Archaeology just needed some tweaks to be fixed. Also explanation that it's tied to azeroth is lame. They do realize that archaelogy as a literal tourn is about discovering artifacts and history of past of ANY race or location, not just azeroth. It's not called Azeroth ArchaeologyIt'd be nice at very least if they could improve it for places it exists. Remove rotation from legion and just make all the quests available at once for example.
Archaeology in the afterlife doesn't really make sense anyway.
Honestly, I'm not upset about this. I do think they should keep Archaeology in the future, but it really needs a rework. It also makes sense that there wouldn't be archaeological artifacts to find in the afterlife so this is a good lore time to take a step back from it and rework it in the background for what comes next.
As someone that has every archaeology achievement in the game I am ok with this. I did them cause they existed, but I never truly enjoyed it. I'm glad to have done it looking back, while breathing a sigh of relief that I no longer have to do going forward. Even if it is for just Shadowlands
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
Archaeology is more so tied to the mortal realms, which the Shadowlands are not. Therefore it makes sense that there would be nothing for archaeology, plus the Shadowlands are not just Azerothian (apologies to those who hadn't read/seen that tidbit). So that would mean that developers would have to create at least 5 maybe 10 new "alien" races, which would lead in to a handful more lore/story/community 'issues'.
Arch is awful. IT NEEDS TO GET UPDATED!For one, the digsites are 90% too bloody big (not everyone plays a druid, blizzard!) which makes it a big hassle...What if there was a "ring" activated when in a digsite that you "ping" and it sends out a pulse. Red, yellow and green plus a directing arrow.
I love archeology. Its a shame they wont be doing more with it. Though i didnt care for the stupid crating artifacts.
Well, that's unfortunate. I've enjoyed Archaeology well enough in the past (particularly in Legion).
still no zinrokh for few thousand solves..
Archaeology and Pet Battles could be very interesting mobile minigames with cosmetic ingame rewards. I wouldn't even mind a little microtransaction on these apps so making it could be justified...
The writing's been on the wall for Archaeology ever since the skill levels didn't get broken off into specific expansions like the other professions did. However, I wish I'd been paying more attention back in 2014 and read that interview that was quoted in this article. They outright admitted to designing the game around temporary features all those years ago...
Another one bites the dust, sigh.
Archaeology is the only profession I really care about and enjoy instead of just leveling it up because I feel like I should.Seems kind of silly that they couldn't just throw in a few new cosmetic rewards for Shadowlands archaeology, but I understand everything, even seemingly small stuff, is time they could be devoting to something else so I'm not too upset about it.
They could have applied Archy to SL and made it super duper awesome by allowing players to comb the Shadowlands in search of hidden long lost armor and weapons that have been removed from the game and only exist in the nether or some vanilla toon's long forgotten bank slots. My rogue would be dancing if he could chase a questline through SL that allowed him to retrieve the Cadaverous Armor that he deleted many years ago because he had no idea transmog would be a thing and then when he tried to get it to drop before Cata, it never would drop again. Not that I'm bitter or anything, I'm just saying.
