For all you hunters out there. If you got above 450 range AP, you can so solo kite this guy. (My hunter was 54 at the time) You might need a few mana potions to be able to get some good dps on him but its possible.

I got him Morgans Vigil, where the FP is in Burning Steps. Then turning him around and started heading to Redridge. Kited him through Redridge all the way to Elwynn Forest. Right as I entered Elwynn he dropped and I got 1.5k rested XP. <Dont forget ur aspect of the cheetah>.. Also this guy does cast a flame crack. When he does, make sure you turn around and lay as many shots on him as you can before he starts running for you again. :D happy hunting.

If you are warrior, rouge, or someone that needs to get up close to attack... you can not do this by yourself (unless totatlly twinked) at 60 or below... hunter and other classes can kite but my warrior needed help, healing potions, and use of retalation to kill this guy.

Just solo'd as 58 NE spriest. Typical Mind Blast/Flay. Vampiric Touch/Embrace. Keep your shield up and when he casts just use that to put some distance between u.

Can be rooted, just soloed as 57 Moonkin. had to use a mana pott and innervate tho. just hit him with starfire and wrath and then root him. keep Insect swarm up on him too,I didn use moonfire because of the mana cost.

Soloed this mob as a 58 hunter :) He moves slow so his easy to kite, and sometimes he stops and cast some fire spell, then i stopped and shot him twice. Was rested so i got 1474 xp

Did him as level 61 Fury warrior. My gear is some blues, some greens, mostly from outland. He did hit hard, but he was easy as he was fearable (int shout + bandage) and his fire attacks could be pummeled. No sweat at all, but I guess he might be a pain for other classes.

Solo'ed him tonight, lvl 64 Unholy Death Knight. Was very easy for my lvl and dropped the Volcanis Hammer plans. Found him by Dreadmaul mountain, you can't miss him as he is hugh.

Just killed him on my lvl 60 Arms warrior with half Outland gear. The fight was pretty tough. He kicked me back with his spell and I got 2 adds who finished me off a second after I landed the killing blow on him^^ Got some useless gloves but it was fun:)

This creature is nice for the BS recipe. Though its green, On my server it sells somewhat fast at 10 - 15G. Easy to kill him and grab it while mining for ore or questing.

Stumbled across him today while doing Midsummer Festival achievements. Easy kill at lvl 80 and he did drop the plans.

He's fearable, so this mob is relatively easy for a warlock as long as you keep your distance. Soloed with Warlock at 56.

Solo'd with 56 ret pally. Use your stuns whenever you can, heal and Exorcism during the stun. Make sure Divine Shield is on cooldown you might need it. Whenever he casts Fire Nova or Flamecrack get out of melee range immediately. Heal yourself whenever Art of War pops. I recommend Fire Resist Aura but Devotion might help with the big melee swings. if you are just following him and if you people ever try to click on the slash on the top right hand side of your keyboared. he is usually on the road so if he kills you just keep going straight and fallow the road or fear him (if you can).

If anyone cares to this is how i found him:

I was walking around dunemaul rock and i found him walking. i clicked on him and saw he was a rare but a lvl 60 elite rare. i was waiting for my friend to come so i was fallowing him so when my friend was right around the corner an alliance came and killed him i got so mad

Soloed this guy on my 56 ret paladin just giving some useful info.

- Put on a weapon and shield on (for his melee hits)

- Put up fire resist aura. ( for his flamecrack and fire nova of course )

- Keep kiting him around circular, if an add interfereres, keep kiting around circular but killing the add. (then back to boss once add is killed.

- Btw you can repentance and hammer of justice him, so if your low on HP repentance him and flash of light yourself a couple times.

- If you see him casting flamecrack or fire nova, you wont need to worry because your kiting him circular, so while your kiting him circular you can just run away from him (if you see him casting one of his casting abilities)

i just soloed him on my level 56 druid. was easy, except for his "flamecrack" ability which knocks you back and does a fair chunk of damage... when you see him casting it try to get out of its range.

got one green cloth item and a green blacksmithing recipe.

Shamans can kite him with frost shock while disrupting his occasional fire spell. Takes a long, LONG time to do so though. Kind of fun to walk him around Burning Steppes once you get the hang of the timing...

Just solo'd him as a 56 Paly. Used heals on art of war procs and ate every single one of his spells. He does have a lot of HP.
He dropped the blacksmith patterns and some lame boots.

He looked so much more promising as far as what his loot table could have been.

Soloed as 56 shadow priest. Put all dots up, shielded and went in. He tends to cast flamey knockback and fire nova right after which hit very nastily on cloth, forcing to use potion. He however isn't immune to fear, so soloing him wasn't too difficult.

Has this mob been removed from the game post-Shattering? The spawn pins on the map indicate that they haven't been updated since 4.0.3a. If he has been removed, then Plans: Volcanic Hammer would become a rare collectible.

Volchan was removed in the Shattering but was brought back in patch 4.0.6.

He patrols underneath the Blackrock Mountain bridge in the Lava, where the earth elementals are.

Volchan nowdays is a pushover. The Obsidian Elementals that patrol around the lava pit will be more painful because of their 20% spell reflect chances.

Does anyone know the respawn rate on this mob? I've been farming the plans for some time now but since the spawn rate is unknown to me its been kinda troublesome.

Finally found him and decided to camp to see how long the re-spawn timer was. He came back after about 3 hours. No recipe either time but was happy just to see him. Good luck!

Soloed as a level 50 monk, pretty easy, used Touch of Death after not even a minute, so I kinda two shot the elite. Quite easy to be honest.

I believe this huge ass lvl was kited over to redridge mountains all the way to weapons merchant. my brother (lvl 18) died multiple times. He believed horde were to blame for it.

He is very intimidating, but to a fairly well geared frost mage he's definetly soloable. not happy with the loot drops though. should be better being he is a 60 rare elite.

for some reason i just couldnt solo him with my warrior. I was doing fine till he hit me with his fire blast thingy he does which did like 1200 dmg. So I just logged my lock and killed him easily

He seems no harder than the Stone Guardians in Un'Goro, only a bit quicker. As a druid, rooting and moonfire/starfire does the trick anytime.

Okay, I am a level 59 shadow spec priest, and this guy was a little hard for me, I got by with MAYBE 100 life left, and no mana. I just went in, tried to keep him feared but the cooldown on our AOE fear is horribly long time in a fight like this. In the end, a very lucky dodge that would have killed me saved my life and made it so I could beat him. Not easy to solo as a priest, but it is possible. Good lucky to all.

I saw Valchan today. lvl 60+ rare spawn. He looks just like Magmus, or Bael from Black rock deaps. My group and I did kill him. We had a 58, a 57, a 55, a 54 and a 56. He dropped an epic weopon. I forget what it was called... it was purple and it was a two handed sword.

Soloed with a 56 Frost mage. Just used water elemental for extra DPS and kited him with frostbolt using COC if he got too close.

Soloed with my 57 demo lock - just demon sac. felhunter and then fear kite him around. easy!

Only problem is he kept going into evade, so make sure you don't fear kite him too far away from his set path or whatever

Me (44 Druid) and my buddy (56 Hunter) were farming leather when we ran into him. Completely wiped us. We're the special kind of stupid that we went back after him. 5 times. Kept getting wiped. His pet is fire spec'ed and the big problem was that he peeled off his pet just using regular arrows. Once or twice I peeled off just healing (Resto spec'ed even). He is one BMF. We're planning on hitting him again in 5 levels.

He's a 60 elite. Has a stomp AoE for around 1100 damage that hits pretty far. Outside of that he's melee. We figured that bringing along a mage for ranged DPS would have made a difference. Probably just longer until we all died, but a difference nonetheless.

Soloed him as 52 affliction warlock. Dragged his ass to Stormwind, where a lvl70 rogue helped the last 40%hp, just before the guards would have attacked him(or would they? not sure).

Anyways, he didnt drop anything, it was my loot, but he didnt drop anything..? Am I to low lvl to get a loot, or whats up with that?

edit: I tried again, just to check. I got him down to atleast 43% this time, I check it before I went to the guards. They helped, and I got the loot, the pattern, and a lvl55 chest thing "of the bear". ..hehe, I even had to fraps it this time. :) going to put the raw vid on youtube

edit2: Killed him again(still 52lock) got the plans again, and a pair of plate gloves lvl55 "of the bear"

I see a pattern emerging. Plans every time, plate every time, "of the bear" every time.

..I'm hoping for some cloth "of the eagle" or "shadow wrath" or something, but time will tell.

Was questing tonight and almost ran right into him. Didnt think I would be able to down him but tried for the heck of it. Sent pet, popped BW, rapid fire, put heals on pet, took him way down to maybe 25%. Pet died, I kited him around the rest of the way. Had to drink a pot cause I was impatient and had burned everything when pet was alive.

Soloed him today as a 61 Warrior in crappy early Outland gear. Found him wandering in Burning Steppes. Just make sure you Shield Bash his casts. Dropped some trash green pants. Meh...was fun anyways. Now you know he is easy to kill :p.

Soloed as a lvl 56 frost mage after he caught me offguard near Dreadmaul Rock. Difficult, but not impossible. I noticed he resisted much more than a creature 4 levels higher normally would.

Somebody just kited this thing to Goldshire today. I was on a lvl 10, and only realized he was there when the ground started shaking. It was great. :D

I bumped into this guy on my lvl 60 feral druid, so i thought i might as well have a crack at him. Id just met a priest so i had more stamina and resistance to shadow damage.

The first time i got him down to 2% health and i had 5 combo points lined up up for ferocious bite, he got a critical hit on me and i died :(.

I tracked him down again and got totally owned. Ofcourse i didnt have the buffs from the priests but i didnt even get him down to half health. I kept going back to him but i never came amywhere near as close as the first time to killing him.

I guess i must have just got lucky the first time because two buffs from a lvl 43 priest cant have made that much difference.

64 arms warrior, killed this guy without too much trouble, and with crappy gear on. Watch out for his fiery stuff if you don't have fire resistant gear and are fighting melee.

Never got a chance to cast his spell, or hit me for that matter. Ended the fight with almost no mana and 85% HP (lifetapped). Dropped about 5g worth of greens though.

And he's not slow... he would often run out of range when chain-fearing.

I kited him from flight path to the BRM entrance, turrned back and he died in before the thaurissian ruins :) a walk in the park compared to Artorius in Winterspring :D

67 Affliction lock, no problem(Don't know what to tell u if it is a problem). Although didn't have my usual UI, prolly why my pet died, oh well. But the usual dose of dots, no fear and a drain life. Dropped the plans and a greenie cape. Never seen him before and I like to take screenies of rares I encounter. Maybe post them up on a forum one day. Any ideas on what forum? 8)

Is he rare? I've never seen him before, and I farm the Steppes for thorium quite a bit. Then today, bam, as soon as I come out of the vigil there's this freakin huge red giant comin at me. Easy for a 63 DK w/ permaghoul. Got plans for the hammer, adventurer's cape, and plans for thorium helm. Didn't see the Thorium helm listed in the loot table.

Solo'd as 60 Paladin in Lightforge/Soulforge and various other blues. Wish I had equipped some FR gear to begin with, but was OK with FR aura. I did, however, have to use Lay on Hands, bubble/bandage, and heal myself a lot. Downed him with a sliver of health and no mana left. He dropped the plans and a green plate belt.

I almost got this guy at 56 as an Affliction Lock, but the rule of my life held sway. I got him to 3k hp when he resisted a HoT and killed me, I went back, reformulated my plan, and tried again, but forgot the rule I mentioned earlier: If I can't do something on my first try, I will never do it. My new plan was perfect, and had gotten me through many fights, but for some reason I forgot to do it while I was doing it the first time, plan was the usual Afflock chainfearing, but throwing in an infernal to beat on him. The problem was I had already tried it, so it failed miserably, didn't even get the Infernal out before I was dead.

I've killed him twicw with a pally and today solo as rogue lvl 60 combat specced.
I had only 3533hp and i managed to kill him so he isn't that hard. Therefor not good loot mostly either. Have only got green drops yet. Nothing good really.

Since i grind that area i pick him aswell just in case he drops something good.

A level 56 hunter, a 58 warrior, and me, a 50 warlock killed him. He resisted most of my DoTs and killed the warrior but we managed to bring him down. Dropped a recipe and a helmet.

This is for sure an easy fight. At least if ur'e a hunter and got enough mana. Just dont waste alot of mana while ur pet is alive. Then u wont have enough for the kiting ;) Too bad the loots from him suxx.

Found him when I was collecting ores, soloed as a 64 Holy pally, only had to heal once and didn't even use FR aura. Dropped a lvl 55 mail chest piece, the volcanic hammer recipe and an essence of earth, pretty good kill.

Ran into him farming for Thorium and took him out pretty easy with my 62 warrior. Got a green and some other stuff. Wasn't bad. Sold the green item for 8gold on Uther.

I have 5/8 NS and 3/8 BF currently equiped with perditions and brutality blade. he is stunable and hits for roughly 300 to 500 damage. He has a fire shield that does 50 to 100 damage per tick depending on your FR. I didnt have any FR on when I killed him. He dropped the plans elemental earth and some green plate legs of the bear.

Died miserably to him as a very well-equipped and well-buffed 55 enhancement shaman. I switched to mace/shield, dropped my totems, drank a couple of elixirs, gave myself well-fed, and pulled him. He three-shotted me. Suggest that melees avoid him unless you're of at LEAST equal level as he is.

He is walking around the moutain in SG. But kiters like me kite him down Redridge, Goldshire and end up in SW. I usually take him out around on the Redridge Bridge, since compared with before I have much better dps gear. :P HF anyway.

He is a pretty rare spawn, which makes him to hard to tag. Hes a pretty easy fight too, he has around 20-25K(its hard to tell exactly due to cosmos isnt perfect) but you can DPS him out easily. Make sure uyou have fire gear or or a fire potion because he does a 1000 damage fire attack to people with low fire res.

This guy is easy and has a pretty reliable spawn rate. I kill him 2-3 times a day as a 60 demo lock while I farm scales for my mount. Felguard usually gets down to about 70%, and I have drain tanked him without a minion once or twice, seldom come out of the fight under 65%hp. 9 out of 10 times I get the plans and 1 or 2 greens. Greens go for DE and plans are an easy 5g in AH now that EVERY blacksmith I know has a set.

Breaks the monotony of farming scales.

Killed him lvl 53 mm hunter, kited him down to redridge, hes damn fast so there was very little room for error, kept missing with my concussive shots etc, but luckly when he got close he would stop to aoe giving me a bit of room, got over the bridge in redridge and a lvl 70 pally picked him up and killed him :P, dropped the plans and some other green crap that i ded.

Me and a buddy kited him to eastvale logging cap, elwynn, on a high pop server so the lag screwed su in the end. (rotts would break and you couldn't tell, then he would teleport to one of us an start beating our heads in)

Volchan is one of my favourite mobs to kite. He's a slow runner and if he ever gets too close just pop the occasional concusion shot on him. Can easily kite him down to Lakeshire and either pull him past the lvl 65 guards and let them hack him up on the bridge or run him through the town and wait for a few lowbie alliance to join the fun. (Feigning and letting them cop the full agro is optional at this point)

Got kited to the darkmoon faire recently, it was funny to see Silas actually fighting this thing.

he's soloable but hits like a truck on his aoe fire around 1000-1400 and it stuns

used my 60 10/0/41 Mage had pet open with his attacks and I started in with Frostbolts till he got in range then had pet Frost nova and I kited away he hit me like 3-4 times with his aoe taking me to sliver of my life (considering I'm not the kiting type I rely alot of crit frost bolts)

definately soloable for range or someone with alot of health that can heal or heavy dps tanks

his aoe would kill lowbies left and right in ely forest though

dropped 1 plans of volcanic hammer and 1 random green and 1 grey item

he's a pretty uncommon elite this was the first time I saw him but I'd say it's not worth it for a less then 5% drop on 2-3 blues and a less then 1% drop on anything epic

though kiting him to farmers or lowbies would be funny though

I kited him into Redridge, but when he died I was not able to loot ("You don't have permission to loot that corpse"). He didn't leash and wasn't attacked by NPCs, so I'm not sure what went wrong. Anyway, I'd recommend just kiting him around Dreadmaul Rock if you want loot.

I also want to mention I don't know if anyone said it before but...

He also have a

*Fire nova ability which is dealing around ~540-550 fire damage with no resistances (AoE!), >(I only saw this from TBC, I don't think he has it in vanilla/classic era)<
*Fire shield ability which is dealing 36 damages to the attacker(s) with no resistances,
And the (as mentioned by the abilities tab):
*Flamecrack ability which is the deadliest of them all, dealing ~1250 fire damage (AoE!) but this is the costliest in term of mana for him (~about 1/4 to 1/5 of his mana).

As a recent hardcore player I had to experience these the hard way, many people underestimate him, but he is really deadly if you are not prepared!
