I hope to balance retail and Classic. My only hope for retail is that stuff won't get too expensive...I am usually broke as it is.
I don't really see any point in gold making in Classic, because we won't be able to buy tokens.
To buy your Mount at 40 and epic at 60 to train new class skills etc and buy bigger bag slots.
I'm already burnt out on Classic.
I sure hope that using retail gold for anything on classic is somehow forbidden/prevented. I want a new economy there.
I'm curious why being a hunter would matter when it comes to: "Get yourself a 60 Hunter with 300 skinning and equip it with a Finkle's Skinner or Zulian Slicer. Run UBRS. Be the first to skin The Beast. Rinse. Repeat."
I figured something like that. But than the "Be the first to skin The Beast." part becomes confusing as it sounds like you're in a group.
Honestly, I made a lot of gold selling fish for cooking mats. People seem to be really lazy about leveling cooking and will pay top gold for fish. On a different note, I'm disappointed to hear I won't be able to run both Classic and the Retail client at the same time. Seems counterproductive to force your community to choose one or the other.
Economy is a hard topic. For one I wouldn't release wow token for classic, you can farm it, get it in BFA but in classic. BUT this is activision/blizzard and they want $$$. So there is a chance it will be available, but it creates a huge problem: it should sell fo 500g or 120k? What would be acceptable more importantly farmable amount of gold? 2. problem, anyone who buys let say 3 token will have big adventage over to others. But whoever have that gold will kill the game for himself since there is nothing to farm if you can buy everything. Bottom line is I would vote for no token at all.Addons. We are spoiled today, I'm an addon horder.... have like 100 of them. There is always addon for something. Elvui / DBM is the minimum right? Now imagine to run instances without them. You actually have to learn mechanics and only move when GTFO screams at you. TSM for goblins... how many of us would post 500 items/day without that addon? Since Classic will have much less variaty of materials I wouldn't cry for a bit if the API will be closed for a while. Classic was not easy. I get hooked on wowcrack at end of TBC, but still had to walk to lvl 40 as I remember. Took me 4 weeks to get out from Dun Morogh and was scraed to discover Loch Modam on my gnome mage. Every fight was like: kill 1 mob, drink mana restore milk, next mob. It wasn't like "let me pull 3-4" if more than 2 was pulled it was the time to blink and run for my life. LVL 5 trolls in troll cave was a death trap for a long time. Or the yeti up on the hill... Anyway back to subject it was a real challange, had no addons as I didn't know them and enjoyed. Spliting economy? Imao classic fewer will die quick. BUT here is what I think: it will have his place in our life. There is a gray time zone between expansions when already all patches released but new xpack still 6 months away. In this period of time I usually started tanking LFR or tasted mythic tanking as I'm a solo player and not in a guild. Tasted normal raid on my healer. Run xmog runs and was selling them. This time gold making not that easy so the market is smaller. Sometimes I just unsubbed for that time and was playing on my retro systems (Commodore 64 / Amiga 1200). Always returned to new xpack so I expect the same, but this time I might will spend time on classic as it has long forgotten content and for a few months I can enjoy it. No LFG and I'm happy about it. When I had my first maxed healer (holy priest) in WOTLK people knew my name and asked for heal dungeons. Rarely turned them down, but I kept that character for that solo reason: dungeon healing. If I was up to something else I played on my DK or Mage. I miss that time. It felt good when good guys, great tanks were looking for me or I did the same and asked them if they planing to run Heroic dungons for the token. If I'll play classic I know today already: I'll choose healer and tank. Economy wise like you guys said: to be a goblin in classic is a totally different beast. I might craft this and that but for only to have gold for repair. Everything costed money, leveling up, skills... god forbid to play with hunter.... :D that was a great class but a gold sink for the ammo + mana potions...I read somewhere Blizz might introduce TBC and WOTLK servers later if this classic experience turns out good. Well in that case I would say the best future could be a mixed servers: you login and you can choose which era you want to play at the login screen in the same launcher, your character would have independent level on each server, bags, items so system would remember.Last world: I'm sure many of us will jump on it and play it until next xpack comes out.
Let's face it: most of the "Vocal Vanilla Advocates" (VVAs) never experienced anything near it. Even I joined in late BC, so when I see a crowd of VVAs crowing about how great it will be, and I take into account that most of them dropped out of raiding over the past year or two citing how dreadfully grindy the game is with the HORRIBLE WORLD QUEST GRIND, GOLD GRIND, RAID GRIND, M+ GRIND etc., all I can do is laugh emptily. If, as stated in the column, it won't be possible to roll on a Vanilla realm with a standard sub, I am going to IGNORE the existance of Vanilla, Classic, or whatever the name is. I remember that even with boosts from friends and at end BC/early WotLK it still took half a year to get to cap, and I'm not really in the mood to revisit the experience if I need to pay extra for that.Economy-wise... I don't expect much. Live is loosing players fast, and I don't expect that soft reset WHILE Vanilla/Classic is available, is going to change much. Particularly that we get what is essentially new gearing system, without the hype of the new expansion. Bad move, Blizzard. If anything, some players who head to Classic for "greener pastures" from live, may only end up leaving for good.I think there's also a question on how "open" will the Classic environment be. Will anyone even want to swap wealth there for Live gold? Will token be there? To be honest, I think the biggest earners will actually be big communities. Groups of friends, organised well enough to take on the game's challenges... back in those days, skill needs were substantially lower, and gear was literally everything. To get it, you either had to grind for days (be it drops or crafts) or raid... everything was much, much easier in a good guild. And this is what will be economically exploitable: boosts will be the hottest thing in Vanilla/Classic.To be honest, I'd hope that token still works there, since otherwise it's gonna be bots making level 1 corpse banner ads all over again, very soon. And if I were to set up shop there... I'd be back to my first wow business: placing alts at or touring far off/obscure vendors, and putting all those sweet ability tomes, profession books, recipes and the like on the auction house. Many were willing to pay me 1-2g for a recipe worth 20s... and a 2-hour run to a vendor sitting in the boonies in Desolace. I was marketing to both factions, too, since I could place auctions at Booty Bay or in Tanaris.
I honestly hadn’t considered the effect Classic’s launch on BfA: the economy, the activity, etc. I mean it really depends on who spends the most time playing Classic. Will it be people mostly exploring the old game for the novelty, on a casual basis, or will it be old players who have given up on the current game but have wanted to return to Classic for a while now? Or will a moderate number (10-15%) of the player base more or less switch to Classic and stay there, at least until 9.0 is on the horizon? The former 2 options won’t have much impact beyond the first few weeks of Classic. But the last one will mean a big shift. Mostly I think the result will be a smaller buyer base. I get the feeling that gold makers won’t want to focus on Classic much, both because of the difficulty and also because you can’t buy Tokens in Classic. I can see them coming in eventually, but not until the tail end of the Classic lifecycle when there’s little else to spend gold on.
I was never a good goblin but in going to be playing Classic and trying my hand at getting comfortable. It'll take a long time, but then, the economy is going to take a while to ramp up.As the last point noted, injecting gold (silver, copper) into the economy is going to be very slow. I knew someone who had over 5k gold going into TBC, but that's the exception and that was two years into the game.Expect people who sell twink items to be disappointed at how long it will actually take to build the economy to the point that those items will sell for much profit - because no one is going to have the gold to pay exorbitant prices until there is more moola in Classic Azeroth.
