Using these boots will cause you to drop any PVP flag you're carrying, as listed in the 2.4 patch notes:

Rocket Boots Xtreme and Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite will cause players to drop a PvP flag if used while carrying one. (Warsong Gulch, Eye of the Storm, and Zangarmarsh)

Also, these cannot be used in arena matches as of 2.4.3.

I have built these and tested them.

The buff lasts only three seconds but the effect persists slightly longer. The speed increase is much, much more drastic than that from the old Gnomish Rocket Boots (https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/item=10724) - a 300% increase for three seconds versus a 50% increase for twenty. They share a cooldown with the old Gnomish Rocket Boots but are completely superior: the overall distance gained is possibly slightly less but they have better stats, a more drastic effect, and a less dangerous proc. Bear in mind you can put your old boots in your engineering bag in the bank if you wish to hold onto them, as I did, in case Blue changes something.

The "backfire" referred to is this effect (https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/spell=39850) which causes about 300 damage to the user - trivial really.

Upon using the boots your speed will be immediately and vastly increased. You will retain full control of your character although a 300% speed increase takes practice to manage. At the end of the effect your character will execute a pirouette, spinning around with weapon extended. The effect appears offensive in nature but causes no damage.

I highly, highly recommend these, although the cost of mats is a bit expensive - expect to pay at least 250g.

As a warlock I have a few favorite uses for the boots. If I am fighting a rogue and he pops Cloak of Shadows, I can rocket away and get well out of range while he is nearly invulnerable, then run back and finish him off. I found them useful on the Mother Shahraz encounter in Black Temple for getting away from people affected by Fatal Attraction, and I suppose they'd also be useful for solo farming her trash. I always wear them in cities and indoor areas and use the boots to reduce my travel time.

They CAN be used:

Indoors/outdoors/in instances.
Independent of where you would be able to mount.
While dazed.
In BGs.

If you manage to gain the slow-fall effect from a Noggenfogger Elixer and rocket-boost jump from a high ledge you can 'helicopter' for quite some distance - your character will remain in the spinning animation for quite some time.

With minimal practice you can get from the Lumber Mill flag to the Gold Mine cliff-top in a few seconds :) ... Although if you're a Warlock like me you will lose your pet in the process :(

When a mage is sheeping you, use the boots so the dmg taken from boots breaks the sheeps :) works perfect

As of Patch 2.4.3 as being tested on the PTR currently, Rocket Boots will no longer damage the user upon malfunction, but rather stun the user for three seconds.

As such, the boots can no longer be used to break crowd control, and have a little more risk added to their use.

ive found a few uses in battlegrounds with this and slowfall
1. in arathi basin when you are running to mines from the horde starting area, if you time it jsut right you can jump from the bridge all the way to the mines falg and cap before anyone comes
2. in arathi basin you can slowfall/rocketboot from the lumber mill onto the top of the blacksmith, then jump into the chimney and distract the enemy while a rogue caps the flag (funniest screenshot ever)
3. at the begining of eots rocketboot/slowfall all the way to the flag and pick it up before alliance get close enough to attack you

i guess i could go take some screenshots of the eots one or somthing cool and submit eventually

Just jumped off the edge of Tedrassil (with xtreme lite and slow fall). Landed on the south end of dark shore, almost into Ashenvale.

Got a fatigue bar when flying across the veiled sea, but the bar disappeared before the timer ran out.

As of patch 3.3.0 in Arathi Basin:
- You can't Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite from Lumbermill to on top of Blacksmith/Farm anymore.
Blizzard blocked the roof off with invisible walls.

I know these make you drop the Warsong flag just like the swiftboots or the nifty stopwatch. But if you activate the stopwatch first and then grab the flag you get the speed boost while carrying the flag. My question for these boots: Can you grab the flag, carry it to the ledge by the graveyard and drop it, back up and then activate these boots and regrab the flag as you are propelled off the ledge?

Edit:I found out for my self by levelling up engineering for a family member and I will answer my own question. A mage used the nifty stopwatch then picked up the flag, took the flag to the edge of the cliff, dropped it, activated the above boots, grabbed the flag and rocketed off the horde ledge and used slow fall and landed on the other side of midfield in Warsong.

Another benefit of maxing out engineering as soon as possible, like 225 engineering at level 20, is the ability to have higher level enchants on your items. You can have 12 agility on a Parachute cloak, because the ilevel is high enough for the enchant.

Same thing with the rocket boots. I've put Icewalker and Greater Fortitude on them succesfully, which means they'll take any Wrath boot enchant you want to throw on them.

Now, imagine a level 50 Gnome (+15 racial engineering bonus) mage with Dual Noise Machines , Rocket Boots Lite, Power Amplification Goggles, and a cloak with Springy Arachnoweave on it. That's 63+63+47+36+27= 236 spellpower from those items alone. Add a bonus to the helm from one of the Libram quests (Constitution, Rumination), and you'd kick butt in dungeons or battlegrounds.

The enchant version of this (WOTLK), the Nitro Boosts have a greater duration (5sec) but a +% speed inferior.

For a comparison, (with a buff of 3sec with these boots), you cover the average same distance than the enchant.

I used these on top of the "Temple of Storms" in Storm Peaks and jumped towards Dalaran while chaining parachutes directly together using macros. I did not expect to make it to Dalaran, but to my amazement, i made it all the way past dalaran through dragonblight and landed very far out into the ocean, and barely survived the massive fatigue damage by flying speedily back to shore. One of my favorite wow moments ever.

Note that the aura effect from these boots is not cancellable, and can interfere with certain other movement effects, such as Levitate. Beware! Don't rocket off a ledge and expect instant Levitate!

(Nitro Boosts have the same interference issue, but can be cancelled in your Levitate macro.)
