Gamers Documentary Reviewed
2011/01/26 at 2:27 PM
A while back I was fortunate enough to get in touch with the team responsible for a film I had caught on the
, which gives an introspective look at the phenomenon of massively-multiplayer online games, specifically World of Warcraft. I got in touch with their team and they sent me a copy of their documentary to check out, and I thought I'd share my opinions with you guys. The filmmaker, Ben Gonyo, interviewed a variety of World of Warcraft players just like you and I for insight into their world and playing habits. It was a pretty interesting look at the subculture we've grown so accustomed to, and many subjects common to seasoned players were addressed, such as finding a guild and the dedication and requirements of being in one.
Check out my own view on the film as well as a video clip after the break!
Gear Check: Intel x25M 160GB Solid State Drive
2010/12/01 at 1:56 PM
Let's face it - for many casual gamers, most high-end PC upgrades aren't really necessary. I'm sure the majority of our readers are World of Warcraft players, and I'm sure we all know that Blizzard has gone out of their way to ensure that World of Warcraft will run on nearly
. It's good that they do this, as it allows more people to enjoy the game (albeit at lower settings) and ultimately they get more subscribers - win/win scenario. However, I wanted to talk to the rest you guys out there about a technology that is still relatively new to most consumer computer users -
solid state drives
- and give you guys an idea of what they could mean for you, and your gaming experiences!
I'm sure some of our more tech-savvy users have at least heard of solid state drives, or SSDs as they are most commonly called. Some of you might even be using them in your computer (you lucky dogs)! Intel gave us a few of our own to test-drive, so I'd like to introduce you guys to the future of hard drives with simple pros and cons, elaborated on in ways that any Azerothian can understand!
The Guild Leader's Handbook - A WoW Nerd's Review
2010/06/08 at 1:59 PM
Not very long ago I received a copy of
The Guild Leader's Handbook
, a nicely-printed book authored by
column. I'll admit, I had never really read the column before as, despite being a guild leader, I've always decided to remain blissfully ignorant on how to do things properly and have been just winging it with friends in my World of Warcraft escapades. We've been pretty successful, but I can tell where the ability to properly identify problems and make changes early on would have definitely helped in the long run to create a more productive and enjoyable experience for my guild's members, as well as myself. That's where Andrew's book comes in. The
Guild Leader's Handbook
offers a detailed look into the more technical aspects of effectively managing a guild in any MMO - dragon slaying is business, too! Check out my impressions after the break!

Though it's not exactly a matter for public record, I've always been of the opinion that
makes an excellent mouse. Most of the things that they normally brag about don't seem to make or break the product (“our mouse is almost 3000 points more responsive than a regular mouse!”), but I've never been dissatisfied by a product of theirs.
Razer DeathAdder Left Hand Edition
is no exception.

Gear Check: Razer Naga MMO Gaming Mouse + Megasoma Mousing Surface!
2009/10/19 at 2:02 AM
Greetings Wowhead denizens! You may remember a few months ago I got my hands on some sweet Razer gaming peripherals and was able to give them a go and
share my opinions
with the rest of you. Back then we were looking at the
Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard
Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse
, and the
Razer Destructor Precision Gaming Surface
. I enjoyed using all of the products, and still use the Lycosa and Destructor to this day - anyone who has caught me on Team Fortress 2 or in our #Wowhead IRC channel has probably heard my blathering on about how much I love my Lycosa. Razer's new additions are no exception to the quality and performance I have come to expect from their products. Their latest offerings include the
Razer Megasoma™ Professional Gaming Mouse Mat
, a sleek, hybrid silicon mousepad that combines the best of both worlds and (most importantly) Razer'
WoW Armory for the iPhone: A Review
2009/07/15 at 11:39 PM
Now THIS is interesting. I assume all of you who are both Blizzard fans and iPhone owners have already heard the news, but for those of you who haven't: Today, Blizzard released the
WoW Armory app for the iPhone
. I'm a Mac user and an iPhone owner, so I thought I'd take the time to write a quick review.
I've also included a gallery of screenshots, and the text of the actual app info in the iTunes store. Check after the break to see all the info. :)

One of the things I've always liked about World of Warcraft is the fact that it is a relatively low maintenance PC game - it doesn't require the most hardcore hardware and expensive doodads in order to still provide an enjoyable gaming experience. I remember when I first started playing WoW, in May of 2005, I was playing on a salvaged Hewlett-Packard desktop with barely a month left of life in it, reveling in the much-loved experience of on-board video and way less than a gig of RAM.
I played through a ton of content on this machine, eventually upgrading my RAM so I wouldn't always die in
. I played on this machine thru Burning Crusade and all the way into Black Temple until the PC would finally have no more, and began greeting me with a
Blue Screen of Death
every raid. It was then I swore I would have no more of this foolishness, and I built the beloved PC I have today. It's gone through a few hardware upgrades, a new video card here, a new sound card there.
One thing I hadn't ever really put much thought into upgrading was i
