I was talking to a friend today about this. We both believe that this is coming probably five or six years too late. MoP was about "harmony", relaxing the factions to face the threat of the Old Gods would have made sense. Moving into WoD, the factions began to start to move toward more harmony to face the Iron Horde. Then, Legion - the swan song of WoW - showed Class Halls where the factions began to blend a little more. After Legion, of course, was a huge, forced faction conflict that could have totally been left out of the mix. MoP would have been the perfect time to do what they're doing now. Followed by some more lore movement toward cross-factions in WoD and finally a full-fledged abolishment of the factions all together. Even BfA, toward the end, really started to merge the factions into one cohesive fighting unit. Shadowlands even further. I do love this, and I do appreciate this. But I unfortunately, feel it is too late.
tl;dr Our servers are now so empty and we are considering recruitment cross-factions in guilds lol
These are the pros and cons in my perspective:Cons:In Chromie Time dungeons, it wouldn't make sense in the lore to have Alliance and Horde working together in a dungeon like Wailing Caverns since the relationship between the factions was different in the past. Two factions is usually what makes World of Warcraft interesting. War Mode wouldn't make much sense if players were teaming up with each other and open-world PvP would be odd since the factions are working together and Horde being in Stormwind wouldn't make sense and it also wouldn't make sense if they weren't allowed in still after the factions were working together.Pandarens would lose their sense to choose since the communities between Horde and Alliance would be melded together.Pros:Queuing for dungeons in Chromie Time and in normal storylines would take substantially less time.Communities would be bigger with more people from across the game joining. There could be more positive things to this but I think the Cons weigh out the Pros no matter what. I feel like some people are happy about the faction they chose and are loyal to the story characters on their faction so we might lose that even with something simple like cross-faction grouping.
yeeees finally im so happy :)
I love this and hope to see cross faction guilds in the future.
Faction war could still happen but might take a more interesting turn. Something is manipulating the leaders into fighting but only a brave group of heroes from both sides stand a chance of uncovering the real threat and stopping the war before it goes to far.
I think its funny how delusional and copium filled Asmongold is. He thinks cross faction grouping will make people want to reroll alliance.... Horde are Horde because they want to be. Maybe in classic wow alliance re-rolled horde because of a faction imbalance but overall on retail the big draw to the horde is a combination of many factors. Asthetics, a lot of people prefer the more gritty look of the horde structures and races, the general attitude of the horde factions as well. Not to mention from day 1 the horde had better racials in terms of PvP, stuns, fear breaks etc. Alliance? Oh you can break a root, get a bit of stealth detection? IMO the only good alliance racial should be removed from the game because it has locked me into only playing human.... The games all about farming rep now why would I do it 10% slower? From day 1 I wanted to be horde. My first character created was my undead mage. All my friends and family rolled night elves though (because they were "the only cool looking race") So I had to go alliance as well. And now that out of all my friends and family I was last man standing in WoW until November 2021. I spent years just playing alone on alliance not able to go horde because of all the alts, the crafting mats, the gold. I have so much inventory on alliance AND the rep bonus of human is too good. I have 48 characters at lvl 60 as well. probably a 70/30 split alliance over horde. So technically I can play anywhere I want but my main will always be human because it HAS to be due to this toxic end game hamster wheel they have us on.I would argue that removing the human reputation bonus would actually make more people roll horde than adding cross faction group play make people switch to alliance. Adding cross faction play literally makes it so you have no reason to transfer or switch...... You can have your cake and eat it to. Be on the faction you like (horde) and play with your friends who arent horde. It would be hilarious if numbers come out showing the opposite and retail alliance players plummet when Asmon thinks because its where his simpleton mind likes to play that everyone else must secretly want to be human warriors as well.I think human warrior is probably the most basic, low IQ class/race combo you can do. Basically you take any noob to any game like warcraft, starcraft, diablo. They go for what they can relate to. Human. Then dumb warrior because its such a simple concept, HULK SMASH! in the RTS games humans have everyting in plain english. I know what a farm is, a barracks, a footman, a marine.... WTF is a pylon? larva? I cant be trouble to learn this alien crap! I loved undead in war3 because they were the closest thing to protoss I could get outside of SC.
Maybe i can finally play a Blood Elf or Nightborne xD coz those are the only race I had any motivation of playing, the rest of the horde races are all disgusting monsters anyway :P (on a Side note, I don't play Worgan either but Space Goats are fine tho :P)
Great news, it make sense both story-wise and gameplay-wise. It's been since Vanilla that we have seen the Horde and the Alliance can play together, even run dungeons together, hello the cenarion circle. It's time we, as players, can.And for the gameplay, people will at least be capable of playing with their friends and with the race they like the most, offering new possibilities.Thank you, Ion and all the people behind this decision.
I would like to see this in the story aswell. horde and alliance tryed to work together so often now. its time for some peace and new friendships!
Just create a neutral faction. Develop story, quests and everything around it. Why does changing this game always involve taking something away and pretending it didn't happen?Evolve the game instead of devolving it.
"Less focus on the faction war"Well with the Horde thoroughly conquered by the Alliance that was kind of a given
Despite the armistice and the lack of tension between the factions, I still want to see faction exclusive quests in the future along with faction flight paths. It's one way that makes WoW diverse is the change in faction and different stories.
Good, less focus on faction war is good. The writers don't have the talent to write a nuanced story. And hopefully with cross faction guilds, hopefully in the future the Alliance might actually do some end game properly. This was a problem Blizzard caused in the first place mind you and tried to fix it when it was far too late.Since every time they do a Faction war story, the Alliance gets treated like a punching bag and the Horde goes on the commit war crimes.
"Warcraft isn't Just About Alliance vs Horde Anymore"? More like "Warcraft isnt about Warcraft anymore".
Like RP - maybe have cross-faction REALMS, so you know what your signing up for & give free transfers TO said realms to populate them...
