As en enchanter, this is one of the first essence you will use to enchant items, such as a +5 health on bracers. After this you will need other essence such as Greater Magic Essence.
This is also one of the few essences which can be bought from NPCs, others are created from disenchanting. As a 'basic' essence, you may still have to use this in higher level enchants, but in large quantities.
Easy to get, and most <lvl 30 items drop this when D/Ed. 20 usually sell for about 1g or less in AH, depending on the realm.

For those who are simply trying to level their enchanting up to a high level, start out by purchasing a couple stacks of this dust. I would say 5 stacks to start, but anywhere up to 10 stacks can be useful depending on what you want to skill up with. Generally you can expect to pay 75s-1.5g a stack from AH.

I found that the easiest way to aquire Strange Dust was through disenchanting items I can craft. I would buy several stacks of linen cloth at 15s each, craft Brown Linen Robes and then DE for 2-5 Strange Dust.

Six stacks of linen cloth = 90s. That creates 20 robes that DE for an average of 60 Strange Dust and sometimes Lesser Magic Essences.

Total savings anywhere from 1.35g - 3g.

I have been bidding on items in the AH that are under 10s and level 14 or better. DEing these produces 2-5 strange dust and sometimes Greater or Lesser Magic Essence. After spending about 1g on cheap greens, I can sell all the strange dust and essence to make a nice profit.

the easiest way to get loads is to have a jewelcrafter make you a load of solid bronze rings or buy them on the AH, as they are usually very cheap. they will DE into 4-6 strange dust each.

I find that a good way to get this, if you don't want to pay for mats from AH or don't have Tailoring, is to run through a low-level instance like RFC, WC, etc with a high-level main. If the high-level main has AoE, preferably a Paladin or DK but a Mage also works if you're sure that you won't die with him, then you can pull the entire instance and kill all the monsters with a mass AoE. Turn on autoloot, loot everything, and destroy all the junk. You should get about 20 greens every time you do this, and if you do it right it should only take you about 15 minutes to pull everything. Each item gives an average of around one strange dust.

If you do have tailoring, running through RFC if you're horde really helps since it gives all the linen cloth. You get greens and linen cloth to create greens = loads of low-level mats.

Well i simply buy 1-20 lvl items on AH and DE them. So far my ench has incrased 47 (0-47).
And i will do the same way untill it catches my own level.

Add.: I went down Ragefire Chasm and pulled all mobs there, and got so many items for DE xD

I'm 40 warlock and it was really easy with my curses and healtstones

If you want alot of theese, buy items that requires lvl 20 or go instances around that lvl. Disenchant them and you will get loads. Armor-items gives more than weapons.
Good adice for high-lvls that want to change proffesion.

This dust is sold in small quantities by most Enchanting Supplies vendors. Don't underestimate this as a valuable source of income as a starting character! Always buy out their stock and take it straight to the AH for upwards of a tenfold return on your investment.

An easy way to get some cash on a low level clothie.

Get Tailoring.
Get Enchanting.
Buy stacks of Linen Cloth for about 15-20 silver each.
Make lots of Reinforced Linen Cloak's and DE.
Sell the dust / essences you get for 20s per dust (19,95) and 50s per ess. (49,95)

This in bigger scale is a good way to get some gold for mounts / gear / recepies or whatever you want.

The easist way to farm these is just to DE Solid Bronze Ring and if you have another char with JC you can just make them by 4 bronzebar .
when you DE them you get between 4-6

It's worth nothing that you can level your enchanting from 1-75 simply by disenchanting items. After 75 you can no longer get a skill from it. But saving up your materials until you have gotten a fair bit of skill out of simply disenchanting is a nice way to jump start leveling this profession.

The absolute easiest way to get loads of strange dust without mucking about with disenchanting, dungeons, or the Auction House?

Create new toons or use your alts and position one in front of an Enchanting Supplies vendor in every major city that you can safely walk or port the alt to. Now you don't have to worry about the vendor cool down for strange dust and lesser magic essence. Make your rotation every 30 minutes or so on all of your toons and you'll be swimming in strange dust and lesser magic essence in no time. Now what? You have leveled enchanting high enough to not need strange dust and lesser magic essence anymore? Keep the alts there and continue the unending flow. This stuff sells like hotcakes on the AH. 10g or more per stack of 10 because people would rather buy it at a premium and blow through beginning enchanting in an evening instead of dragging it out for a week the usual way.

Don't have a profession? No problem! Try to farm from shadowfang keep! I gathered 2 stacks in less than 30 minutes, from 2 runs. You also get rare items which you will be using later for enchanting + you get a lot of linen/wool clothes!

I have found the best way to acquire these is through a low leveling crafting profession (i.e. Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, Tailoring, etc.). I have been buying Runed Copper Belts (10 copper bars for blacksmithing) buyout 22s each, and getting around 2-5 strange dust, and Greater Magic Essences

If it's late December and you are looking to create 奇異之塵, simply buy as many 華麗冬幕毛衣 as your budget and bag space can afford. Then disenchant them into 奇異之塵 and 次級魔法精華 . At 25 copper per sweater, I'm betting you run out of bag space before running out of cash.

Of course, this only works during Feast of Winter Veil the last half of December.

If you don't have a crafting profession to support you with mats to DE, then the best way to get Strange Dust is to farm Dead Mines (or I assume Wailing caverns for horde though I haven't tried it). It drops greens that DE largely into Strange Dust.

The only vendors that carry this are Enchanting Suppliers. They carry limited amounts, usually 2 - 3 pieces of it. You get it from disenchanting items lvl 20 and under I believe. If you have a Jewelcrafter just have them make Elegant Silver Rings. I got about 50 dusts from 12 rings.

Even though Thotbot details that these vendors have unlimited supply you can only buy a certain amount at a time. Presumably they will refresh after a set time and you can buy another set amount but you CANNOT buy infinite amounts in 5 minutes.

If you're looking to convert your 輕皮 into 奇異之塵, the 雕花皮甲手套 is the most optimal pattern.

For 3 pieces of leather you can generate 1-2 pieces of strange dust. That's a 2:1 conversion. In contrast. The next closest is the Fine Leather Belt with a 2.4:1 ratio.

This ratio can also help you calculate whether or not it's worth converting the leather into strange dust on your server.

One strange dust must be worth AT LEAST two pieces of light leather on your server to break even.
