Surprisingly, Fiend Slayer Boots, from the Chess event, may give most hunters better raw DPS than these. That's because Fiend Slayer boots have high hit rating and two sockets that can take epic gems. Due to the mathematics behind hit rating, it contributes more to hunter DPS than any other stat.

However, these have better armor and intellect, both of which can contribute to more time on target at full DPS, instead of bandaging or shifting to Aspect of the Viper or lying there dead. Also, the armor is transmitted to the pet, which means that the hunter might spend a bit less mana and fewer cooldowns on Mend Pet, again leading to more time on the target. (Note that a Shifting Nightseye in the Fiend Slayer Boots' blue socket gives them more stamina than these boots.)

Hunters sometimes have a problem with too much hit rating. After they reach 9% increased chance to hit, they do not miss raid bosses. For a hunter at or past this cap, hit rating is wasted. These boots are much more valuable for a hit-capped hunter.

Also, these boots have armor penetration, which gradually becomes more and more valuable as you get more of it. Eventually, it becomes more valuable than the hit rating.

Comparison to Fiend Slayer, socketed with a Delicate Living Ruby and a Shifting Nightseye:

Armor: +61 (+31, counting the agility)
Agility: -15
Attack Power: +32 (+17, counting the agility)
Hit Rating: -17
Armor Penetration: +105
Stamina: -4
Intellect: +9

The agility and attack power end up being worth about the same. In the end, it's a matter of which is more valuable to your hunter: Intellect and armor penetration, or agility and hit rating.

Tanzar's Trunk is opened by completing the first timed event in Zul'Aman.

You have 20 minutes to clear trash and the bear boss. If you do, Tanzar lives and opens the chest for you. If you do not make it in time, Tanzar is sacraficed and you do not get the chest.

the armor reduction stat applies to any physical attack, so yes ranged attacks

Sure, if they want to, but don't deny this is specifically Hunter loot. Agility is the primary Hunter attribute and gives more to the Hunter class than any other class. Also, Enhance Shamans focus more on raw AP, crit and hit, not to mention the fact Strength is not uncommon in their gear (not so with Hunters). Finally, if that wasn't enough, the boots are called ShadowHUNTER'S Treads :)

Just got these last about an hour ago...our enhancement shammy already had them so they went to me, would have liked some mp5 on them, but the armor reduction is nice so who's complaining?

enh shamans who take these should get shot in the neck. these boots are really terrible for enh shamans. and no, I'm not a hunter, I'm an enh sham myself.
These boots score a 109,94 EP value for shamans, which means they are just about under an heroic epic for shamans.

Anyone can roll - unless ur guild is so pro that they're doing dkp for ZA....

If there was an enh shaman in the raid then, he would have every right to roll on these pro boots, whilst there are better boots, these are quite good.(Vasjh/Teron boots ftw)

I'd prefer it though if Elemental shamen weren't rolling on these boots for the 2 days of the year when they go enh....

honestly, is it fair for the enh sham to roll on these when he can find soo much better? I know these aren't BAD for shams but give us @#$%^&*s a break. I play both classes and these aren't worth gipping some hunter.

got those today... usually i aint a pve guy but with the badge rewards coming up now, me and some RL friends just go and clear kara in 2,5 hours and ZA in about 3 hours, more for the badges then it is for the loot, rolled on this and won it from a shammy. I am full pvp gear now so i have the vindicators boots and if you look at those stats there arent bad either. could someone tell me wich one is better. I got surefooted on my vindicators and 12 agi on these so i think they are equal. anyone else wants to share his opinion with me?

First of all, I don't understand why most of the comments on Thottbot are arguing about who should be allowed to roll on loot. Come on. Who do you think seriously reads those comments and then goes to WoW and doesn't roll on an item because some poster said "only class X is allowed to roll on item Y"? Get a clue.

The post should have real information about the item. In this case, I (as an enh shaman) will post that these are a viable piece of equipment for the build. Yes, there are better pieces available, but it isn't something to be scoffed at and can very well be an upgrade. As a previous poster notes, pure AP/STR is the build's friend (the 66AP here isn't to be dismissed), but we also benefit from the AGI and AR on the piece.

I'm not sure what numbers the other people here are using, but the EP on this item for us is 142 under T5 weights (without BoK).

66AP*1 EP/AP + 26AGI*1.8EP/AGI + 105AR*0.28EP/AR = 142.2 EP
