Best Race for Mage?

I'm finally rejoining World of Warcraft after nearly 2 years. :D and I plan on making a new character, considering how different things are.... It was a pretty tough choice, but I'm pretty sure I'm going mage. I was thinking rogue for the regeneration bonus (helps out at lower levels, considering mages are glass cannons) but its been a long time since I played, so any senior players willing to give me some advice? Thanks!

The racials have little effect on how well you dps. Its better to pick the race you like playing with. Now these are my opinion, I'm sure if you want to see exact vaules that they are listed somewhere like EJ. For the Horde side Goblins and Trolls are the best for PvE thanks to the 1% haste for Goblins and the mini BL for trolls. For the Alliance I would say Draenei are one of the better ones thank to their 1% hit.

Now if you plan to do PvP Humans are probably the best one thanks to their racial which allows you to get a good damaging trinket. For Horde I would say Orcs work well.

I play an Undead mage as I love the way they look. They also have a decent PvP racial with Voluntad de los Renegados.

Thanks, and to any mages here, is it fun to play a mage? My hunter was a lot of fun, but when I played my shaman it felt like a chore.

Really, the only other class I have been considering is a Shadow Priest because I never enjoyed being a healer but Arcane Mages do 12k-13k DPS on Average and Shadow do 8k-9k DPS on average last time I checked...

Haha skull level rogue. Love that. Thanks everyone, and I'm probably going with troll, forsaken or blood elf. I like Troll mounts/environment, I like Undercity/Skeletal warhorse, and I like Silvermoon and how blood elves look (hawkstriders... not so much)

Average on what? Which level?

The reasons you get these results is because as faceroll mage ab spam you do more damage than any other dps would do, while if you try to do the same thing with shadow priest you get very miniscule results. Reasons your "results" have nothing to do with real capabilities of these classes in pve environment - they are contamiated with kids facerolling the spec and leeching.

At 85 with good gear, according to maxdps.com
Of course that is just 1 possible rotation. There are thousands of others.

If I go mage i'm def doin Arcane for PvE. If I make a priest, then Ima try healing and then if i dont like it ima just pay the 1 gold and make him shadow. But a serious question, is playing a mage fun?

Pick the race you like playing with was good advice. If you are the casual wow player it doesn't really matter. Raiders and PvP players have different advice, but it all comes down to what YOU enjoy anyways.

Goblin is nice on the horde side for the extra haste, even troll has some benefits for pve.
Undead, BE and Orc have some nice qualities for pvp.

I can't really give advice for alliance, other then - roll horde =)
