Well then, still going to pvp for gear till then I guess.
So lets say i have 5 items that are bis cause my RNG hit the jackpot (i dont but lets imagine it) i will have to pray i will get those items again! great design ! no no awesome !
I bet it will take at least a week, probably more to even get enough valor currency to upgrade one single item, so why restrict items obtained before 9.0.5 from being upgradeable?
One thing we don’t know is if this resets each season right? Like, do you need to clear all 8 at +5/+10/+15 each season to be able to do upgrades? Or is it a one time lock that carriers over to the higher ilevel gear in the new season? I bet it resets each season..
Mythic+ participation is going to nosedive until the patch is out because of this.
Its mind boggling that people didnt expect this to be the case
Oof, two steps forward, one step back. It's still a positive, but it's a bit of a shame.
Between the asinine conditions required to upgrade items with Valor and the malignant opportunism to further time gate players, it was inevitable Blizzard would attempt this route. The only surprise at this point was how early they announced it instead of waiting until the 11th hour to spring it on players eagerly awaiting some razor-thin silver lining to all their grinding misery. The PvE loot system is already atrocious on a good day, all this change will do is add more layers of difficulty in not only obtaining desired items but the ability to upgrade them to worthwhile levels, which will also be time gated as Blizzard has stated Valor points will make their return along with their weekly cap. Considering how the old Valor points were hard capped, unlike the current Conquest system which increases weekly, and given the utter indifference Blizzard has shown players this expansion I would fully expect the hard cap to remain in place and the costs of upgrades to be horrendous.
People tend to forget that this is an 16-year-old game, and that while they've managed to do creative things like make tattoos out of transparent shirt textures, there's still limitations that exist from codeWhen they say "technical limitations", they mean what they're saying- its not just "oh we don't want to".FFXIV had the same issue when increasing bag space, and Yoshi P and his team said they couldn't because the character is coded to load in their entire inventory when swapping instances and thats just how its codedIf an item or piece of gear isn't coded by nature to be able to be changed, its really hard to then recode the item to function differently - essentially when you loot a new Freshly Embalmed Jerkin from Necrotic Wake after 9.0.5, it's actually going to be a completely different item ID#, that's simply using the same name, stats, and image as the one you're using now on your druidYou can't just add a "can be upgraded = true" line into the items code and expect it to now function with the new upgrade systemEveryone claiming blizz is talking out of their rear when claiming technical reasons knows nothing about those technical reasons in the first place
well, at least the system will be in place for next tier...
Wow, for "technical" reasons?. It is the same situation as the corruption gear where we couldn't re corrupt gear with the effects bought from mother. I already see blizz use this as a reason for people to spend more time playing the game just to re obtain the items we already have. They're already at the path to redemption but they decided to make a sink hole along the way.
