purple baby raptor, is a zone drop from Deviate Ravager and Deviate Guardian in Wailing Caverns.

Gundrak Hatchling drops from Gundrak Raptors in northern Zul’Drak.

Leaping Hatchling is looted from Takk's Nest in the Northern Barrens. The pet likes to shuffle around and leap.

Ravasaur Hatchling, a baby green raptor, is acquired by looting Ravasaur Matriarch's Nest in Un’Goro Crater.

Razormaw Hatchling, a baby orange raptor, is acquired by looting Razormaw Matriarch's Nest in Wetlands.

Razzashi Hatchling used to drop in old Zul’Gurub; now it drops from mobs in Northern Stranglethorn. It's also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Instances

Mojo is acquired by using Amani Hex Stick on frogs in Zul'Aman. This pet is very friendly—he likes to flirt and if you /kiss, he will turn you into a frog.

Phoenix Hatchling drops from Kael'thas Sunstrider in heroic Magisters' Terrace, as well as from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Formerly from a quest, Worg Carrier now drops from Quartermaster Zigris in LBRS.

Parrot Cage (Green Wing Macaw) drops from Defias Pirates in The Deadmines on both normal and heroic difficulty. Cat Carrier (Siamese) used to drop from "Captain" Cookie, but in Cataclysm, it can be purchased from Dealer Rashad or found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Mother Smolderweb now drops Smolderweb Hatchling, a neon blue baby spider in LBRS.

Whelps

Azure Whelpling, formerly from Azshara, now drops from level 50-54 elites in Winterspring.

Tiny Crimson Whelpling drops from level 20-30 dragons in Wetlands.

Emerald Whelpling formerly from whelplings in the Swamp of Sorrows, drops in Feralas.

Dark Whelpling drops from dragons in Badlands.

Zone-wide Drops

Disgusting Oozeling drops from oozes in Azeroth, which all have a chance to drop Oozing Bag. It turns you green and gives you Oozeling's Disgusting Aura.

Captured Firefly drops from Bogflare Needler in Zangarmarsh.

Fox Kit is a BoP pet that drops from neutral Baradin Foxes in Tol Barad Peninsula. It does an adorable dance on its hind legs.

Tiny Shale Spider is a BoP spider that drops from Jadefang in Deepholm. To reach the alcove, you will either need Ricket's Tickers or malfunctioning rocket boots to be perfect knocked up and back.

Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw), one of the rarest pets in the game, drops in Stranglethorn Vale. It’s also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Cat Carrier (Black Tabby), formerly from Silverpine Forest and Dalaran Crater, now is a zone-wide drop from Hillsbrad Foothills. It is also included in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Sprite Darter Egg used to be an Alliance reward for completing a charming quest series in Feralas. With the changes to the zone, it's now a zone-wide drop for both Alliance and Horde.

Children's Week

At every Feast of Winter Veil, players have a chance to receive one of the following pets that requires a Snowball to summon: Green Helper Box, Red Helper Box, Jingling Bell, and Snowman Kit.

After completing an orphan chain in Dalaran from Oracle Orphan, you will receive Curious Oracle Hatchling or Curious Wolvar Pup soon after in the mail, depending if you took an Oracle or Wolvar child around. This can only be completed during Children’s Week.

Completing Back to the Orphanage for Children’s Week in Shattrath rewards you with one of the following pet options: Elekk Training Collar, a baby elekk; Egbert's Egg a baby hawkstrider; Sleepy Willy a baby…monster?; and new to 4.1, Legs, a baby marshwalker. Collecting the three original pets rewards you with Veteran Nanny.

During the Midsummer Festival, players who battle Ahune receive a Satchel of Chilled Goods which has a small chance to contain Ice Chip. This pet, a mini-elemental, leaves an ice patch behind and randomly throws snowballs. In past years, Scorched Stone dropped from Ahune.

Completing A Warden of the Alliance/A Warden of the Horde, the original series of Children’s Week quests, allows you to choose between these four pets: Piglet's Collar, Rat Cage, Turtle Box, and Snail Shell.

Murkimus' Little Spear is a reward for completing 200 games (not even winning!) during the yearly Arena Tournament.

Peddlefeet is obtainable during the Love is in the Air festival for 40 Love Token. During this holiday, you can also obtain Toxic Wasteling for defeating the holiday boss in Shadowfang Keep. This pet loves eating critters and grows larger upon devouring them.

Wolpertinger is a reward during Brewfest for completing Catch the Wild Wolpertinger!. It’s a small rabbit with antlers that’s invisible to others unless they are drunk!

Pint-Sized Pink Pachyderm, another Brewfest reward, is a pink elekk for 100 Brewfest Prize Token.

Spirit of Summer, available during the Midsummer Fire Festival, costs 350 Burning Blossom. These can be obtained by visiting the campfires around Azeroth and completing daily quests.

Spring Rabbit, obtainable during Noblegarden, can be discovered in an egg or purchased for 100 Noblegarden Chocolate if you are unlucky. If it comes across another bunny, it will fall in love.

New to Winter Veil 2011 was the Lump of Coal from Stolen Present, which summoned an earth elemental.

New pets for the 2012 Lunar Festival: Festival Lantern and Lunar Lantern.

Armadillo Pup is unlocked by completing Critter Kill Squad. It costs and requires Revered reputation.

Dark Phoenix Hatchling is unlocked by completing . It costs and requires Honored reputation.

Guild Herald, with unique models for Alliance and Horde, is unlocked after completing Profit Sharing. It costs and serves as a portable guild vendor every 4 hours, requiring Exalted to purchase.

The Guild Page, again with unique models for Alliance and Horde, is unlocked after completing Alliance Slayer/Horde Slayer. It requires Honored reputation to purchase and costs 300g.

Lil' Tarecgosa will be a guild reward unlocked once a member has completed Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest - Guild Edition.

Baby Blizzard Bear: this adorable pet was obtained by completing WoW's 4th Anniversary. It is BoA, so you can send it to newer toons.

Clockwork Rocket Bot was the 2007 special holiday gift for Winter’s Veil. It attacks other robots and casts a few relatively harmless spells.

Competitor's Souvenir was available on Chinese servers as a promotional event during the 2008 Olympics.

Golden Pig Coin and Silver Pig Coin are only available on Chinese servers during the spring festival.

Gurky is a pink murloc periodically given out to fan participants on the European website.

In 2009, there was a pet giveaway in China, for Jade Tiger.Other pets exclusive to Chinese servers are Green Dragon Orb and Red Dragon Orb.

In 2007, Lucky was given to players on Korean servers who participated in the Blizzard Worldwide Invitation.

Unhatched Mr. Chilly was given to players who merged their accounts early on with Battle.net

Onyxian Whelpling was given to players who logged on for WoW's 5th Anniversary. This whelpling emoted deep breaths, just like its namesake.

Spirit of Competition was mailed to players who won a battleground during the 2008 Summer Olympics.

During the special events leading up to Wrath, players could do special encounters in Karazhan, rewarding them with Vampiric Batling.

To offer an incentive for players to merge with Battle.net, Warbot Ignition Key was temporarily available if players did so.

Crimson Lasher is available from Ayla Shadowstorm after completing all quests for both the Druids of the Talon and the Shadow Wardens, as well as Filling the Moonwell requiring 125 Mark of the World Tree for .

If you missed chucking baby bears onto a trampoline, you’re in luck. Hyjal Bear Cub is available from Varlan Highbough for after completing Calling the Ancients.

Completing Vigilance on Wings 10 times will award you The 'Unbeatable?' Pterodactyl: BEATEN. and Chirping Box. Inside will be the other mini jouster you did not choose upon completing Egg Wave.

The Scorched Stone has made a return in 4.2. It is now obtainable in Zen'Vorka's Cache for 30 Mark of the World Tree, which can be bought after finishing all components of the Molten Front--so, something to keep you doing dailies.

Archaeology

Completing the rare dwarven archaeology solve Clockwork Gnome requiring 100 Dwarf Archaeology Fragment gives you a cute gnomish robot, similar to Jeeves.

Completing the rare tol’vir solve Crawling Claw requiring 150 Tol'vir Archaeology Fragment creates a creepy hand pet, that gives thumbs up and plays Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Fossilized Hatchling creates a little fossil pet, for 85 Fossil Archaeology Fragment.

Pterrordax Hatchling creates a baby pterrodax for 120 Fossil Archaeology Fragment.

Voodoo Figurine summons a tiny voodoo guardian, for 100 Troll Archaeology Fragment.

Engineering

De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion is crafted by Gnomish Engineers with 475 skill. This “de-weaponized” companion is actually an adorable bunny.

Lifelike Mechanical Toad is crafted by all engineers. The schematic is an extremely rare drop from level 50-60 elites.

The schematics for Lil' Smoky and Pet Bombling both drop in Gnomeregan.

Mechanical Squirrel Box is crafted by Engineers; the schematic is a world drop.

Personal World Destroyer is crafted by Goblin Engineers with 475 skill. It’s a miniature Fel-Reaver that terrorizes Hellfire Peninsula.

Engineers can still learn how to make Tranquil Mechanical Yeti in Winterspring, if they've completed Yetiphobia.

Enchanting

Enchanted Lantern/ Magic Lamp are faction-specific pets made by enchanters that can be sold over the neutral AH.

Fishing

Completing Crocolisks in the City from Old Man Barlo outside of Shattrath City means you’ll have a small chance in your Bag of Fishing Treasures to obtain one of four adorable BoP crocodiles: Chuck's Bucket, Toothy's Bucket, Snarly's Bucket, and Muckbreath's Bucket. You only need Fishing skill 1 to complete this quest.

Giant Sewer Rat is fished up in the Dalaran sewers, awarding the achievement I Smell A Giant Rat. Strangely, it's available from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries as well.

In fishing up Magical Crawdad Box from Highland Mixed pools, you have three chances to get Mr. Pinchy, needed for Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box.

Strand Crawler is a reward from Wrath and Cataclysm fishing dailies: it is found in Bag of Shiny Things and Bag of Fishing Treasures.

Mining

Elementium Geode can be looted by miners from any Obsidium, Elementium, and Pyrite nodes.

Jubling is obtained after completing Spawn of Jubjub at the Darkmoon Faire. You will need to obtain 2 Dark Iron Ale Mug from Blackrock Depths and throw them at Morja, an orc NPC working at the Faire. Her lost pet Jubjub will arrive and then she will give you the quest. Hold onto the resulting Unhatched Jubling Egg for a week and then Jubling will hatch!

If you’ve completed the major questchain in Northern Stranglethorn, you’ll be able to obtain Lashtail Hatchling in Zul’Gurub. Kidnapped by Bloodlord Mandokir, the raptor is overjoyed to see you upon killing Bloodlord. Complete An Old Friend to get your pet, who out of gratitude, takes your character’s name.

Mechanical Chicken is a reward for turning in An OOX of Your Own and completing all the beacon escort quests in the Hinterlands, Tanaris, and Stranglethorn.

Miniwing is a reward for completing Skywing in Terokkar Forest, where you escort Skywing through a camp of hostile Arkoaa.

Mr. Grubbs is a reward you get while questing and looting mobs in Eastern Plaguelands. After you find Fiona’s first two travelling companions, you will be able to acquire Fiona's Lucky Charm, allowing you to loot Hidden Stash which can contain this pet.

New to 4.1, this Panther Cub is found while doing Some Good Will Come, part of a quest series introducing Zul’Gurub.

Withers, a small treeform druid, is an Alliance reward for completing Remembrance of Auberdine in Darkshore. Horde players can purchase it from Apothecary Furrows.

Lawn of the Dead rewards you with Brazie's Sunflower Seeds—it’s your chance to play Plants vs Zombies in Hillsbrad Foothills!

Tiny Flamefly is a reward from SEVEN! YUP!/Not Fireflies, Flameflies in the Badlands. The Firefly is difficult to farm in Zangarmarsh; this pet is easy to obtain and has the same model.

Once limited to the Alliance, now both factions can get a Chicken Egg. Keep clucking at a chicken until it turns friendly. It will give you CLUCK!, requiring grain purchased from William Saldean or Farmer Saldean.

New to 4.2, the quests Blown Away/Blown Away for Alliance and Horde have you retrieve five Windswept Balloon for a child. As a reward, you get either Alliance Balloon or Horde Balloon.

Landro Longshot

These pets are relatively common: Landro's Lichling and Landro's Lil' XT. They look just like the pets available from the Blizzard Pet Shop.

Bananas summons an adorable monkey. This is a reward from the extremely rare loot card King Mukla in the Dark Portal series.

Dragon Kite summons a flying kite. This is a ward from the extremely rare loot card Kiting in the March of the Legion series.

Soul-Trader Beacon summons an ethereal vendor who absorbs souls the player kills, later selling a variety of fun things: Diluted Ethereum Essence, Ethereal Mutagen, Ethereal Liqueur, Ethereal Essence Sphere, Soul-Trader's Bindings, Soul-Trader's Boots, Soul-Trader's Gloves, Soul-Trader's Head Wrap, Soul-Trader's Pauldrons, and Soul-Trader's Waistband. This code is from the extremely rare loot card Ethereal Plunderer from the Hunt for Illidan series.

Hippogryph Hatchling is a reward from the Thunderhead Hippogryph card in the Heroes of Azeroth series.

Rocket Chicken has noteworthy animations—the chicken hovers on its rockets, fires up into the air, and can explode into a cloud of feathers. This pet is from the Robotic Homing Chicken card from the March of the Legion series.

Spectral Tiger Cub is one of the most sought-after pets. It’s from the Spectral Kitten card from the Scourgewar series. It loves to primly sit and matches Reins of the Swift Spectral Tiger.

Tuskarr Kite is a kite, obtainable from the Tuskarr Kite card in the Scourgewar series.

Purple Puffer is a fish in a bubble--it's from the Throne of the Tides series.

Sand Scarab is from the upcoming Tomb of the Forgotten expansion, due in May 2012.

Sixx, located in The Crystal Hall of the Exodar, sells three moths for : Blue Moth Egg, White Moth Egg, and Yellow Moth Egg. The yellow one is also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Donni Anthania, located outside Goldshire in Elwynn Forest, sells four cats for : Cat Carrier (Bombay), Cat Carrier (Cornish Rex), Cat Carrier (Orange Tabby), and Cat Carrier (Silver Tabby). All save the Orange Tabby have a small chance to be in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Shylenai in Darnassus sells two owls for : Great Horned Owl and Hawk Owl. The Great Horned Owl is also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Rabbit Crate (Snowshoe) is sold by Yarlyn Amberstill in Dun Morogh, as well as found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Cat Carrier (White Kitten) is sold by Lil Timmy, who occasionally patrols around the Canals of Stormwind. He only sells one pet at a time, so consider yourself lucky to snag it. This can also drop from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Horde

Xan'tish in Orgrimmar sells three snakes for : Black Kingsnake, Brown Snake, and Crimson Snake. These are also available from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Halpa in Thunder Bluff sells Prairie Dog Whistle for , also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Undercity Cockroach is obtainable to Horde from Jeremiah Payson in the Undercity and Dealer Rashaad in Netherstorm.

Jilanne, located in Fairbreeze Village in Eversong Woods, sells three dragonhawks: Golden Dragonhawk Hatchling, Red Dragonhawk Hatchling, and Silver Dragonhawk Hatchling. The Golden and Silver versions are also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Neutral

Breanni in Dalaran sells three unique pets: Albino Snake, Cat Carrier (Calico Cat), and Obsidian Hatchling, all for . The Calico Cat and Obsidian Hatching are also available from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Ancona Chicken is sold by "Plucky" Johnson in Thousand Needles for . In Cataclysm, he runs around in chicken-form by Mad Magus Tirth. If you right-click on him, he will quickly turn into a human again.

At the Stormspire in Netherstorm, Dealer Rashaad sells a variety of pets, including five unique ones: Blue Dragonhawk Hatchling for , Brown Rabbit Crate for , Mana Wyrmling for , Red Moth Egg for , and Cat Carrier (Siamese) for . He also sells Cat Carrier (Siamese), Cockroach, Crismon Snake, and Parrot Cage (Senegal) if you haven’t obtained these through other means.

Wood Frog Box and Tree Frog Box are sold by Flik for at the Darkmoon Faire.

Pengu is purchased from Sairuk and Tanaika of The Kalu'ak at Exalted.

Purchasing Mysterious Egg from Geen of the The Oracles turns into Cracked Egg after 3 days. It can contain the BoE pets Cobra Hatchling, White Tickbird Hatchling, Tickbird Hatchling, and Proto-Drake Whelp. The whelp is also found in the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.

Tiny Sporebat is available at Sporeggar Exalted, as well as via the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.
