Highlights

The underwater boss in Azshara's Eternal Palace poses unique challenges that Blizzard is excited to fulfill. They've experimented with using underwater areas to dramatic effect earlier in Battle for Azeroth, in the Horde War Campaign when the player tries to find Derek's body. Blizzard is always trying to push the limit to do different things, and fighting underwater fits into the fantasy of the naga.

The Alliance and Horde have different stories in Battle for Azeroth. The Horde gets special quests and more story in Uldir, including Spirits Be With You. However, the Alliance may have more story and context for the Crucible of Storms Raid, taking place under Stormsong Valley, as well as the Gnomish door leading to Mechagon as well.

More Allied Races may be coming in future patches. Blizzard likes them to feel relevant to the ongoing storyline, for example if we have been helping a certain race in a patch. No specifics to announce yet though.

Blizzard admits they could have done more to mitigate the extreme class stacking on Zul with subtlety rogues. It's fine if some classes have particular strengths, but they could have mitigated their extreme benefits by perhaps putting damage shields on the adds in Mythic difficulty. They are planning on doing that with a similar fight in Battle of Dazar'alor, High Tinker Mekkatorque, which features robot adds.

Blizzard acknowledges it's awesome the community is so into the Mythic race, but no changes to impact the race are planned in Tides of Vengeance. They also discussed the Warlock class stacking on G'huun.

After the Burning of Teldrassil, and the feedback that some Horde players felt bad about agreeing to burn the tree, Blizzard is trying to experiment more with the idea of player choice. They have nothing further to announce yet besides the choice presented for the Saurfang questline in the Patch 8.1 PTR, but there could be "cool opportunities" for players.

I can't wait to see what they are going to do with the underwater boss, it's either going to be really nice or going to be really bad, only time will tell.

Comment by Ironekk

Pretty sure second raid gonna be mainly linked with the Alliance, and this time the Horde will be confused about what's going on.

Comment by Barhah

I had some Knights of the Old hoRde sith run guilt about the tree, but not enough to tell Blizzard about it.

Comment by BorkyB

I'm glad they are at least aware of the class stacking problems.

I dunno, last time we had a Gnome-based dungeon, we would get stuck dealing with Alarm-o-bots and long twisting corridors for hours on end (back before it got streamlined).

All I'm saying is, if I see a little siren with legs walking around, I'll probably need some therapy.

Comment by etheldald

i just hope that they add player choices also to the alliance :')

Yep nerf the warlock gateway again. Lets see. Last time they nerfed gateway it was the range from 70yd to 40yd. I expect 40-10yd and a longer debuff to use gateway again!

Comment by 1486321

Oh probably just remove it.

Comment by fata13xception

i just hope that they add player choices also to the alliance :')

They did, though, right? If we want High Elves, we have the choice to go Horde :)

Comment by Songoo

Great interview but still got more questions than answers -_-

Comment by azulean

High elf allied race...one can dream.

Comment by Diguez

Yep I actually felt bad for the burning of teldrassil

Comment by Ponysha

That's interesting

Comment by Bashcutter

Nice to see some other communities getting some spot light

Comment by Lyonidus

Wow what a lie about the class stacking issue and how certain specs have strengths and weaknesses. Some specs have major weaknesses while some others have none, they are basically good at everything (like Havoc Demon Hunter for instance), and so far in ptr nothing is changed.

Why do rogues have to be so crucial in every raid, you would think they would notice the same class always getting stacked and at least try to fix the issue.
In Uldir it's not only Zul and Rogues it's also Mythrax and G'huun with Aff Locks and how ranged dps is so much better than melee on the last 2 fights, so much so that bringing more than 5 melee on them is not considered a good idea at all.

To make things worse they even said that there is a boss that almost has a similar mechanic in Battle of Dazar'alor meaning it's gonna be Rogues who are gonna get brought again.

So i have a question, when are some other specs gonna shine? When are specs with major weaknesses gonna get their spot in the sun? Why is balance so bad right now?
It just feels like they're not doing anything to fix the major issues BfA is riddled with and just keep shoving things like Azerite gear down our throats.

Cripple gnomes are a bad idea and a terrible race to implement that no one wanted. There I said it. >_>

Comment by Balenty

I thought that finding Derek's body in the Horde war campaign was a really cool part, and it makes me curious about the future of underwater encounters in this upcoming zone.
