A new archaeology race has been added in Patch 5.2. There are 10 new Mantid solves and 17 new achievements.

Archaeology Improvements

You get six digs at a Pandaria digsite.

The resulting item is not a white that turns into vendor trash. Instead, it is turned into a crated box--which stacks!

There are several daily quests tied to Archaeology which award Puntos de valor, like Desenterrar el pasado.

Completing a dig site will sometimes spawn an Ancient Horror, a sha that drops Fragmento de arqueología mogu.

The tooltips for completed objects now helpfully point out that there's more lore in the Archaeology Journal. A common complaint in Cataclysm was that most players didn't know about this.

Mapa del eremita: Use: Randomizes your Archaeology digsites in Pandaria. (30 Min Cooldown)

Magnetita del eremita: Use: Teleports you to a random active digsite in Pandaria. (30 Min Cooldown)

Localizador acústico mántide: Use: While this item is on your person, any new digsites you discover in Pandaria will be of Mantid origin. Lasts 1 day. Found inside Kit de cazador de artefactos mántides as of 5.4, which also contains Mapa del eremita.

Boxes of archaeology fragments for each race have been added. You can turn in Artefacto restaurado for a crate containing between 5-9 fragments and possibly a keystone. All of these crates require 600 skill.

Lanza de Xuen: BoA heroic-quality ilvl 463 staff.

Many new achievements have been added to archaeology in Mists of Pandaria.

Achievements have been added for solving all common artifacts 5, and then 20, times. (Coleccionista: tarros de boticario, Coleccionista: tarros de boticario)

Players with max-level archaeology can turn in Artefacto restaurado to Brann Bronzebeard for crates of other fragments like Cajón de fragmentos de arqueología enana. This will slowly help players chip away at unsolved items from Cataclysm.

Players can also turn in Artefacto restaurado for Magnetita del eremita, Mapa del eremita, or Localizador acústico mántide.

Artifacts in PandariaNew Fragments

There are three new types of fragments, representing three major factions in Pandaria: Fragmento de arqueología pandaren, Fragmento de arqueología mogu, Fragmento de arqueología mántide. The new keystones are Fragmento de cerámica pandaren, Trozo de estatua mogu, Esquirla de ámbar mántide.

50+ fragments are needed for common solves.

Common-quality solves give +3 skill.

Mogu and Pandaren solves are obtainable at 525 skill, Mantid ones require 600.

Pristine versions of all artifacts are available: Moneda mogu prístina.

Alimentador de savia antiguo/Alimentador de savia antiguo prístino: The mantid prefer to age Kypari sap before consumption, and they use devices such as these for the process. You can see from this ancient example that the design has not changed very much over time.

Estandarte del imperio mántide/Estandarte prístino del imperio mántido: While the mantid do use windwool and imperial silk, their preferred material is a type of "fabric" fashioned from the wings of various insectoid creatures - including themselves. This banner is an example.

Baliza de sonido inerte/Baliza de sonido prístina: The technology behind mantid sound beacons is incomprehensible for non-mantid races. They seem to rely on mantid physiology. This ancient beacon, while intact, is completely inert without mantid to interact with it.

Contenedor de savia kypari/Contenedor de savia kypari prístino: This container, though amber in color, is actually made from kunchong secretions. This is true of many of the more mundane pieces of mantid furniture.

Lámpara mántide/Lámpara mántide prístina: The glow from this lamp is neither from fire nor magic. Inside, you can see many glowing insects preserved in amber.

Recolector de polen/Recolector de polen prístino: It is difficult to discern the purpose of this object, but it seems to be a pollen collector of some sort.

Mántide religiosa/Mántide religiosa prístina: This Klaxxi'va statue dates back almost to the arrival of the Titans. Inscribed around the base of this statue is a prayer to "the seven headed one". The word "klaxxi" meant "priest" in the old tongue.

Restos de un dechado/Restos de un dechado prístinos: Apparently the amber preservation process is not without risk. Only the head of this paragon remains. It appears to predate the pandaren revolution, although pinning down the precise era is impossible.

Bad Archeology Changes

• #1 Blizz has added 1 second to the CD of survey (giving the ‘that item is not ready yet’ warning) costing us more time when trying to quickly narrow down a red survey. Why a survey should have more than a 1 second CD is certainly a mystery anyway – are we getting a more powerful cast / lol.
• #2 they made the distance of a green survey longer. Now you can NOT be basically guaranteed a discovery when surveying at 5 ‘paces’ or ‘yards’ after getting a green.
• #3 an orange survey is now less accurate, it no longer yields a straight path to a discovery.
• #4 you need to be closer to get an actual discovery to show now. I’m not positive about this, but the distance here seems to have been narrowed slightly – again causing more surveys.

These may seem like petty changes, but when all combined they are adding significant unnecessary time to this profession. (BTW, this seems to have occurred circa 5.0.5.)

Although I can only conjecture, perhaps this has been done to ease time pressure on crowded cross realm servers by keeping people out of congested areas.

I’d highly recommend pulling a ticket and pointing out that your game is no longer working as it had been and should be working. We are paying for playing time, not waiting time.

Also worth sharing that the skill level at which digging continues to give you archaeology skill increase has gone up, I believe you can now dig upto level 225 before you have to start solving artifacts. So for the early levels just dig the fragments and once you hit 225 start creating artifacts.

Remember also there is a Darkmoon Faire quest for leveling if you have fossil fragments.

will there be a 6.0.3 update soon? as it seems that there is no progression past 600 that i can fine, when all my other profs are now 700...
