Sweetness, now it seems that Maul will be increased by mangle, as the skill says...

Effects which increase Bleed damage also increase Maul damage.

In my tanking gear, thanks to Mangle and Rend and Tear, I regularly crit Maul for 1500+ damage.

It's monster super glue! I feel like a paladin. Even my newly-buffed ret pally guildmate couldn't pull hate off me.

In my DPS gear, it can crit for 2.5k.

Maul is much higher in my list of attacks now, and also adds some burst ability to bear form. If your Maul + Mangle combo crits you're looking at almost 4500 damage.

Ive found that maul is tons more threat than lacerate. Swipe is also more threat than lacerate for me, however i need lacerate for the increased damage on maul.

typically i do maul/mangle, lacerate. maul, and i might throw in a few swipes every now and then.

The old days of spamming lacerate x3 to 1 mangle maul when you have too much rage are over.

USELESS INFORMATION!

When 3.2 arrived, I made my cute bear black. I noticed that Maul still shows the transparent bear, which "comes out of me" as brown for some reason.

So, Maul (and the other on-next-melee attacks) will become an instant attack in Cataclysm, presumably off the normal GCD.
It will have a base cost, and consume extra rage (if present) for extra damage, like Execute or Ferocious Bite. Example numbers for Heroic Strike were 10 rage base, up to 30.

With great rage - comes great damage.

i was lookin on youtube for advice on my bear tanking and it seems that Maul is part of everyones single target rotation why is that if it hits more than one target?

Maul is a core offensive ability of Bear druids. At the cost of 30 rage, it is the most expensive ability we have. It's damage is not as high as Mangle's, though. Maul has a unique perk to it though, it is an instant attack. That means, you can use it independently of all your other abilities, whenever the specific cooldown of Maul ends, and it does not interrupt your normal rotation, composed of Global Cooldown abilities (for instance Mangle, Pulverise, Lacerate, Thrash, Feral Faerie Fire).

The cooldown of Maul, combined with the high cost, can effectively bleed you out of rage. This is both positive and negative. When you would be in a situation where you can easilly cap your rage (when tanking multiple mobs or when tanking a boss), any rage you "could" possibly get and that would go over 100 would be wasted. Maul enables us to keep our rage from reaching 100. The cost works as a con when you are in a low-rage situation, and you wish to squeeze some more threat out. This problem can be mitigated however, when you use the Omen of Clarity procs for your advantage.

Simply put, every time you get an Omen proc, it is best used for a free Maul. Why not Mangle, you might ask? Because Mangle is one of our cheapest abilities, and you will virtually always be able to generate threat through Mangle, while you might often be locked out of Mauling due to low rage.

The glyph of Maul adds a minor cleave effect that makes the ability handy in AoE tanking too. Keep in mind though, that this cleave effect can work against you too. I am gonna use a very old school example, but it can easilly be applied to other situations. Back in Naxxramas in Wrath of the Lich King, there was a boss named Loatheb, who awarded a certain achievement, called Spore Loser (10 player). In the fight, weak "spore" adds would spawn, and you were forbidden from killing them. They were so fragile and moved so close to the boss, that you could kill them with two Maul cleaves. That was a good situation to cancel the Glyph of Maul temporarily (you can put a glyph out of your spellbook by shift+clicking it). Basically, consider removing Glyph of Maul temporarily when you do not wish your Maul to accidentally hit something that you are not supposed to hit.

Mists of Pandaria update:

Maul pretty much sucks. You should never prioritize it over Frenzied Regeneration or Savage Defense on a fight of even the slightest importance, it is simply not a worthy spender for Rage. Feel free to use it when soloing old content or generally killing things that are super easy for you, otherwise, might as well put it off your bars.

Okay,in response to all these raving comments about Maul,it might just be me,but it really sucks.It has the highest rage cost,and the lowest damage out of the all the offensive abilities of Bear form.It's off the GCD,but the damage is so meager that I find it's insignificant.To me,it seems to be much simpler and more efficient to spam Lacerate.Can anyone tell me why everyone seems to love Maul?

Maul is highly rated, especially in trash mob/multple enemy situations because when glyphed it can spread the Infected Wounds debuff to TWO enemies, giving a minor AoE ability to help survivability. It also sits OFF the GCD, and can be macro'd to other abilities.

Lacerate and Maul aren't in competition with each other.

I don't honestly think Blizzard would make a spell for 1 copper! Is it free or is it more than 1 copper? (or is it a retarded spell and costs 1copper)
