Mistweaver Monk Hotfix to Rising Mist for April 21st

We've seen the emergence of a Mistweaver build that does a great amount of healing using Rising Mist, and we're working on a hotfix to address it.

When we buffed Rising Mist with the intention of making melee Mistweaver a viable playstyle, players discovered that stacking extreme amounts of haste and cooldown reduction can reach a breaking point of infinite duration on your heal-over-time effects. Even though it's exciting to see people discover new builds and interactions, the sheer power level in this case is likely to have a negative effect on the healing game for the remainder of Battle for Azeroth.

This change is intended to prevent the infinite extension, while allowing Rising Mist to still enable an effective melee playstyle:

Rising Mist now extends heal-over-time effects by 2 seconds (was 4 seconds), and its healing is increased by 50%.

This change will go in with scheduled weekly maintenance on Tuesday in this region.

The only thing Blizzard had to do was nerf it for Enveloping Mist only. That's the problem, not the talent itself. I'm glad it is getting a change. In an ideal world healer outputs would be similar and your decision making on all healers should be reflected in the output assuming limitless healing potential. Instead this style healed so much and so quickly it was as it other healers decisions didn't matter. Non monks hps output was directly tied to how well the monk could perform this new healing style. Even if you overhealed content you could still take up so much healing with this strat it made it look like you vastly underhealed instead.Comment by KeasanWhile I see why Blizz did this, they should have taken a different route to nerfing it. The problem wasn't the talent, it was Enveloping Mist. Instead, they killed the talent and with it not just the overpowered infinity-enveloping build (which definitely needed to go) but also the vivify cleave build. 50% more healing isn't going to be nearly enough to convince the vivify cleave build users to stay, they'll go back to spamming Essence Font like mistweavers have been forced to do most of the expansion.

What's worse is that I actually don't think this stops the OP build at all. The further into this expansion we go, the easier the infinity-enveloping is to do. Cutting back to 2s is a temporary band-aid fix that will not actually fix the issue, and once we're a few weeks more into the endgame we'll see it begin to resurface (with a 50% healing buff...)Comment by infekI love all the hot and cold players. Cap how many seconds of extending it can do (up to 30 would have been a nice number)
Have it only affect Renewing Mist, which was the original intended playstyle (build up a lot of ReMs then blast Vivify cleaves during high damage)
Have Enveloping Mist only be allowed on X number of players (see: Glimmer of Light nerf)
Reduce the extension to 3 seconds and see if that prevents the Enveloping Mist style but keeps the ReM style

Option they took:
Completely kill the talent and make most Monks snap back to the same build they've been using since 2016.

I main monk mw since Legion (ToS) and I just feel grateful that I had a new playstyle to learn since that. There ain't a lot of healers.Comment by HaenekoIf I'm being completely honest, I don't quite understand the dramatic comments, and this comes from someone who runs keys mainly on my MW (I've healed raid too, but my monk is more geared towards keys than raid). From what I've read though, the talent isn't being nerfed into the ground, and it isn't really being gutted either; it's simply making you pay attention to your HoTs instead of actively ignoring them like people were able to do with their insane amounts of haste and stacking Ineff corruptions. It's even being given 50% increased healing, so I mean at least it isn't just losing 50% of the HoT extension, right? So without sounding like an arse... why are people freaking out? Just watch your HoTs like any other healer and you'll be fine.
