If you played Diablo II: Lord of Destruction you'd know that the "Stone of Jordan" was the biggest item in the game and was very rare ring. It was used more for currency then anything but was later exploited which destroyed the game.

My assumption is that they are continuing this legacy by bringing it back but instead as a staff which now will be a legendary item in WoTLK. I'm sure there is a meaning to why but I'm not quite sure. Would be great to know?

I'm not so sure that just anyone will be able to get this staff. It has a strange listing in its description. "Binds to account". Wonder what you'll have to do to get one...

edit: Just looked it up and answered my own question. From wowwiki.com:

Binds to Account is a new form of item binding to be introduced in WotLK.
The items have a golden hue in their text color and will scale with level.
For example: at level 1 a weapon may do 6 dps, while at level 80 the same item would do 120 DPS.
The items are listed as ilvl 1, so they can't be enchanted with high level enchants.

As for enchanting these items, they can only be the recipient of anything that you could put on a level one item. "

According to Blizz, each level's version is comparable to Blue-quality items of the same level; I suggest looking at the Blue gear available at the level in question.
Best part about the Heirlooms is that there's practically no reason to ever replace them, since they just keep getting better.

If stats will scale linear, at level 10, this staff will be much better than Staf of Jordan, which requires level 35. :o

If you're curious as to how this item scales down with your character's level (for purposes of twinking or general curiosity), you can use the LINK button at the top of this item page to link the item in-game: the WoW client will automatically scale the item stats down to your character's level for you. This works with all the other Heirloom items as well.

Steps in case you are unfamiliar with how to use Wowhead item links:

Is it just me or does it seem the cost of the PvP Hireloom items is a bit high compared to the PvE ones?

Even if you get 3-4 Stonekeeper Shards per boss, compared to 1 Badge per boss, you need to have wintergrasp under control, and still the price difference is more than a 1:3 ratio

Also why does this staff give +hit and the PvE version dosen't? Makes no sense.

Not a bad staff to use at 80 PvE wise (don't know about PvP). The 68 hit rating is good for people having a hard time hitting the hit cap to get into Naxx. Good filler until something better drops.

Well, I think Ill get this to my offspecc, even to my main (Feral Drood) but to my Tree of life form.. as it is almoust only weapon that gives resil and has hitrate (cyclone, roots) so as PvP you cannot get a decent staff without arena rating, this will go nicely =)
(and also, I have a mage and priest low lv alts. they can use it aswell) =)

My question is, If you get this enchanted on a lvl 80 char then send to a lower lvl char does the enchant stay?

I.E. If i get it enchanted wiht the 63 SP on my 80 hunters can i send to a lvl 1 mage and still use with the enchant

Quick question, you know how when you buy something with say emblems of conquest, you can resell them within 2 hours for a full, redemption, is this the same with heirloom items if you've sent them to an alt? In turn allowing a level 40 to run around on a mammoth.

Something that surprised me about this item is how hard it hits in melee at low levels. At level one I was melee swinging for 30-40 and critting for 60. Those are some huge numbers for any low level let alone a caster.

Ok, figured out what the deal is with GSoJ and FAP(Feral Attack Power). Since the formula for FAP = (WeaponDPS/55) X 14 then weapons with dps lower than 55 will wind up with 0x14 which is a Zero result for FAP. Since this staff doesn't give 55+ dps until level 60, no feral druid with this staff below level 60 will gain any FAP, only the stam/hit/spellpower/resil.

Once level 60 this staff will begin to add moderate ammounts of feral attack power as well.(On par with heirloom 1h melee mace/dagger).

Anyone know if this actually gives feral attack power for leveling feral druids? If you sort the items database by Heirloom with FAP (Feral Attack Power) this item shows up as having 799 FAP(*EDIT* @ LvL80*). However the tooltip and description listed do not show any FAP at all.

It is now possible to mail BoA items to characters of different factions, provided they are on the same realm.

For example, I just mailed the bloodied arcanite reaper from my alliance toon to a horde toon on the same server.

When comparing to the other BoA staff, Dignified Headmaster's Charge, this is not that great for casters doing PvE. This is more of a PvP staff.

As of 4.0.6 you no longer need to go to Wintergrasp or even be on a WOTLK or Cata account to get this item.

Heirloom PVP vendors are now in Stormwind and Org. They're grouped in the same rooms as you would buy PVP items for level 60-85 in Champions Hall in SW, forget the name of the place in Org.

You can also buy the PVE heirlooms in each city as well.

This is very useful if you're new to the game and do not have a level 80 or 85 character. Seems enough people complained about 80 and 85 characters being able to get heirlooms and destroying BG's that Blizzard actually realized it was very unfair to new players.

Wondering if this staff (with Resilience) would be better than Dignified Headmaster's Charge (no Resilience, but extra Crit) for a PVP caster twink (mage/priest) ... or the other way around?

I was just looking around to see if there was a weapon that would be better for my 40 lock. Although I haven't checked out what's available in a one hand weapon with off-hand, the stats I am getting on this at level 40 are +20 Stamina, +13 Hit, +13 Resilience, and +78 Spell Power. That seems pretty good to me even for PvE. I was also able to use Lesser Wizard Oil for an additional +15 intellect. I'll grab an enchant I suppose, but I think I am going to be using this for a while.

Heirlooms, the way they are now, absolutely suck and dilute the game tremendously. If there should be heirlooms, they should be an extremely long quest-line like those for the legendary weapons and no more than one heirloom per account. Or, better yet, let the legendary be the heirloom. <insert: did someone say...yada yada yada ...but now its lvl 90!>. What is the point of even doing dungeons? The auction house is full of items that get routinely passed over for these, dare i say, garments of communism. I say all this because i have all of the damn things, they ruined the game for alot of ppl i used to play with, vastly o/p, made with zerg in mind, should have inferior stats to any blue and by all accounts should b less than the avg green at that lvl, I never wore mine just bot them to have them. Long live vanilla and twinking and putting clefthide leg armor on ur petrolspill leggings and stacking elixirs, no xp in bgs, and deadman's hand, and the entire freaking scarlet set.<---they should really bring that one back.lol. peace.

As of 5.2, the Level 80 Heirloom weapons and armor can be upgraded to scale up to level 85

Cost is the original item and either Darkmoon Faire Prize Tickets, JP (for heirlooms purchasable with JP) or Honor (for PvP itemized heirlooms purchased with honor)
