If you are buying Knothide Leather at the AH, buy these and join them together instead. Usually they go for ~5s each, which means one piece of Knothide costs 25s if bought this way, as opposed to outright buying the Knothide, which can easily go for 50-75s a piece. Plus, if you are early on in your Knothide foray, you can level up your leatherworking at the same time.

Great skill-up item for leatherworkers: 100 scraps make 20 knothide leathers, taking you from 300 to 310. You can then go on from there to make knothide armor kits, using some of the leathers you manufactured as well as direct skinnings.

Worked for me, so it didn't annoy at all.

If you can't find these on the AH and need the prescribed 100 to skill up your leatherworking, you are almost always better off farming the same mobs you would farm for Knothide Leather rather than grovel for them with low level corpses in Hellfire/Zangarmash. At level 90 the quickest path to scraps + leather is certainly the beasts of Karazhan just to the right of the entrance. Skip the spiders, round up all the bats and hounds and AOE them down. This will net roughly 2.5 stacks of leather per run and will almost certainly get you 100 scraps before you hit the 5-instance/hour limit. The run takes less than four minutes total and each mob often skins for 3-4 scraps or 2-3 leather.

Yes you need to be level 50 to learn from the Grand Master skinner, but you would also need at least 300 skinning skill to skin the starving Felboar in Hellfire Peninsula. Have been farming these with my lvl 55 lock and most Felboars in this area are 58-60+
still some failed attempts at 306 skill points.
