Why are there so many people spouting "hurr durr china" idiocy in the comments. Blizzard doesn't do anything about censorship for the Chinese market. The Chinese take care of that themselves. They literally always have. Blizzard doesn't even handle World of Warcraft anymore once it's within the Chinese market. NetEase does. If Blizzard changed the game globally based on the desires of China, we'd ALL be visiting the Scholomance Bakery. Hell, a place like Maldraxxus wouldn't even EXIST. I know nobody likes Blizzard's apparent associations, and given what the CCCP is like, that's 10000% understandable. But before dumping uninformed panic comments and memeing about how they're going to block terms like Tiananmen Square or Winnie the Pooh, do even the barest minimum of research.

In some cases friends or personnel that someone knows well might joke with each other using racial slurs, especially in the military. When I was in the Army I knew a Hispanic soldier that called himself a racial slur and didn't care if his platoon mates called him the same thing or similar ones. I used to joke around with a Native American soldier I knew calling him a slur and he would reply calling me one. It's just how it goes.If this censorship is only for when speaking to people that you are not friends with on Battle.net than I am fine with it, but censoring conversations between Battle Tag friends seems a little much.
This could get nasty in German, where several skill names are actually censored by the chat system, such as Crippling Poison (Verkrüppelndes Gift). Or several area names, such as anything containing "Marsch" (Like the Zangarmarschen, the Zangarmarsh). Devil's advocate - automatically cancelling chat messages containing several names that are actually in-game because of an automatic filter would really be painful.I don't care either way about an implementation of a filter like this, but... Please, Blizz, pretty please, fix your thrice-damned word filters and double check them for every client language before you do.
You do realize this affects people speaking other languages right? It's common for people to speak Bulgarian using the Latin alphabet and this means that some words are impossible to be written because they contain an english racial slur despite it having nothing to do with the word. For example "Book" in Bulgarian written using the latin alphabet is "Kniga". Do you see the problem?
Uhhh.Okay but what does this really do? it means people are going to say it in voice chat more.. and you wont be able to block that, and if you do.. then we censor all rap music too? go into gang lands ask them to stop using it? or it is only white people who gotta stop using a word.. yeah that's not gonna work.I doubt this will be overturned tomorrow, or this year.. or maybe not even this decade but if blizzard is around long enough social order will have to bounce back and stop the stupid hate speech BS.
This is a very positive change. Most people cannot properly control themselves and need strong outside help and guidance.
GOOD. GOOD. GOOD! more!
I mean if it's just the n word then it's fine. I haven't seen anyone ever using it anyway. But if they start censoring things like %^&*, &*!@, ass, @#$% or some non english words then that's a problem. Language filter already exists, ignores already exist and there is nothing wrong with ^&*! talking in online game
Im so glad a game with two bad expansions in a row and a current content drought is spending time developing a system like this. I would rather see my subscription money go towards chat management than actual game content. Very good addition. Blizzard is a good company. All of their games are in content drought, but at least they're paying attention to in-game chat. AAA company.
I honestly don't see the need for this. This constant need to restrict thought, words, etc. The game already has a profanity filter which you can completely control. While the use of racial slurs is disgusting, this is just tedious to see. I'd rather have an optional filter that I can turn on and off instead of a forced "no no word" list like I'm in preschool. This is just sad.
Easy to guess which word they are talking about. And it's a great change.Hopefully they can include certain homophobic/transphobic slurs as well in the future, in addition to the racist ones.Thank you Blizzard!
Blizzard: Cracks down on speech in chat. Also Blizzard: 80% of LFG grps in group finder are just. WTS CSN 10% off discount! M+ carry's 10-15 keys and KSM low price!Yeah color me surprised that will still be a thing in 9.1 but certain words will be bad Mkay. At least force the WTS people back into trade where they belong and improve the actual game before you play at censoring people lol.
I agree racial slurs and the like go, they should add sexist things too. But i hope they leave everyday swearing, like F and shizz. But B and C should go.
