People are wildly misconstructing what the devs are saying.
He said that the plan is to have no flight at shipping and then see how it plays out. At NO POINT has he said that the plan is to have no flight at all and no new flying mounts.
Personally, I don't like it. I'm all for not having flight during leveling, but once I'm at the cap, I wanna fly. As it is I suppose I can take my lumps and have no flight during 6.0 but if they seriously tell me that on Draenor we are
NEVER
going to fly, that's gonna make me unhappy.

I doubt that there will be no flying at all; Blizzard remembers the days of Vanilla and knows that now that we've tasted the fun of flying, there will be a revolt if it never returns. And of course, that means less mounts to give us.

What they're doing, is having no flying when you hit 100, and then see what the player reaction is. Then, they'll either change their minds, and allow flying as soon as you get to 100, or stick to their guns and hold off until 6.1. That's all.

Pretty much as has been said, exploring on foot is fun once, after that let me fly.
Flying is good. It's a great reward for hitting the level cap and encourages you to explore places you otherwise wouldn't.
The only genuine downside is how it murders WPVP. If you've made the choice to be on a PVP server then you should be at constant risk, not hover 50 feet above the action waiting for the Horde to get bored and leave so you can go and buy your gear/farm your mobs/whatever.
Fortunately there's a simple solution - give every class a dismount attack. It should have a nice long range so you'd have to fly really high to avoid it, and something like a 3 to 5 minute cooldown so you couldn't just run around dismounting people right left and center.
If there was a lot of you you could probably focus one player enough to keep them on the ground, but otherwise people could still escape if they wanted to after a kill or two. What they couldn't do is sit and flap there 50 feet off the floor for ages, drinking tea.

I really like flying, but I also really like exploring the content and this brand new world my characters have never seen. MOP's flying block until max level was perfect. I couldn't be lazy and just fly from point A to point B, I actually saw the content and experienced it. Leveling up my alts is pretty boring now since the magic is gone and I just want to max them out.
Honestly, if we lost flying it would be another hit against this game for me that would result in me no longer wanting to play. I don't want to have something that takes 1 minute to reach turn into 5 minutes because I have to run. It would make no sense to bar flying forever,
especially
since they just released another flying mount with the expack.
They're probably just going to wait and see when people are clamoring to fly again before they put it in. They may wait for the first patch or they may put it in at max level if enough people want it.

fine with no flying on first account character or server character to level to 100 (or if you level more than one at a time all characters until 1 reaches 100 through regular leveling, not the boost). And fine if that's for each faction. And fine for additional (6.1, 6.2, etc.) for one character to reach a particular set of achievements or whatever.
After that (100, achievements for 6.1, 6.2, and beyond) I I'd like to have flight to level alts.
Perhaps alt flight doesn't happen until an account/server has one 100 level character and Blizzard has started to nerf XP for leveling.
I like flying for exploring.
I'd like to have fly points be portals so that taxi flight time could stop being wasted, too. Just let us play the game. We'll explore as we want.

First off, I agree with the person above who said that most likely they'll just test this out until the first patch or so, and then probably bring flying back in, so this discussion is probably not really relevant.
That said, if hypothetically they removed flying from Draenor permanently, I would like it (and I say this only a couple of days after finally getting Ashes of A'lar, after farming it for nearly a year-- I love collecting flying mounts in general). No, I'm not just "looking back nostalgically through rose-tinted glasses." But I think a large portion of the community cannot be blamed for not liking it. A big chunk of the player base today came into the game for the first time when already bliz was accommodating to end-game and convenience. These people have no reason to expect Bliz to suddenly make you work for stuff-- work that to them will seem unnecessary and stupid. Possibly these people would not have liked that sort of thing in the first place, maybe they liked WoW because it didn't emphasize this the entire time they played.
Originally, World of Warcraft was about exploring a world. If it was solely about end-game now, there would be no reason to add an additional huge bunch of zones (Draenor) to a game that already had a huge world. Why add all this extra space if people feel that traveling through it is a pain and a grind? The curiosity you feel about checking out Draenor is the curiosity we once felt about exploring Azeroth for the first time. It is not just nostalgia, the excitement was real.
This game was not originally designed with the intent of every player making many alts; getting one character to max level was a big deal, and the emphasis was on the journey there. Of course, nowadays the focus had changed: the goal is to get to max level, and to try out a lot of different classes. In those terms, then, of course, leveling and questing through the same zones for every one of your dozen alts is a pain. But if the focus was on doing this, then why not just eliminate the 100 levels? Why not just start at max level, or even have everyone start at level 90 by default, so that players can focus on end game and on trying out all the different classes?
Yes, even after playing since 2004, I still like going to certain zones and just riding around. Sometimes I deliberately explore by foot because I like feeling immersed in the atmosphere. I've never tried an RP server, but isn't this something RPers like? Going to zones and 'living' in them?
But Bliz can't accommodate just to people like me, who genuinely like slowly exploring places, especially because half the community joined the game at a time when this was not what was happening in WoW and who see nothing attractive about it. So they haven't completely accommodated to this. Even if they did eliminate flying mounts from WoD entirely (which I don't belive they will in the long run), they've done a lot in attempt to eliminate the grind, what with NPCs in your garrison that farm for you, and of course the free 90 boost. I think this will just continue to foster the attitude that having to work for something is pointless and stupid, but if that's what half the population wants, who am I to say they shouldn't get it?

Just because flying is allowed, doesn't mean you have to use it. If you like slowly walking around exploring in old zones, knock yourself out. No one is forcing you to fly.
Take away the ability and everyone has to do it regardless if it's something they enjoy.

I find that I can enjoy the scenery more when flying. When I'm on a ground mount, I'm focused much more on keeping watch for mobs to avoid. I have found some beautiful spaces, particularly a couple of fishing spots off Jade Forest, that I never would have seen if I was restricted to land mounts only.

I remember reading something that blizzard posted that sad no flying until 6.1.
It doesn't matter we aren't able to fly until your 90 in Pandaria. I really don't see the issue it lets you better explore the landscape and find and discover things you normally would not see if your flying.
Actually, I'll go back on that now. If you watch the whole video (people provided transcripts on the wow forums), they're saying they are going to try out WoD as a no flying place and see how people react to that. Adding that they hope people will come to like no flying at all. A few people are getting refunds over their pre-orders of WoD over this.

Right, based upon player feedback with no flying in 6.0, they would like to explore restricting flying for the entire expansion. If you're happy with that, provide your feedback when the expansion releases. If you're totally bummed out about it like me, same deal, feedback.
That feedback will determine whether we get to fly in 6.1 or not.

WoD at few weeks of the release: WOW! no flying, cool!...
WoD at few months of the release: No flying is ok, but sometimes i wish to reach a zone/dungeon/raid/town a little more faster.
WoD at 1 year of the release: PLZ Blizz! add flying, im tired of just walk, walk and walk... QQ
