Yep, this isn’t fun. I’ve done the event a dozen times a day on my characters before in previous years and probably would be doing it again this year if I didn’t have other real-life stuff going on.

Right now, if you want to maximize your chance of getting the mount, it’s in your best interest to repeat this event every day on as many characters as possible. That’s… mathematically correct, but not a great experience.

We hear this frustration and the good news is that we’re discussing this issue amongst the team and evaluating possible solutions for holiday events in general. The bad news is that even if we do end up making changes, they wouldn’t be in time for this year’s Love Is In the Air holiday event.

It never has been fun to farm a rare that only spawns every 8 hours or so that shares a spawn with another rare that doesn't drop the mount and the mount has a teeny tiny chance at dropping. So far, this year alone, I've seen it on 3 of my plate wearers, 4 leather wearers, and 2 mail wearers but none of my 4 cloth wearers. Really, I LOVE to collect things. I have mounts with low drop rate, like Huolon, or mounts that require patience and a mix of luck, like the Timelost or the Voidtalon. So I really don't care to know that there are things with less than 100%, 50%, 10% droprate - or with a respawn time. ...But 0.03%? Just like the Sha of Anger... let's be quite frankly. Seriously. There is absolutely zero justification for this mount being this ridiculously impossible to obtain. Even the infamous MoP World Boss mounts, which are each on a weekly lockout and have obscenely low droprates, make this thing seem common by comparison.

If my math is right (someone fact check me) that is 100 kills per percent (100 kills = 1%, 200 kills = 2%) so to get to 100% you'd have to do 10,000 attempts.
If you have 50 characters and the event lasts 15 days then that's 50*15 = 750 or 7.5% BLP increase per event.
100% / 7.5% = 13.3 years.

Still #$%^ing insane but each attempt makes your next attempt more likely to get it

First off, why wouldn't there be any changes to something this abysmal in 14 years? Also, this is something that can be hotfixed, it's a matter of changing a number or moving a decimal. I have very strong feelings about drop rates. I do not think any rare mount should be more than 1/100 drop chance. I do not think that there should ever be multiple layers of RNG on mounts or any other collectibles. If you want to have a long or rare spawn no more than 1/10. Occasional spawn like on Argus? No more than 1/20. If there is a "short" respawn timer like 15min just make it only 1 minute. I'm looking specifically at the world bosses here. There's nothing fun about standing around waiting for something that you just killed to do it again on an alt. I have no problem running ICC, Ulduar, Dragon Soul etc etc. dozens or hundreds of times. But make me drag my alt out somewhere and wait an arbitrary amount of time on a miniscule drop chance? No thanks.

For holiday mounts in particular I have all of them except for X-45 Heartbreaker and have had them for many years. I think they should be 1/10 or 1/ the number of days the event runs with BLP. So by the last day of the event it's guaranteed if they ran it every day. Make it work across characters also so for a 2 week event if you run 14 characters in one day and are exceptionally unlucky you'll still get it. There's no reason why the drops are the way they are. They could also do things like you can spend currency on bonus rolls or items that would increase your BLP so it has overlap with the rest of the event. If they still want it to be uncommon just make it 1/20 with no BLP.

But whatever this mess is now with people running dozens of characters every day and not getting the Halloween mount is shameful. I'm running 35 characters per day for the X-45 Heartbreaker and not expecting to actually get it. But that's truly absurd. I'd be very very happy to see ALL mounts, especially the ones in BFA that are 1/200 or 1/400 along with rare spawn timers in the overworld and in certain cases (Soundless) multiple spawn points. Or limited spawn times from the alternating invasions from 8.3. It's not fun and it's not cool. If they want to make real rare mounts make them like TLPD or other things where its a rare spawn at multiple points for a limited time but it's 100% drop chance. So the hard part isn't the RNG drop it's finding the NPC and then you get the mount.

I am very glad to hear Blizz is considering changes here. I hope they are some pretty sweeping changes. Remember that Rivendare's Deathcharger was originally 1/5000 and that was improved over time because it was completely absurd.
