Renown Changes in 9.2.5 - Renown Catch-Up To 60, More Renown Sources

Broker Mark of Distinction

Greetings!

We do feel it is important that players returning to the game after a lengthy break, or players that switch to a new character, are able to participate in relevant activities in a reasonable amount of time. This did become more challenging as the expansion progressed so The Broker Mark of Distinction was introduced to jump players to Renown 40. This provided a catch-up for Renown without supplementing a character’s progression, similar to gear rewards from quests in new zones.

As we continued to monitor discussions, we’ve seen how one of the most important steps to reach is Renown 60 as that is when all traits are unlocked for all three Soulbinds (from there it is mainly the enhancements that are unlocked). We feel that being able to more easily reach that level of Renown will create a balance between contributing to the most current content and having room for growth on an individual character. Additionally, we want the path to Renown 80 to have a bit more clarity, especially for characters that have already completed the Covenant campaign questlines.

To help achieve this, we plan to make the following changes in 9.2.5:

The Broker Mark of Distinction will increase the Renown of your currently active Covenant to 60, up from 40
Renown catch-up is accelerated through Renown 60, up from 48
These activities will now have a 100% chance to reward 1 Renown upon completion:
Mythic and Mythic+ dungeons
Torghast Layers 9-16
Defeating a Shadowlands raid boss encounter
Winning a Rated Battleground

PPL leave wow for time sink &*!@Just do it now, why wait for 9.2.5....Comment by ToranchAt this point I don't understand why it wouldn't just skip right to 80. To make it earned out a little more, check if the account has 80 on all 4 covenants (many of us do). And if that's the case, skip to 80 rather than just 60.

That said, 60 at least unlocks everything of any real importance. I started the ZM campaign on another alt who was renown 40 after using the Broker Mark of Distinction.
Even with skipping straight to when you unlock Pocopoc, she got a total of 36 additional renown through just story quests. Every quest that required combat or proximity to hostile mobs gave renown as a reward if it was not giving gear.
Since the catch up item is going to boost characters straight to renown 60, I made a note that in the future you will be able to get to renown 80 just after the quest Oppress and Destroy.
I will replay the initial skippable chapters in Zereth Mortis to see if they give any renown as well and update this with future data.

This is only really applicable for alts that are already leveled and sitting at renown 40. Using the Broker Mark of Distinction on a level 50 alt and leveling them through threads of fate can leave you with a level 60 alt with about 68 renown in their chosen covenant, given you complete all of the bonus objectives, fill-the-bar meta-quests, and the initial sanctum quests setting up soulbinds once level 60 is reached. When the catchup item increases renown to 60, it will be entirely possible to get to 80 in one covenant while still leveling.Comment by NetspookWhy it is not instantly 80?
