A full on 1tb SSD comes at a cost of around $100, these all come with a program that you can use to take everything from your old HDD and clone it onto the new SSD, even windows. Just connect the SSD, start up the program, hit Clone and let it go. In about 10 minutes it will be done. Everything that is 'your computer' is now on the SSD and you can disconnect the HDD and have a spiffy paperweight, break it open for a really powerful magnet, or wipe it clean and use it for mass media storage. Also, an M2 SSD will practically half the load time again, but you'll need to be absolutely certain your motherboard has a slot for one, because these are not connected via a cord.
Sure the speed is great on ssds.. but you also get shock resistance for laptops.. and they don't make noise ever. They also use trim instead of defrag. Quicker and more efficient.
My first SSD I bought for Windows Vista in 2007 is still working. In the meantime I put it into an USB case and use it as fat USB drive.SSDs are much faster than ordinary USB drives, especially on writing. Very nice to do backups.
I like how that 'comparison' infographic only focuses on aspects in which the SSD is better. Don't get me wrong, SSDs are the DVD to HDD's VCR, but that's not to say that HDDs offer no advantage at all over SSDs. The infographic is kinda biased or misleading, if you ask me.
This all depends on how recent your wow install was. Suboptimal data and index files can make any storage retrieval take a while.
After reading this news. I just was curious and go test my SSD discs. I compared loading times on my SSD and NvME SSD. I'm using a lot of addons included ElvUI and ShadowLights for ElVUi. God I'd go nuts waiting that long. Zoning to Dalaran + running to Argus portal, clicking it, zoning to Vindicaar 20.76 seconds. Samsung 960 Evo Pro
in other news. Water is wet.sure its better to play on a SSD. Everything is better on a SSD.
I ended up having to get an SSD shortly after 8.2 came out. I could deal with the Dalaran load screen back in Legion, it wasn't too bad. But something they did in 8.2 made load screens a nightmare. Not only that, but after the load screen ended it would take up to a minute for me to even be able to move. While I could move my character (according to the map), the camera would not move along with it and nothing but terrain was loaded. Now, every load screen is a few seconds at most - and in Classic they are merely a flash and basically don't exist. I wish I got an SSD years ago honestly.
People are complaining about an extra 49 SECONDS? It takes between 10-30 minutes for WoW's launcher to pop up for me when just starting my computer. Loading screens take 5-10 minutes. I have known no differently, and perhaps for this I just have endless patience, but I for one will be just fine.
Many addone slowdown the load time too, even on a nvme m.2 .
I tried uprgrading my old HDD for an SSD and it went horribly wrong now my PC is in for repair, people who know computers on WoW will basically speak french to you when asking for advice on how to do it, my advice if you’re upgrading and are not tech savvy take it to an expert, it won’t cost much and will save you a whole bunch of hassle.
