Nintendo of America Distressed and Disturbed by Developments at Activision Blizzard
2021/11/22 at 5:59 PM
In a report
shared by our sister site Fanbyte
, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser sent an email to all hands, calling the developments at Activision Blizzard "distressing and disturbing," in addition to "counter to my values, as well as Nintendo's beliefs, values, and policies."
“Along with all of you, I’ve been following the latest developments with Activision Blizzard and the ongoing reports of sexual harassment and toxicity at the company,” Bowser begins. “I find these accounts distressing and disturbing, They run counter to my values as well as Nintendo’s beliefs, values and policies.”
Bowser goes on in the letter to explain that Nintendo is committed to having an open and inclusive workplace where all are welcome. He remarks that the company holds itself to this standard and expects the same from the industry and their partners. Though without detail, Bowser also says that representatives at Nintendo have been “in contact with Activision, have taken action and are assessing others.”
With this release, Nintendo now joins both
Xbox and PlayStation
in their condemnation of the company and the
handling of events by CEO Bobby Kotick
. All three are also important partners of Activision, supporting games such as Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, and Tony Hawk series. In the email, Bowser is also quoted as saying that Nintendo would be working with the
Entertainment Software Association
(ESA) to strengthen stances on harassment and abuse in the workplace, and that the ESA must hold its members to the highest standard. Given that Activision Blizzard is also a member of the association, we expect to hear more about this in the coming weeks.
