New Site Feature: 3D Modelviewer Redone and Pandaren Added!

a brand new Flash 3D model viewer

Flash Modelviewer Instead of JavaMake sure you have updated to the latest version of Flash; if your version is outdated, it may not load properly!

Debugging and support is a lot easier this way as we only have to focus on one platform

More people use and prefer Flash so it made sense to use it over Java

Significantly faster load timesImproved particle effects and detailsA new race option: Pandaren!

Pandaren are very much still in beta, so some emotes and armor may not work properly (helmets do not work on them right now, for example). They still look awesome, though!

You guys are doign a really great job at WoWhead

Looking great, love that they move now. But does it normally take that long for the races to load? Tried to look at the transmog sets and it was taking several minutes to load, whereas before it would be a couple seconds.

YES! So happy for this update!

And the Java version? Was it updated also?

And the Java version? Was it updated also?

It was removed--it's easier to focus on one version, and Flash is infinitely more accessible/stable. Java constantly caused problems, both user error and ours. The Flash version now looks like the Java version in terms of particle effects :)

Probably because the cache was cleared, there's a lot of stuff to DL at first use. Still, I didn't have any lag. What's your connection?(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##

Java got removed. It is just a flash viewer now.

Edit: Beat by 32 seconds.

Hmmm, Java version still not working on a Mac...
Too bad, I'm not installing Adobe's crapware anymore.

The flash player is much better than it used to be, on par (at the least) with the old Java player.

I did notice that the character models took quite a while to load, but only the first time. I'm guessing after we've viewed them once, they'll load much more quickly from then on.

The Female Pandaren don't have their undergarments on yet-- will that update soon? The in-game models obtained them a week ago, I think.

The Male Pandaren hairstyle is one that's not available in-game (unless I missed it) but I like it!

Nice work, Alayton!

Edit: Weapon models tend to load edge-on to the camera, which could be confusing until the user figures out what they're looking at. Any way to get them to load viewing them from the side?

Edit 2: Will we be able to set Pandaren as the default model soon, on our Settings page?

Oh. So what's the plan for us users that get on wowhead on iOS devices?

My connection speed is at 54.0 Mbps. The first one was slow but I looked at another and it was faster. I had a feeling it was something like that, after it loads a few times it'll get faster.

The character models are substantially larger than they used to be for the Flash viewer, because they now include all of the animation data. They get cached though, so subsequent loads are nearly instant.

Viewing weapons from the side will happen, and female Pandaren will get their undergarments.. sometime soon. (sorry Noxy)

Prepare the Pandamonium!

Comment by Zarac

I love the new viewer the same way I love the Pandaren animations, the facial expressions are awesome.

I'm loving it too! I was using the Java player for the animations, but the Flash player is actually a lot quicker, and great quality too. Again, thanks Alayton!

Comment by barbasol

Awesome! Took me a while to figure out to zoom with A/Z since the mousewheel no longer works. Also after picking an animation, took me a while to find "stand" to get it back to normal. You may want to put Stand at the top of the list so it's easy to get back to "normal".

Great work! This is a big improvement, for me at least. I always had trouble with Java; sometimes it miraculously worked, but more often than not the screen went blank and the pop-up window just froze up. I never found out what caused it, so I was stuck using Flash. Which wasn't a big problem, mind you, it's just nice that I can finally make use of the full capabilities of the Modelviewer.

Comment by thebdc

Well done! But still no way to resize the popup? :(

You can double click on it to make it full screen. Note that we don't support this functionality (but it works for many items and is useful).

Hm. I was expecting Female Troll to spontaneously dance. I think I've been on the beta too long.

Edit: They fixed it lol. Hm. Anyways, new model viewing is nice. I like Flash bettar.
