Gravity Lapse PvP Brawl in Patch 7.2 and Potential World PvP Improvements

Posted 2017/02/03 at 6:24 PM by Serrinn

Eye of the Storm

This brawl takes place on the Eye of the Storm map. Everything is the same except you are periodically shot up into the air! Far enough so that you can hop from base to base. You are launched up in the air for 3 seconds (you will have a buff called Gravity Lapse) and then begin falling.

You definitely fall quite rapidly!

You do not take fall damage from this - under normal circumstances, you would most certainly die. However you will die if you are mounted.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be jumping into 7.2’s new PvP Brawls on the Public Test Realm, and you’re invited to join us!

Several members of the World of Warcraft development, quality assurance, and community teams will be queuing for PvP Brawls between 3 PM and 5 PM Pacific (6 PM and 8 PM Eastern) every Friday, starting on February 3rd and continuing through February 17th. If you’d like to join, simply log into the PTR and queue for a Brawl during that time.

Blizzard employees will be identified in game by their guild (either <Blizzard Alliance> or <Blizzard Horde>). We’re looking forward to having you fighting alongside us -- or sending us to the graveyard -- in the Brawls!
My pet always seemed to be out of range after gravity lapses. Was hard to keep track of where it was putting him, but it seemed inconsistent. I couldn't Kill Command for the first 5 sec or so after landing.

Potential World PvP Improvements

Blizzard

Hello everyone,

This is a topic we've been discussing a lot recently. We agree that damage feels rather high in World PvP situations and we're considering some changes. First, we removed base resilience coming into Legion because we adjusted the rate at which health pools scale with respect to damage. In the past, player damage tended to outpace a character's health pool making damage feel stronger as an expansion went on. We made some adjustments to that system but we've found through playtesting with the templates that we've had to decrease damage and increase health to get damage pacing to a good spot.

In a future patch, we're considering adding in some base resilience to bring damage and health ratios closer to where they are with our pvp templates (and the adjusting those templates to compensate). It should make for better damage pacing in the outside world. We don't plan on activating templates in the outside world though. We think it's important that the game have a place where we don't make such drastic adjustments so you can feel your character's full power when fighting another player. Meanwhile, battlegrounds and arenas provide a much more structured environment for PvP gameplay.

Hi.

I just wanted to make sure that you know that the suggestions in this thread were indeed seen and discussed. As far as I know, there isn't any plan to resurrect old sets like this.

We'll let you know if we put such a thing into development.

Nice. I hope the brawls get even crazier. I was disappointed taren mill was a brawl, was worried it wasn't gonna follow blizzards other games with silly rules. Looks like it will though.

I just hope we get more fun stuff like this, like everyone being polymorphed randomly or everyone being death gripped to a random spot on the map. The idea of fun and annoying changes really sounds hilarious.

If you are being sarcastic, then I have a pro-tip for you ; you don't have to do these brawls. Enjoy the rest of the game while we can enjoy this part.

Oh, Blizzard will make sure to add rewards for the brawls, so more people are playing them than only those that are actually interested in them.

Hello everyone,

So the way I understand this the proposal is that resilience will be added mostly to dampen the effects of overpowered scenarios in world PvP and that structured environments are already quite modular.

On another note, the EotS brawl looks fun considering how I expect Disengage to work on it.

you should literally take your own advice before trying to get other people to take it. literally.

I wonder how Typhoon will work? Could it send people off the map, if timed right?

Oh for crying out loud, would they just bring the bloody templates to wpvp already. Base resil will do bugger all to bridge the gear gap between raiders and non-raiders, and consequently dueling will still be just as broken as it is right now.

You know, when I first heard the name for this brawl I figured it'd be normal eots with sudden, random instances of zero-g combat. Like what happens in the Kael'thas fights when he decides to turn off gravity, but instead it appears you just get launched into the air. Bit of a let down.

That would be F-king AWESOME! Just about to "finish" him and then everyone gets polymorphed. Gotcha b*tch.

Great so even in world pvp you will need a full group to take a tank or healer down. For a fair fight go play the constructed pvp, they should leave the world alone

Until you disable legendaries while flagged there will always be too much damage and a high unfair advantage.

Blizzard decided to change up PvP a bit and so now we have PvP brawls in which will be our normal battlegrounds but with an added twist involved.
In this PvP brawl it is "Gravity Lapse" in which every minute or so everyone will be blasted upwards and then will be sent down rapidly, you are able to change your course but have to be quick.
Also if you have the flag or are in a building it will prevent you from being blasted up.
Gravity Lapse It will give you a 15 second heads up so you can use it as an advantage while pvping the normal Eye of the Storm battleground.
