User Interface and Accessibility

The “PvP talent is available” helptip will now only appear in War Mode and PvP instances.
Several emotes have been adjusted:

Drool, cough, burp, fart, whistle, spit, and moon no longer change when used while targeting a player.
Pounce and groan have been adjusted when used while targeting a player.
4 new emotes have been added – Huzzah, magnificent, impressed, and wince.
Kick, stink, shake, and moan have been removed.

Developers’ note: Some of these emotes seem to have harmless intentions at a glance, but when used while targeting another player, their intentions can turn unexpectedly suggestive or intrusive. We’ve made adjustments to these emotes with negative connotations towards another player, while also adding a few new ones.

From my understanding, they didn't remove them but they'll just say the same thing regardless of if you're targeting another play or not.
So still, "You burp," and, "you fart," just not in anyone's face or against anybody.(##RESPBREAK##)258##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

Comment by pghcrew

Not a whole lot of significant updates lately, must be closing in on release.

Comment by TheRedRogue

That's how they're supposed to work in this build, but it seems from just going on there and trying them that if you target anything/anyone (other than yourself or nothing, of course), the emotes don't work at all. I think they boogered something up in that part.(##RESPBREAK##)258##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

Comment by Leafstagger

Which is equal to removing them. It's like how /spit is still in the game.(##RESPBREAK##)258##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

There's something incredibly demeaning and infantilzing about disallowing players from expressing the kinds of emotions they want, just because they can be perceived as negative or suggestive.

In the real world these kinds of behaviors could be moderated, while nothing is moderated in WoW as customer support is basically non-existent. (Hell, there's not even an option to report a player for harassment in the game, so, it is what it is.)

Comment by Samonky

negativity is not allowed on the classroom kids!
bad things cant happen if we only have good thoughts! ^u^

come on, in a game about war and conflict...

looks like next patch we will all be friends grabbing our hands and weaving friendship bracelets while we eat fruit and live the healthy life.

this is awful for the roleplay too, luckily we still have the /e. but damn, next thing coming up will be somethign like club penguin restricted chat

Comment by NeronnEvilknight

The change is OK.
Many of those emotes were spammed to just be intrusive or rude to people, or even sexual innuendos.

The "but when used while targeting another player, their intentions can turn unexpectedly suggestive or intrusive" part is sadly true, not even once I have seen them for RP or joke, just someone who think himself to be funny in dungeon to say he fart to the face of someone, and so that he didn't insulted, just "used an emote".

The fact you could also shake the rear of someone is disturbing.

So, thanks Blizzard, I appreciate the change. The wince seem it could be used for great comedic effect, for wipe by example or a death mechanic.

Comment by Laheree

I’m just curious how I’m going to be able to be rude to Queen Azshara.

Comment by GreenWithEnvy

This isn't club penguin. Why are they bothering default emote text when people write much worse things every day in their game? What a waste of effort.

Comment by Dayon

It's weird to me that they're adding /pounce

Is /pouncing on someone who doesn't want to be /pounced on any more or less offensive than being whistled or spat at? This makes no sense.

Comment by Pathstrider

Actually pathetic. What's next, no more saying anything, can only use pre written (by Blizz) sentences?

We’ve made adjustments to these emotes with negative connotations towards another player, while also adding a few new ones.

So they want to make the game save by removing the ability to harass a person but also removing the ability to suggestive to someone with consent with these emotes?
If you want to remove the ability do something wrong with emotes in game you have to remove them all together.

Comment by TheWiseDwarf

This is getting a bit ridiculous, and I'm expecting more drastic changes to come... If Blizzard feels like they need to adres things like the "suggestive" paintings and now those "suggestive" emotes, I'm pretty sure they are going to change the models of "suggestive" armor pieces of playable characters in the game as well. I think the only reason they haven't yet, is because it takes more time to do so. Wouldn't surprise me if "underwear" on playable characters is also going to get drastically changed to something more bodycovering... Let's be real, why wouldn't they at this point?

Also RIP Goldshire

Comment by Fatalion

It amazes me how many people are acting like there not being an easy shortcut prevents them from posting the statement at all. If you're that desperate to spit at somebody, you can type "/e spits at %target" like the adult you're so eager to prove you are. I'm personally a little sad to lose 'moon' just because I liked aiming that at particularly annoying raid bosses, but it's not like it has any real impact on my gameplay. If it did, I'd be pretty worried about myself.

I'll be happier if they just let us talk to one another cross-faction by default and step up their game on reading/reacting to harassment reports, personally.

Comment by KidGonzy

"Fixing" your game isn't going to correct your real life mistakes, Blizzard.

Literally nobody cares about what "suggestive or intrusive" hints that these removed emotes have, and even if people did, why would they listen to a company with as much heat and dirty laundry as you? (The only people who do care are trolls, the once in a while streamer that people snipe in game and obstruct their path or the hyper sensitive person that can't get out of bed in the morning without being offended by the tiniest things.)

All complaints aside, this change is mind numbingly pointless and is only making the development of 9.1.5 ever so slower.

Then again...that does make me curious for what they will "change" next...

Comment by evilmark443

As long as /rude doesn't get removed I'm fine. I honestly didn't realize all of those options were in the game, several of them would be downright creepy coming from a stranger.

Comment by Chaxton

Changing my emote macro to @target /point /fart /cough /burp /wink. Needlessly complicating fun, sheesh.

Comment by Artio

Y'all know you still can do
/me <whatever you want>s you.
right?
Make macro's! Use %target! Be creative!
(Also be nice.)

Comment by Daibakuha

Ultimately while this is a small change, I feel like it's probably better for the health of the game that these changes get made. Trying to stop toxicity in game starts with removing the vectors toxic people have of attacking others. Part of that is through emotes.

Also toxic people have no one else to blame for this. A bunch of them were %^&*talking when /spit was removed that they'd use other emotes like /fart instead, well now you can't, grats buddy.

Comment by SirWeltschmerz

Welp, you just pissed off the other half of the remnants of your player base. The fact they are even removing anything else beyond /whistle is astounding.
