More story

Argus is the original homeworld of the Eredar. It was once a utopian world whose inhabitants were both vastly intelligent and highly gifted in magic. Thousands of years ago, the Eredar lived here in tranquility. Argus has since been twisted by demonic, chaotic energies. It has become the stronghold of the Burning Legion and is even referred to as Legion's homeworld. It is bisected by a great, fel-radiating rift that ends at a cataclysm which has removed a portion of the planet. Argus is so saturated with fel magic that a demon's death there is permanent. However, the Krokul present on Argus say that even though the demons are killed here, they return.

Argus was once ruled by the Second Duumvirate, consisting of Velen and Kil'jaeden. During this time, the sorcerer Thal'kiel and his order of eredar mages, the Wakeners, began using summoning magics to conjure demons from the Twisting Nether. Archimonde, his trusted apprentice, decapitated his former master himself. Archimonde would later rise to rule Argus alongside Velen and Kil'jaeden, and the three eredar wisely ruled the planet for many years in harmony.

Eventually, Argus attracted the attention of Sargeras. He offered the Eredar a deal: In exchange for their loyalty, he would give them power undreamed of by all races. Kil'jaeden and Archimonde were quick to accept the offer, but Velen had a vision of the future: the Eredar would be transformed into demons under the rule of Sargeras. Eventually, Velen was contacted by a race of divine energy beings called the Naaru, and he guided his followers off the planet. They fled Argus, taking the name Draenei, meaning "exiled ones", while Kil'jaeden and Archimonde became the feared, insidious sorcerers and tacticians of the Burning Legion. As the Draenei fled, the world was devoured by the Burning Legion.

The Netherlight Crucible and You

Hey guys!

So, after yesterday's Q&A, it's become apparent that there's still some confusion about the Netherlight Crucible and how it works. We've been keeping an eye on your discussions about the topic, and wanted to give some explanations where we can, as well as open up a thread for any additional questions you may have.

Q: How do the Relic "talents" unlock?

A: As your Artifact increases in level (by spending Artifact Power), your Relic slots will level up as well. When you first unlock the Crucible, you'll have access to the first additional trait (a +5 increase to your Artifact's item level) in each slot. The second row unlocks at Artifact level 60, 63, and 66 (for the left, center, and right Relic slots, respectively), and the third and final row unlocks at Artifact level 69, 72, and 75. This should all be pretty apparent when you look at those slots in-game, but may not be showing clearly via datamined info.

Q: What did you mean by "it can't double roll a trait"?

A: Just that you will never be able to upgrade a Relic to increase the same Artifact trait twice. If your Relic already has a bonus rank of Wrath of the Ashbringer on it, that trait will not be one of the three options presented in the bottom row of the Crucible's upgrade tree.

In other words, there's no risk of having your Wrath of the Ashbringer relic be "ruined" by not rolling a second bonus to Wrath of the Ashbringer, because that could never have happened in the first place. However, if you get a relic without Wrath of the Ashbringer, there's now a chance that it'll gain it from the Crucible.

Additionally, those three options will always be unique; it won't, for example, give you the "choice" between Deflection, Deflection, or Deflection. Aside from making sure you always have options, this means that your odds of having your favorite trait appear on a Relic you'd otherwise have discarded are actually pretty decent.

Q: How do the ranks for the first two rows work?

A: There are no such ranks. We think this is coming from some confusion about how the Netherlight Crucible is showing up in datamining, versus how it actually operates in-game. Once you've unlocked a row in the Crucible, you just select the option you like, and that's it - there's no additional leveling up of those options beyond that.

For those peeking into the data (or anyone else who might be curious): this is because of how we built the system to allow the unlockable effects to stack between each relic. It's just a subtle behind-the-scenes optimization on our end.

Q: What are the requirements to access the Netherlight Crucible?

A: Our intent at this stage of development is for there to only be two requirements: your character is level 45, and you have the account-wide achievement "Now You're Cooking With Netherlight." That achievement is given as part of the final chapters of the 7.3 story campaign, which is planned to open week 3 of the patch (so 15 days after release).

Q: Why are you adding this system? What’s with the RNG?

A: The Netherlight Crucible (aside from being an important part of the 7.3 storyline) is intended to help with an issue with Relic availability that players have been reporting for some time now. As Ion explained during our last Q&A, there are technical issues with the way Relics were built that limit which bonus traits can be available from raids. This has caused a number of raiders to feel as though their best bet is to run Mythic Keystone dungeons constantly in the hopes of having a Relic with their ideal bonus trait drop (and Titanforge for a high item level).

Those who were following development of Patch 7.2 may recall an earlier take on an improvement for this issue, where we experimented with adding a single, randomized second bonus trait to Relics. Ultimately, we decided that was the wrong approach and wanted a system that put a little more control in players’ hands. So, while the Netherlight Crucible does still have an element of randomness, it presents you with several options to choose from.

To be clear: we believe that having some element of randomness is important. Our goal was not to simply allow players to choose the precise bonus traits they wanted (you already do that, more or less, when spending Artifact Power). We still want there to be those exciting moments where a Relic gives you a great outcome. The Netherlight Crucible is intended to make Relics more valuable on average, not to make all Relics be equal value.

Q: Will I be able to trade Relics with other players to see who gets the best options at the Crucible?

A: No. Previewing a Relic at the Netherlight Crucible will bind it to your character and remove the ability to trade it. This is because those trait options don’t actually exist on the Relic until you attune it to the Crucible, in a process similar to enchanting a piece of gear. It also prevents raid teams from feeling like they need to send everyone who might be interested in a Relic back to the Vindicaar before continuing.

Q: Will the Netherlight Crucible work on Relics acquired prior to 7.3 release?

A: Yes. However, keep in mind that it will take some time (likely several weeks) to unlock the later stages of the Netherlight Crucible, where the additional bonus traits come in. We don’t expect that stockpiling Relics prior to 7.3 will give any real advantage in practice.

Q: Doesn’t this just mean I’ll want my best two traits on each Relic now?

A: For the hardcore min/maxer, yes, there will still be a “best” outcome for your Relic configuration. However, there are now more Relics that can achieve that state (as Relics with your second-best trait can now roll your best trait at the Crucible), and you’ll encounter fewer “bad” Relics along the way.

Q: Why do I have to go back to the Netherlight Crucible to upgrade my Relic? Didn’t you want to get away from mechanics like that?

A: Players often compare this to the old Reforging system, and our dislike of having to visit a vendor after each and every upgrade. That hasn’t changed. The Netherlight Crucible only affects Relics – you won’t need to visit the Crucible every time you pick up a new pair of boots.

Hopefully, that will help clear the air about how the Netherlight Crucible works, but we're sure you have more questions, so ask away and we'll do our best to answer what we can! Thanks!

After the fall of Argus, the Draenei's finest warriors followed Prime Naaru Xe'ra across the cosmos in an eternal war to bring about the Legion's end. Since then, other survivors of the Burning Crusade have joined the ranks of the Lightforged.

More story

The Grand Army of the Light was established by High Exarch Turalyon and Lady Alleria Windrunner, and rallied numerous survivors from several worlds that were taken and broken by the Burning Legion. The Draenei of Argus had survived their world's downfall from the Legion and would join the Grand Army of the Light to avenge their fallen and end the Legion's conquest to rule the entire universe.

The Draenei have awaited the day when the Army would emerge for more than twenty millennia. One of the Prophet Velen's many visions was of the Army of the Light: a grand coalition of Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Elves, Worgen, Orcs, Tauren, Trolls, Goblins, and even the Undead. The Draenei themselves are foretold as the backbone of this mighty army, with many of them joining the fray against the darkness, along with an innumerable number of dragons and Naaru. The leader of this great coalition was known to be High Exarch Turalyon; however, Velen was unclear who the person was when his vision ended.

At some point, the dreadlord Lothraxion was infused with the Light and joined the Army of the Light to fight against the Legion as its High Commander. During the Burning Legion's third invasion of Azeroth, Lothraxion was sent by High Exarch Turalyon to protect it.

According to the Prime Naaru Xe'ra, the vestiges of the Golden Army currently battle on the ruined Draenei homeworld of Argus. But they are losing, and as such have sent Light's Heart, the core of Xe'ra, as a last resort to Azeroth for it to be handed to Prophet Velen. Xe'ra is seeking the "child of Light and Shadow", Illidan Stormrage, to bring the battle to an end.

For millennia, the Army of the Light waged battles, skirmishes, and sabotage against the Burning Legion. They all knew they might not survive their final assault on Argus. The Army of the Light's flagship, the Xenedar, crashed on Argus's surface, and the resident Krokul saved Turalyon's life. More members of the Army of the Light are encountered at the crash site of the Xenedar, and they proceed to aid Azeroth's forces on Argus.

Typo near the top: "Agrus"

Comentario de blissfire

Excellent! I've not been keeping up with much of the Argus news in order to preserve the surprise, so this will help immensely!

Comentario de wolfy77

Utterly superb guide. Thank you.

A question; is Argus to remain non flying like Timeless Isle etc? Would suit me, because anything's better than a gated process!

Comentario de AlaskanDruid

And the girl in the picture is ... which character?

Also, earlier 7.3 articles said we will be going to multiple planets, not just Argus. I hope this guide gets completed to include the other planets.

Comentario de Ranazox

Just a note, the Scythe of the Unmaker 3d model currently shows the windwalker monk artifact weapon, instead of the weapon that I will personally spend years attempting to get.

Comentario de Salmanella

"The Relinquished gear mentioned above is the greater one. It produces item level 910+ gear, and sold by Thaumaturge Vashreen for 650 per piece on the lower deck of the Vindicaar. For the first time, we can buy Relic tokens too!"

When I'm reading this maybe I'm not understanding it but as I read it you're saying there aren't 880+ relic tokens currently on Broken Shore? because there are, so it's not the first time relics are available.

Comentario de Magnognomus

Thanks for the great guide! Nice job. Now I'm ready to go...

Comentario de thorr69

Just a note that the quest "An Argus Reaper" is supposed to be "An Argus Roper"

Comentario de Jerry235

does anyone know if these "rares" will actually be rare, unlike all of the "rares" on the broken isles/shore. The rares shown drop toys or pets or mounts of some kind, and it would be good to know if the mounts aren't 100% drop perhaps, or are we in for another TLPD camp, or perhaps blizzard just is giving away some mounts/toys from argus "heads"

Comentario de 1461775

Great guide, thanks Voxxel!

Comentario de FTLNewsFeed

You should include a warning with Orix, that once you are transformed you will become hostile to friendly npcs and so you can't use the Hope's Landing and Veiled Den beacons without being attacked (though Illidan remains friendly, so at least he can see through your disguise, lol).

Comentario de Deletedyou

I'm not sure if its just me and everyone already knows this, but the current Vindicaar Matrix Core ability, Light's Judgement, was nowhere to be seen. I originally thought the ability would appear as a special action button like the abilities in Tanaan Jungle, but the spell is actually located in the general tab of your spell book, much like the Ritual of Doom ability warlocks get if they've chosen that particular class hall upgrade.
- Sorry if this is common knowledge, I didn't know and thought others wouldn't either.

Comentario de Megrrimar

legendary items can drop from treasures on argus..

Might be worth adding a section to the sideline quests about the small set of quests in the Petrified Forest?

I know this was one of them Un lacero de Argus

With the patch on 8/29/17 I've found a few changes:
- Orix el omnividente is still in the same location, but now acts as a vendor. His items are still the same prices above.
- You can now use Dádiva del omnividente and still travel by the flight paths available while under it's effects on Argus.

Comentario de JolietJerry

Great guide, thank you! Question: For the rare elites is the lockout reset with the morning reset each day or is it 24 hrs from when you last killed it?

Comentario de jodmos

You haven't got the Biletooth Gnasher as a mount drop from the rare Vrax'Thul in Antoran Wastes.

Comentario de BBandika

Thanks for the guide! Nice job!

Comentario de Elitecookie

I've killed 15 rares on Argus, none has dropped anything except 15 mill AP items, 20-40 Veiled Argunite and some junk worth 10G.

Am i EXTREMLY unlucky or is this normal? If it's not, im fkn suing Blizz. Tired of this ridiculous RNG crap.

Design List: Argus Crowns – Engineering

not to nitpick, but i'd like to point out that the Empyrean Crowns are a JEWELCRAFTING design, not an ENGINEERING schematic.

Blessing of the Righteous + 10% damage done

also, the buff is a +10% haste (for 10 min). the link shows this, but your description says +10% damage done.

Comentario de Zebz

Doesn't mention that rare spawns can give leggos

Great guide, I'd like to ask what are the requirements for Argus Emissaries, if you have already done the Storyline on one character? I was able to do World Quests in Antoran Wastes, yet the Argussian Reach WQ's were not available.

I also did the Storyline on Alliance character, and tried doing the Emissary on my Horde alt (same account, another server).

Comentario de nearlysober

A couple more noteworthy drops from Rare Elites that aren't on the above list:

Slithon, el último can drop: Sedal de pesca antiguo

Vigilante Kuro & Vigilante Thanos can drop a toy: Generador de barreras

Comentario de AliciaAthena

I can confirm the treasure chests do drop legendaries. I just looted N'ero, banda de promesas from an Eredar War Supplies chest!
I am so hyped since my luck with legendaries drops always been terrible.

Amazing guide! Very detailed! Keep it up

New 110 easiest way to get to Argus

Talk to Kadgar at Krasus Landing and complete Armies of the Legionfall
Accept Assault on the Broken Shore and take the port to the Broken Shore, Complete Quest
Open your Adventure Guide and find 'Argus: The Hand of Fate' quest now there for you
Fly back to Dalaran take port to Stormwind/Org and goto ports to start the chain

Done.

Any advice for someone with a boosted character for this?

unlocking Void Elves seems to be not worth the effort at all.

So, getting back to WoW with BfA and jumping back into things. Wanted to go back and unlock the races, but was stuck somewhere in the middle of these quests and couldn't figure out which one. Loved the scripts in Voxxel's Tiragarde Sound Levelling Tips, so copied those scripts and came up with the following three scripts to tell you what has been completed and not: (limited to 256 characters)

The Assault Beigns:

Comentario de Rhaennon

Does anyone know what to do after Sizing Up The Opposition

Comentario de Derpinpug

Thanks for keeping this guide up to date. My wife and I followed it to get the required achievements to unlock the Alliance elf/draenei allied races. Note to others using this guide to unlock the races: The most important part is the tabbed section under "Story Campaign" that lists the chronological quest lines that make up the three legs of the You Are Now Prepared! achievement. If the quest isn't in one of those lists, you don't have to do it. (This includes dungeon, raid, and scouting map quests available during the campaign.)

Comentario de kuruma

If you're max level, coming from the Shadowlands expansion and having trouble finding Archmage Khadgar for the initial Uniendo las islas quest.
I used my Piedra de hogar de Dalaran to port to the Legion version of Dalaran instead of the Shadowlands Northrend based Dalaran. Darn you Dalaran portal in the mage's tower in Stormwind.

Comentario de raeyna

FUN FACT. The city of Dalaran is located in 2 different places. If you take the portal from stormwind that actually SAYS Dalaran, you won't find Khadgar. He's at Dalaran Island, which is in the broken Isles, East of Aszuna, not in Northrend. I can't even tell you how confusing that was to figure out.

Comentario de Phasha

Fear not as you read the opening quest requires you to complete the entire "Broken Shore intro scenario". If you have already done it on your main, you can skip the long scenario and get it done in a minute:

Accept Ejércitos de Legión caída from Khadgar at Krasus' Landing.
It leads you to Asalto a la Costa Quebrada. Once you accept the quest, speak to Khadgar again to skip the scenario.
Complete the quest Asalto a la Costa Quebrada.

Now the opening quest to Argus, La mano del destino, should be available to you in Dalaran. Speak to Khadgar in the Violet Citadel to begin the Argue quest chain.

Comentario de Uddk

Not that it will mean anything to anyone else but I heard the term ARGUS 50 plus years ago...it was an acronym...Aerial Reconnaissance Ground Unit Support...Helicopters used by Los Angeles County Sheriff
