Nobody shedding tears for mages who were meta for at least 2 consecutive expansions.
SAVE ARCANE MAGE
#BringBackShadowlandsKyrianI loved living my life in true burst windows. let me do it right and delete 1 mob. I miss the true risk reward playstyle. 10 seconds of perfect play meant I could delete 1 dangerous mob while everyone else enjoyed the pad city.
Ironically the nether precision gameplay is much better than the current version. I hate to game around random salvo buffs from splinters. The last-minute introduced intuition talent is unnecessary. Capping salvo stacks feels very bad. If only they can re-introduce the double dipping gameplay from pre 10.0.5 (no, not aethervision. That one is horrible).
Anyone who comes in here with "Waaaah, mages had it too good for too long, no one cares" should take a step back and look at the overall state of the game for many specs before commenting, this isn't just a mage problem, Arcane just happens to be the spec highlighted in this specific article.
banger articlehope blizz takes some notes
I've honestly given up on pushing M+. Surviving is so hard that it's just exhausting. The amount of focus required to perfectly manage my cooldowns is insane and a single mistake is fatal. I managed to time an +18, but I had to plan out every single CD before the key even started.
I really like the gameplay involving Orbs. The only issues are that the damage is too low and the defence is too weak. I like the current Arcane Mage.I think they need to rework it and give all the Orb stuff to Spellslinger, while Sunfury should keep playing like TWW. Proceeding like this will allow them to use the talent tree to fix everything else instead of splitting it between orb and AM talents.
good write up! i'm not asking for mage to be meta again, but the other specs need some love and arcane especially, i loved the way TWW played (even though it was incredibly complicated, it flowed well) and i can't stand the way Midnight arcane plays.
It's funny to see people hating on Mage when some specs have been meta for two to three expansions. Mage was meta for TWW Season 2 and Season 3 raid only, but I guess looking at stats is hard for some people. Anyway, Mage overall is in a terrible state. Frost damage is good, yes, but playing it is horrible, and being constantly near death is laughable while Devo DH or DKs almost can't die from any non-wipe damage. Fire and Arcane don't even exist right now, so yeah, Mage needs a rework overall, especially Arcane and Fire.
Porom is unsufferable. Bleh. The problem are the Sheeple and their Sheeple mentality. You can play Sunfury. I play it in +12 to +14 key range. I can't do Unholy DK dps, but I can do okay. With the buffs tomorrow, we will be less behind Spellslinger.I've also discovered a lot of guides say to play Sunfury with the Enlightened talent for mana restore -- but that's wrong. You need to drop that talent for Mana Adept, which gives 10% mana back per 4-charge Barrage you do. This is very necessary due to Arcane Pulse mana costs and the desire to spam a lot of Arcane Pulse in M+. Maybe by the end of season 2, with higher Mastery levels then (meaning more max mana and more mana regen) we can play without Mana Adept, but Sunfury + the new Arcane Pulse being so mana hungry just causes a situation where you must play Mana Adept. The slight passive mana regen increase from Enlightened is just NOT ANYWHERE CLOSE to enough constant mana restoration to be viable. The sims say it's more DPS than Mana Adept. But if you actually TRY TO PLAY with Enlightened, you'll be OOM 5 sec after Arcane Surge ends and be thinking "? how the hell do I manage my mana?" --- the answer is Mana Adept. You lose like 0.5% sim DPS, in exchange for ACTUALLY IN REALITY (since sims are not actual reality!) dealing way more DPS overall due to being able to always keep going with your rotation due to Mana Adept mana restore. You cannot be OOM with Mana Adept. You can always get mana back with it.Dropping Enlightened for Mana Adept is a tiny DPS loss on paper and actually a DPS gain overall throughout a key due to way more access to mana-on-demand by simply barraging at 4 charges. But Porom and his dumb Arcane Cronies never actually played Sunfury enough to know this is true for sure. First, they saw Spellslinger was way ahead, so they all personally swapped to it for maximum damage, which has made almost all of the Mage people and Arcane Mage guide writers really out of touch about Sunfury. My thesis is this: nobody has any effing clue about Sunfury Arcane because nobody has ACTUALLY tried playing it for many hours. But I have. And I know about it. I've suffered on Sunfury while the rest of you went to Spellslinger. I will say this: Porom and his Arcane Cronies just slapped some crappy "we think this is best, but we didn't spend any hours testing/playing it" talent build for Sunfury Arcane up onto WoWhead and called it a day. The WoWhead Sunfury arcane builds SUCK! They have the wrong talents! Period!I also think people should NOT take Arcane Orb or Orb Barrage as Sunfury. Those 2 points are wasted. And you don't need Impetus, either. All of that is a waste. You want Illuminated Thoughts instead, for the 3% extra chance to proc CC, as this gives you more missiles, more overpowered missiles procs, etc. As for Arcane Charge refund after Barraging, you simply must ALWAYS bank 1 Arcane Missiles charge to use to restore charges after every Barrage.Sometimes, following the talent build that sims suggest is dumb and bad. I guarantee you if the best Mages in the world were playing Sunfury, they would not -- after many hours of refinement -- actually play the same talent setup in the WoWhead M+ Sunfury Arcane Mage guide, because that guide suggests the 3 incorrect talents I wrote about above (Enlightened, Arcane Orb, and Orb Barrage -- do NOT take ANY of these for Sunfury Arcane!)
People crying in this thread about mages being meta for a while are just bad players that would rather seethe in jealousy than learn a new class.
Mages really hate Blink vs Shimmer because Shimmer was busted af and them making it actually a choice is interesting, but its never going to feel good when you lose power.
He's right, mages got pummeled.
