A missed opportunity for a more interesting article more in touch with the zeitgeist: Is Shadowlands a good time for quitting WoW?
Honestly no, Shadowlands hit the ground and weeks later collapsed under a drought of non time-gated content, horrendous pvp imbalance and extremely unrewarding PVE content. It doesn't look like any of this is changing in any meaningful ways, Blizzard is just caving and making damage control decisions (valor and upgrading pve gear).Go play FF or literally anything else instead, Shadowlands remains an embarrassing waste of time and money.
No, World of Warcraft is now a "play only at last patch" game.
I think it's a good time to start WoW for new players from the perspective of the fact that leveling has been eased so much. I'm not sure how much that means to returning players though. If someone quit WoW in the first place it's likely because of some disenchantment with either the amount of time it takes to play the current content meaningfully (which hasn't meaningfully decreased and some like myself would argue it has noticeably increased compared to many historic points in the game of the past) OR because of some disenchantment with the pacing and gating of pve content release timing, which kind of falls in with the aforementioned point and also hasn't dramatically improved because the team has neither been implanted with cyborg brains nor has its size been increased and working from home caused an initial delay which they'll be chasing all expac, OR because of disenchantment with the story/lore which I'm afraid sadly does not appear super compelling at this point. I have to agree with people criticizing WoW for changing from a game about vast conflicts where the player is a tiny part to this player-over-importance stuff where it's about one legendary hero or a tiny band of them and a dozen NPCs perhaps and what they do for x period of time that an expac occurs in after the fact in lore with everything else in the large picture pretty much brushed over very weakly. WoW's lore seems to have gotten lost in the wilderness sometime around MoP, WoD was a lore throwback that gave the writers a breather to write Legion which was one of the strongest from story perspective expacs since Wrath IMO, but after that there was BFA where obviously they didn't shine very well and as much as I'd like to say otherwise SL's story so far seems to be following the same type of formula which I think would be jarring and disappointing for returning players. On a slightly less serious note, looks like someone never heard of Betteridge's Law of Headlines:
The game feels like a beta right now where they still testing the system so no I would have to say that it's not a good time to come back.
I would recommend not getting into Shadowlands wait I mean Systemlands. It is the worst expansion in a while now.
I really wish Wowhead would implement a poll feature at the end of articles like these. There's clearly a lot of people who feel strongly on either side, and rather than an article that only shows a single individual's opinion and then forces a reader to wade through hundreds of comments, why not add a poll so readers can see what the Wowhead community in aggregate thinks?
"The storytelling has never been stronger. Beyond gameplay, in-game cinematics, out-of-game cinematics, comics, short stories, and full length novels all contribute to the tale that is being told, the story that we get to live."Going to strongly disagree here. While I do actually enjoy the story, I enjoy the story *in game*. Putting important stuff outside the game in comics, short stories, and novels really sucks because it leads to players saying things like "Calia who?"
Is anyone else LOLing on the floor with these angry trolls? The expansion is decent if you would stop looking for reasons to hate your Warcraft existence
Let's be honest, the only reason anyone still plays this game is a kind of bizarre MMORPG stockholm syndrome. It's objectively terrible but people find it familiar and comforting, like that boxed macaroni and cheese people still eat for some reason.
According to me: NOT if you want to tank, cuz tanking is bigger terror then ever... grab and run kite fests.then again: NOT if you want to heal or DPS cuz it will take you a year of begging/queueing to get in to any instance, due to the huge lack of tanks.... :D
