Probably the highest priority item you can buy with your 25-man badges for plate tanks. Get it first.

Very high defence rating, which is useful to early plate tanks. Even past the "crit cap" defence is the best avoidance stat for tankadins and prot warriors and decent for DK tanks.

And finally, it's once of the best itemised TPS tanking pieces in-game, being one of only two items that combines defence/expertise/hit.

After the removal of bear armor multiplier from jewels, cloaks and weapons, this will be the best tanking ring in game for feral druids IMO. It offers a great combination of mitigation, avoidance and imba threat generation. And the best partner for this baby is the beautiful Gatekeeper from Sapphiron. These two rings enchanted with +24 stamina (I speak from my enchanter point of view) will provide the absolute best tanking combo.

i still fail to see how this provides even a marginal avoidance amount as compared with any other ring i've seen. this ring gives approximately a .88% total avoidance through miss/dodge which is pretty crappy... compared to a ring with pure agi or dodge. just my opinion, but bears should never rely on defense for avoidance unless they have like over 1200 agility and i'd say like 300 dodge rating. which isn't very feasible given current gear.

This ring, currently, has the highest Defense Rating, of all the rings in the game.

Considering how much our Defense Rating drops, as we "gear-up", this ring is a huge boon, to keep us uncrittable, without having to gem/enchant for a bunch of Defense.

Actually if you crunch the numbers titanium earthguard ring only gives 0.1% more avoidance than this piece.

Titanium Earthguard Ring
From the tooltip gives 0.86% dodge chance
Gives 5.08 defense skill -> 5.08x0.04x3=0.61% avoidance
----Total avoidance = 1.47% (+0.2% block chance)----

Signet of The Impenetrable Fortress
Gives 11.39 defense skill -> 11.39x0.04x3=1.37% avoidance
----Total avoidance = 1.37% (+0.46% block chance)----

After you factor in the diminishing returns you are likely to have at this level and the avoidance gap will be even smaller. So why not take the boost in threat + lower miss chance on taunts?
