If your guild isn't able to run Serpent Shrine Cavern or Tempest Keep, then this is the best wand you can hope to get without setting foot in a raid (at least for a Mage). Even with that in mind, the wand that drops off Magtheridon https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/item=28783 is only superior by +1 damage and healing.

This wand is best comparable to a Karazhan drop from Aran, Tirisfal Wand of Ascendency (https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/item=28673).

The only notable difference is that this wand provides crit while the Aran one has spell hit.

People on the PTRs are reporting that the stats on this have changed in 2.1:

NEW Version:
The Black Stalk - wand
150 - 279 shadow damage 1.50 speed 143 DPS
+9 Stamina
Equip: Spell Critical Strike rating by 10.
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by spells and effects by 19.

Old version:
156-291 damage, 1.50 speed, 149 DPS
+9 Stamina
+9 Intellect
Equip: Spell critical strike rating by 12
Equip: damage and healing by 13.

Lose 2 crit, lose 9 int, lose 6 dps. Gain 6 damage from previous.

Very nice wand indeed. After patch 2.1 it has even 4 Spell damage more than the Tirisfal Wand of Ascendancy which drops of Aran in Karazhan. As a spell damage freak i need to get it.

Remember that the drop rate now is increased since end bosses in heroic level instances always drops an epic item, except the gem.

The Illdari Rod of Discipline obtained through the Netherwing faction quests with a Glowing Nightseye has the same spell damage and 5 more stamina, though less dps and you lose the crit strike rating.

People looking for a wand that is attainable without raiding should also check the Carved Voodoo Stick, which is obtainable for 25 badges of justice. It is slightly more useful for affliction warlocks, as it has more +damage when socketed with a runed living ruby.

Very similar to Tirisfal Wand of Ascendancy, only difference is crit rating instead of hit rating. Though heroic underbog is certainly no joke, it isn't as hard as Shadw of Aran. Very nice wand if you can get your hands on one.

players on thottbot said they ran 40 times, a bit unbelievable, but this is wow, anything is possible. I've run it my self 7 times now, still not one drop.

on thottbot btw, it says 71 kills, 1 drop here on allakazam it says 12 / 236, which is 5% droprate. boohoo. fak blizzard

Dropped a couple of nights ago, BE Warlock won it and he's real happy now. Our group breezed past this instance, only took about a little under an hour. I was surprised, 3 epics dropped in here. Some item the tank got, and a Meta gem that nobody could use. Unfortunately The Black Stalker isn't the easiest boss in here :(.

By looking through the PTR forums, it seems that this wand is getting a change in the upcoming Black Temple patch (undocumented, so subject to change). I think the wand is getting a ~-6 dps nerf, a -9 intellect nerf, a -2 crit rating nerf, and a +6 (amount?) dmg/healing buff. Overall I think it qualifies as a nerf, but still pretty good. Again, these changes are undocumented, and I only got it from the PTR forums, so don't quote me on this.

Finally got mine today. It was my 17th run, and the worst grind I've had to make for a piece of gear thus far. This instance is hit or miss, and depending on group make up, it can really make things difficult. Luckily I ran with a Druid, (Tank) Priest, (Holy) Hunter, and Rogue. In other word, no rolling! Can't say how happy I am to finally get it.

The only bad part about this wand is that it doesn't give as much crit as the nexus torch nor as much mana. And for mages with mind mastery, you only give up 9 dmg for +2.21 more crit rating (or higher depending on talents) and the extra mana. +crit kills in pvp, not +dmg. :/

Additionally, the plus dmg is far more insignificant on a crit strike (which is the point of stacking crit gear) as its less of a percentage of the total when you do crit strike. This is even more the case for mages with +crit dmg bonuses which are applied to base dmg only and not your gear dmg. IMO its a toss-up.

The Black Stalk vs. Nether Core's Control Rod (dropped by Dalliah the Doomsayer in Arcatraz)

My question is that you gain 7 bonus damage, 1 stamina, and critical strike rating over spell hit rating, along with 27.9 damage per second. Sure, The Black Stalk is a little faster and has a little bit more damage, but if Nether Core's Control Rod is easier obtained, wouldn't it be "better?"

I currently have Nether Core's Control Rod on my mage, and I'm just wondering if it is even worth multiple runs for The Black Stalk when it doesn't really seem much better.
Advice please.

btw, we did it in record speed (same grp also went to SP heroic later on), anyways we had:

Holy-pala
mage
feral druid
hunter
and dpsing shammy, don't know the spec lol^^

(Tank had full t4 so that's why it went to fast.)

And to all of you that still needs it, keep the spirit up and go for it, 4 badges is good :P
aran drops a competeable wand though.

This dropped my first time ever running Heroic Underbog.

I'm a Shadow Priest; I was running with a Warrior Tank, elemental shammy, hunter, and holy priest. The holy priest didn't roll... not that it would've mattered, because I rolled 100. :)

I didn't even know it was in there... just a random, late-night PUG. I had resigned myself to never finding something to replace Wand of the Netherwing, one of my last remaining blues. Needless to say, I crit my pants.

Mages Warlocks and Shadow Priests are all legit DPS caster classes, however with Shadow Priests some people don't take you as seriously because you're playing as an off-spec. Still, Shadow Priests are invaluable to a raid, and although they might be smoked by a Mage or Warlock in terms of overall DPS, they definitely help those two classes causes with their debuffs.

The only two classes that are pretty worthless as DPS casters are n00bkin druids and elemental shammys(stick to PvP.) Don't get me started, but they bring little to nothing to a raid.

look at all the wands dps. This is just a bit better than doomfinger, the lvl 70 epic, meaning that this is the worst of the lvl 70 epic wands dps wise. If they revamped doomfinger for BC it would have to have like 230 dps lol

The Wand from the hero badges is pretty good but i have the black stalk on my shadow priest and i love it,the hero wand is better but i would rather use my badges on other thingsd than a wand... just my opinion.

My holy priest has this, won it in a group with no other clothies (after about 20 or so runs - wasn't counting because I wasn't really interested in it). I use it purely to poke warlocks and mages in shattrath to make them cry. (:

black stalk may be the lowest epic wand itemlevelwise... but

personally i think its better to have +0,5% crit than having, +4 sta, +6 sp dam and +15 int
