Acquiring and Spending Valor on 6.2.3 PTR, Requests for Legion Q&A, Blizzard's Pumpkin Contest
2015/10/20 at 9:00 PM
Blizzard clarified on Twitter today that there will not be a hard weekly cap on acquiring
in 6.2.3. Do note that this is a different currency than the Valor Points in Mists of Pandaria which had a hard cap.\r
We've reviewed the ways to acquire and spend
on the PTR, including how many times you can run an activity per week. Do note that amounts are preliminary and subject to change.\r
There are four ways to get
: First heroic Warlords dungeon of the day (
LFGDungeons - Draenor - Heroic Random - 1st
). Awards up to 0
per week if done daily.\r
: Completing each Mythic dungeon for the first time each week. Awards up to 0
per week if all eight are completed.\r
: Completing the weekly bonus quest (pets excluded).\r
: Completing a wing of Hellfire CItadel LFR (
LFGDungeons - Draenor 6.2 - Raid Finder - 1st
) for the first time a week, there are 5 wings total. 0
if all five wings are completed.\r
: Completing a wing of Highmaul or Foundry LFR (
LFGDungeons - Draenor - Raid Finder - 1st
) for the first time a week. There are 3 Highmaul wings and 4 Blackrock Foundry wings. 5
if all seven wings are completed.\r
The maximum you could acquire per week is 700 from Heroic Dungeons + 2400 from Mythic Dungeons + 500 from event + 750 from Hellfire LFR + 525 from Highmaul\/Foundry LFR = 4875.
Wowhead's Guide to Patch 5.4.8
2014/05/19 at 8:11 PM
Patch 5.4.8 goes live on Tuesday and it has additional item upgrades and ways to acquire Valor Points! We've put together all the quality-of-life changes in a patch guide for you.
The patch is now live, and we have discovered a couple of issues:
Bigger Bag becoming account-wide is causing progress to be reset. Reward Systems Designer Russ Petersen tweeted that it's being looked into.
The two achievements for the Dread Raven and Dread Hatchling are not appearing for some players, but are for others.
Keep in mind that this is not Patch 6.0 which brings about increased heirloom droprates, the removal of hit\/expertise, and the removal of
Reins of the Kor'kron War Wolf
. Read more about 6.0 changes here.
In addition, several datamined spells providing large buffs will not be active with 5.4.8's launch:

Item Upgrades in Patch 5.3, Oondasta's Health Reduced by 50%
2013/03/22 at 1:27 PM
Blizzard posted a huge blog on item upgrades today, in the midst of revealing their new game, Hearthstone at PAX East.
Here's what you need to know about item upgrades returning:
They'll be returning in Patch 5.3 at a reduced cost for PvE gear.
is needed to upgrade an item by 4 levels, instead of 0
as in Patch 5.1.
5.2 Justice items now require 750 Justice to upgrade per 8 item levels, for a total of 750 Justice for 8 item levels per item.
Season 12 PvP items can be upgraded, but no other PvP items for the foreseeable future. Many PvPers did not like the concept of upgrades, and there were some imbalance issues going from ilvl 483 Honor gear that was upgraded to ilvl 491 in 5.1, to ilvl 476 un-upgradeable Honor gear in 5.2.
There was also a post today stating that
's health was reduced by 50%--should be a bit more killable now.

Wowhead's Patch 5.2 Interview with Lead Game Designer Ion "Watcher" Hazzikostas
2013/02/28 at 2:22 PM
Patch 5.2 is right on the horizon, bringing with it a new raid full of exciting bosses and powerful epic loot! Yesterday I had the opportunity to interview Lead Encounter Developer Ion "Watcher" Hazzikostas, who shared insights on
Throne of Thunder
's design as well as on raid-related topics such as Item Upgrades and Thunderforged gear.
Topics covered include:
The decision to implement Ra-den, a limited-attempt heroic-only boss, in Throne of Thunder.
Thoughts on the staggered release of Tier 14 content.
Progression paths for raiders in 5.2 who have yet to complete Tier 14 content.
The multiple purposes behind Thunderforged items and how they can benefit 25-player raids.
Strengths, weaknesses, and possible modifications to the item upgrade system.
The purpose behind the new Feats of Strength (Ahead of the Curve, Cutting Edge) for killing Tier 14 bosses before 5.2's release.[
5.2 PTR: Spirit Beasts, Item Upgrade Hiatus, Revised T15 Set Bonuses
2013/01/15 at 11:43 AM
There are three new spirit beasts on the PTR--spectral porcupines. These pets are similar to the Firelands tames in that they spawn neutrally, are visible to anyone, can easily one shot players if not kited properly, and are invulnerable to being tamed unless they're below 20% HP. Thanks to user Ozlem for the tip!
Degu is a red porcupine that patrols to the east of Crane Wing Refuge in
Gumi is a blue porcupine that is to the north-west of One Keg, in the mountains of

5.2 PTR: New Heirlooms, Future Item Upgrades, Ghostcrawler Tweets
2013/01/08 at 3:21 PM
Ghostcrawler has been using Twitter instead of the forums for a while, and recently he's been addressing a lot of class balance issues, as well as talking about the PTR.
The biggest announcement he's recently made was that new gear in 5.2 won't have Item Upgrade options, such as Throne of Thunder raid gear. Instead, Item Upgrades may be options for patches that do not have new raid content.
Is Item Upgrade going to be available for 5.2 Gear (e.g. Tyrannical PVP and Throne of Thunder). Thoughts on how well it works?
ATM, we are planning on no upgrading during 5.2. Too early to evaluate how well it worked. I'm sure it will need tweaking. I would think having higher ilevel would help a lot in the new content and will compete for a time with newer gear.
still no answer if VP will be reset\/downgraded like in the past on 5.2's release?
I don't believe we have answered that yet. (View Source)
Hi. Is valor pts upgrade system implemented only for in-between tiers period or also for new tiers one like in 5.2. ? Thanks.

5.1 Site Features: New Tooltips and Item Upgrades
2012/11/30 at 5:25 PM
Over this past week, the Wowhead team has implemented new site tools reflecting 5.1 changes: many Item Upgrade tools and redesigned tooltips!
Upgrading an item via currency is a unique feature added in 5.1 in which players can permanently upgrade all ilvl 458+ gear by 8 ilvls. It's not really obvious to calculate how an item will scale up, so we designed a bunch of tools to help you out!
Our Item Comparison Tool now supports Item Upgrades. An "Upgrade" option has been added to the item menu (click on the icon to access), which will automatically adjust the tooltip and all the stats. Go to http:\/\/
\/compare to get started!
Search results now display an "Upgrades" column between "Req." and "Side." This column displays icons if the item can be upgraded, and mousing over an icon shows an upgraded version for easy reference. There is also a new search filter: [url=http:\/\/
New Item Upgrade System in 5.1, WoW's 8th Anniversary, BWC Coverage
2012/11/19 at 11:23 AM
While 5.1 has a handful of new gear from reputation rewards, the majority of gear upgrades in 5.1 will come through a new currency-based upgrade system. Players can permanently increase the ilvl of their 458+ gear (both armor and weapons) by visiting a new Ethereal and cashing in spare currency.
Wowhead has created several tools for item upgrades:
Each item's page has toggle options to display upgraded stats.
An Upgrade column has been added to search result pages. This displays all the upgrade versions for an item in icon form, similar to dynamic quest rewards. Mousing over these icons will display the upgraded versions.
A new search filter has been added: "Can Be Upgraded" under General.
Advanced tooltip code has been added so you can display a specific upgraded item's tooltip.
