Because why support things we use/enjoy?
I feel for you guys, soldier on and you have my support. By the way for other non subs here, the sub for this site is ridiculously cheap, and after sub...... no ads.To be fair, to the site staff, they do an enormous amount of work with little to no praise.Keep it up guys
Thanks for the heads up! I myself have you on my bookmarks bar so I never use a search engine to find things from wowhead but I do occasionally look for things wow related and there's real chance a woweden result would come up. As a side note, subbing to you guys was the best $10 I've ever spent. Thanks for all your hard work!
I have to admit this is the first time I hear about this. I don't usually click links just because the title seems to be what I am looking for. I tend to check the link, too. If it is unfamiliar, because I know the site I want to land on, I won't click it.Good luck with resolving this issue. Seems to be a real pain.
I was curious so typed in calamity's edge into my search browser. 1st thing came up was wowhead and no mention of the other site. But i use Duckduckgo as my search engine. Just preference not saying anyone should or shouldn't use it. But then checked and yes. google search sent me somewhere bad.
You can do +wowhead or if you want it to be easier you can just do -woweden too.
Seriously who googles wow items and stuff? Wowhead is on my toolbar I click and search. lol We're supposed to be geeks and nerds and you people do this? Sad really NOOBS get your *&%$ toghether!
Its just silly those webistes exist but on the other hand must feel kinda proud they doOn the other hand i have no idea why people if they look for wowhead data search it first on any search engine. Just make your homepage wowhead.com ;) I did :p
For firefox you can add keywords to wowhead's search. Right click the search bar on wowhead.com and click "Add Keyword". After that you can write, for example as I've set up my keyword, "wowhead calamity's edge" to go straight to the same page as if you searched for calamity's edge right on the page.
Might want to emphasize that this is about Google search results earlier and more prominently, the title sounds like they hijacked even your internal search.
So how come they have better Search engine optimization than Wowhead?
Wow, sorry guys, that really sucks. If you're using chrome, go to: chrome://settings/searchEnginesThen you can just edit the wowhead link to "wh" and type in your chrome address bar (or hit ctrl+l) and type "wh rhok'delar" or whatever to search directly. Saves some time :)
Pin wowhead main page to your browser. End.
Thanks for warning us.
Never had a problem searching via google, tends to be faster for me then loading up the site and actually trying to searching on here. Only problems I've ever had is the tab crashing when searching, and if I have multiple wowhead tabs open, all of them will crash.
ok good that was cleared up. RemovedActually inquiring about a major flaw on the website that leads to people using outside searches is very much on topic.Just because you refuse to address the ad reloading issue, doesn't mean its not on topic, but feel free to remove this as well.Oh that's right, because you need a way to push your "premium" subscription
I'm running a few scans right now that can give us some actually useful information, but as for the basic crap every kid that knows HTML does...woweden.com (23.244.48.35) Andrew JacksonWoweden Network, LLC.2287 Lunetta StreetTampa, FL 336021 (941) 233-9689He didn't opt for private registrar; something you should probably do before you want to hack a major website.-I thought it was a fake name at first; it's not, or if it is it's a fake name that's associated with those other fake details in many other places; it's possible.I live 20-30 minutes outside Tampa. I'm in Tampa all the time. I'd offer to swing by, but looks like the address is fake. The name Andrew Jackson is affiliated with that address in multiple places, although google maps can't find that street. My scans are almost done; I forgot my main server's root password, derp, so I was delayed a bit. Will update when I have more. The server is definitely running; he's just blocking access to the main domain. I'll try with a googlebot (edit: lolno) referral agent and see if he's allowing crawlers in.http://23.244.48.35:2083 -- server is up and running; his cpanel login.port 80 (standard HTTP) is blocked right now, but port 443 (https / SSL) is throwing a default "set up your ^&*!" cpanel page. It won't actually work using https; no cert.http://23.244.48.35:443 -- http://23.244.48.35:443/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgiScans starting now.Edit: Been doing random digging while I wait. I can't help thinking that the street name, "Lunetta", is somhow relevant... I mean it's just NOT a street and it doesn't seem like a word you'd make up off the top of you head; even if he had to think of a real street name he got it from a word/name he already knew. Here's the only toon I can find:http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/Borean-Tundra/Lunetta/advancedThere are others, but all random low levels on various servers; pretty standard actually, most people have their main account on their main server and various alts with the same name on others. I'm not at all saying this dude is related, don't go whispering him... I'm saying that it's a hell of a coincidence and until my server decides to pick up the pace I'd give it a... 25% chance?
So what you're saying is that Wowhead has been compromised, right?Where would the bot hijack things from? You guys need to be way more transparent about this, missing essential info can be really bad for your users.
Huh, didn't know this was a thing. I was using the searchbar's lucky search thing that would automatically redirect me to a wowhead site when i search "mark of honor wowhead". but i went ahead and searched for calamitys edge and blocked woweden.
