Revenge shares its cooldown timer with Overpower. It is only usable after you dodge, block or parry.

Some things to take into consideration;

I've been testing a bit on my ( low-level ) warrior.

- The initial damage is affected by the -10% damage factor on Defensive Stance. Thus, the Revenge hit itself will always hit slightly lower than the tooltip states ( although the difference is marginal at best )

- Furthermore, Revenge always seems to be followed by a white weapon hit for me. Thus, the effects of revenge is Revnge + Weapon Hit, instead of just the plain revenge. If it is true that a white hit will always follow a Revenge, the damage caused will be slightly higher than the tooltip states.

Just a few thoughts.

Since you can use Revenge after a block, dodge or parry it's a good idea to use the same hotkey for Shield Block and Revenge. I find that a useful macro to use with this ability is the following:

#showtooltip Revenge; Shield Block
/cast Shield Block
/cast Revenge

This macro will show Shield Block normally, but if you need to see your Revenge cooldown, just press Control and the tooltip switches to show Revenge.

I would like to point out that the tooltip no longer says "and causes a high amount of threat". Is this a mistake on the tooltip? Has the extra threat produced by it been removed? And if that's the case, then is the threat produced by it equal to, less than, or greater than before?

After patch 3.0, this skill absolutely destroys. Given that the damage was increased almost 5 times (from about 200ish to around 1000 in my case) this further increases the viability of a prot warrior in pvp. If you have high enough avoidance you can have this up at least every few seconds.

Its also nice to note that his can crit harder than Overpower for Arms warriors as well as do more damage noncrit. An open window for Revenge is easily enough for 2-3 Revenge hits, talented https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/spell=46860, as it not a single use hit like Overpower.

(great for when YOU dodge, block, parry of course)

Very nice spell, you will probably be using this much more than https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/spell=7384 at lower levels, given that you have a shield too. Paired with https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/spell=2565 it's a great combo that gives decent damage and 100% block, NOT 100% avoidance however, it depends on the mob you're fighting because the amount of damage you absorb is modified by your block value

A nice macro to use whenever cooldown is up
/equip
/equip
/cast shield block

Hit revenge and you're good to go

A 5 second cooldown means that you only use it twice, but hey, better than nothing.

If you're going prot for leveling https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/spell=12727 gives you a bunch of rage if you use Shield Block while aoe grinding.

When you're done, depending if you use a 1h or 2h wep:

/equip (should be 2h wep)
/cast

Edit: Now that it increases sbv by 100%, most likely it will also be a 100% avoidance chance unless fighting an elite/higher level mob

Second best skill a Protection Warrior will use to make certain the mob or boss hates him/her more than the Hunter shooting explosives in its eyes or that warlock that applies third degree burns everywhere.

Shield Slam is of course the better choice threatwise.

List of skill priority (to me at least) when all of them are available for use.
Shield Slam > Revenge > Concussion Blow > Shockwave > Devastate

Shield slam is always a priority to Revenge due to its usually higher damage and its high threat multiplier, not to mention it can and probably will crit more often than Revenge will and for amazing amounts of damage.

Though you might prefer to use this if you're grinding out in the open and that would want your head on a plate.

Counterattack in AoE for to damage. Revenge is only usable after the warrior blocks, dodges or parries an attack.

or if it stacked and you split the damage/swings among the targets. cap ofc.

3.3.2 to 3.3.3

Revenge: Damage done by this ability (base and scaling) increased by 50%.

That means revenge is back to our bars after massive devastate buff making it useless. Yay!

This ability is not only extremely rage efficient in terms of threat generation and damage output for the rage cost, but also hits extremely hard.

In patch 3.3.3, this ability is only going to get even more impressive.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but it appears to have a cleaving effect as well, a new addition to the recent buff or has this always been there? Currently farming Bloodsail rep, and this will swipe 2 at a time for about 4-5k ish damage.

Using Shield Block will sometimes force procs.
Does double damage on crits as all other of your melee hits.

Pure unbuffed ability: ( MinDmg to MaxDmg ) + 31,0% * AP -> 31,0% AP scaling, 1 target
Glyph + Improved Revenge: ( MinDmg to MaxDmg ) + 31,0% * 1,76 * AP -> 54,56% AP scaling, 2 targets

Even in The Shattering (4.0.3a) this skill seems to outperform Shield Slam, at least at lower levels.

With 2/2 your Revenge will hit harder than Shield Slam and also hit another target. With 3/3 (which you did remember to spec into as protection, right?) your Shield Block will have a 30 second cooldown and a 20 sec downtime, giving you an almost guarantee to use Revenge.

Given the damage output of this ability you should prioritize using Revenge over Shield Slam, atleast untill you can spec into 2/2 and even then you will probably still use Revenge when fighting more than one target.

Shield Slam should still be used if you wish to dispel a buff from an enemy though

Revenge cleave damage follows same rules as Heart Strike, primary target is hit for listed damage, secondary for 50%, and third for 25%.

From my experience, it is hard to "control" which additional targets Revenge would hit.
With facing more than 5 opponents, it would sometimes hit the wrong ones and seem like it ignored others.

What I figured is that often my Revenge seems to only hit opponents (in a more reliable fashion) that have been damaged already (and consequently aren't at full health anymore) even if it's just 1 hit point they've lost. Opponents at full health would often stand right next to my main target* and not get hit by my Revenge. On the other hand, it did hit entities that weren't even in combat with me (or anyone else), so the cleaving aspect seems a little inconsistent to me, uncontrollable at least.
It hasn't always been like this.

I think it would alleviate using Revenge if it preferred to hit targets with a higher health percentage, including those with full health, with the exception of my main target* of course which should always get hit by it, and as long as either of them are valid targets and in front of me.

*In these cases, when I say "my main target", I really refer to the main target of Revenge which is often the mouseover target of my Revenge macro.

this is the best aggro getter in the game and this is the first comment, sad really. anyway like i said best aggro getter int he game and learn to use it whenever u tank, cuz everywhere else it sucks, low dps.

The verbage is misleading in this ability. You use this if you block, dodge or parry an ememy's attack. Unlike overpower where you use it when an ememy dodges your attack.

Unfortunately this makes it useful only against melee opponents.

You can use revenge whenever you block, dodge, or parry. You can use it against any mob within 5 seconds. So, if you block an attack from a melee mob, and you are beating on a spell caster, you can use revenge against the spell caster.

Also of note, spell casters can't cast spells when silenced. Even when its me vs a spell caster, improved shield bash maks most enemies use a melee weapon. Against 1v1, the mage will learn to use a wand.

For low lvl tanks is the do Shield Block, Then You block an attack, then you use Revenge, the Sunder while shield block coolsdown, then repeat. I used this for all of the low lvl instances up to SM, there it's harder to get single pulls, which is what this method is best for, but against bosses like Herod and Morgraine it's still effective.

As far as specs go:

Arms: With a big 2H weapon this is best for pvp. Actually, its not good with anything else, if you're MS then you're pvping with a big 2H weapon.

Fury: Duel Wield Fury spec for the best PVE dps and best levelling spec

Protection: Tank spec, a must have for tanking anything endgame, sadly its not worth *!@# anywhere else

From 14-20 this skill was my lifeblood on my Fury Warr. Yes, Fury. Completely beats Heroic Strike. Better DPS, and better Rage management. Psh, forgot all about HS. Sadly, now I can dual wield and will be saying farewell to defensive stance.

But, better DPS you ask? Heroic Strike deals more! But not really... HS eats up a swing. Slows it, and generates no rage. Whereas Revenge is an instant attack, which means you can leave your normal swings to fill your rage bar. Once I hit 16 and got shield block, that is all I used. Shield block, revenge, rinse and repeat. Not only did this have higher DPS than dumping HS (Verified on Mobinfo 2 multiple times), but at least 33% of all attacks were blocked on typical 2.0 attack speed mobs. I would only take 5-10% damage from mobs one or two levels higher than me which left me sickeningly satisfied.

Using that method I always had a full rage bar for emergency use. Finally HS comes to use, but only if I'm not paying attention and aggro too many, otherwise HS collected dust on my actionbar.

The shield block + revenge uses up 15 rage altogether, and I was typically swinging twice inbetween, which left me up a mere 1 or 2 rage points between phases, but since I was a Fury build I had 12% crit, roughly, so I crit fairly often, causing my rage to skyrocket. If you get impatient you can always use Bloodrage.

I'm no expert on Warriors, I'm practically clueless in fact, but I do know that from 16-20 this works well.

What about casters? Shield bash.
What if it's on cooldown? Take the hit, or HS if you think it can wipe out the rest of the mob's hp. You can't win em all. Personally, I kept a 2-hander in my inventory for those occasions.

Thats my 2 copper anyhow.

Warrior was the very first class that I played on WoW. I got up to level 25 before realizing that my character sucked and warriors really wern't my thing.

I picked up rogue and that's currently my main at lvl 52.

I thought about picking Warrior back up because I've learned a lot since then. Before I had friends to tell me how to build a good warrior and before I head about Fury/Tank Warriors, I would constantly spam Heroic Strike like no tomarrow. But after getting back and trying a protection warrior, I realize that the Sheild Block / Revenge Combo was exceedingly useful.

Revenge is like the main attack for my level 20ish protection warrior ^__^

What is the whole point on this attack? Using 5 rage to deal less than 20 damage is a waste. Instant attacks are good, but the only use I see in this is keeping aggro in a raid group or instance, otherwise.. it's worthless.

Revenge must follow the warrior blocking, dodging, or parrying an attack. It is, in this respect, different from overpower, which must follow the warrior's target dodging.

Activate the lvl 16 skill Shield Block to force a block, activating this ability, then use Revenge on the target of your choice. This means: damage mitigation + damage + threat.

If you're a deep prot build, don't sleep on the talent "." Revenge itself is a very spammable ability and should be a staple of your rotation since Improved Shield block essentially guarantees 100% revenge uptime. When maxed out you have a 45% chance to stun your target. This stun does not have an internal cooldown and frequently procs multiple times in a row. It also does not share a diminishing return with activated stuns such as Kidney Shot, Concussive Blow, or Hammer of Justice, meaning that if you get lucky and get enough revenge stuns to hit the diminishing return, you can land a full duration Concussive Blow as a followup.

A stunned enemy cannot block, dodge, or parry your attacks meaning that your next 1 or 2 white hits (weapon speed dependent) and your next activated ability are nearly guaranteed to land. It works on just about every 5 man / 10 man dungeon mob (some exceptions apply) and works on surprising amount of 20 man and 40 man raid mobs - Most notably the Blackwing Spellbinders in BWL, Battleguard Sartura in AQ40 and the adds in that fight, and a few more trash mobs I'm sure I'm forgetting.

I've heard that it generates additional threat too, but I can't find any information that confirms it. At worst it generates the "debuff tax" threat for landing stuns on enemies but may not generate additional threat on stun-immune mobs. At best it boosts the threat per use of the ability on all mobs by some unknown amount. Best info I found is this unresolved question from Magey's classic formula github.

With SOD introducing runes that refresh the cooldown of Shield Slam after a successful revenge, landing that free shield slam on an enemy that cannot avoid sounds like a winning combination for holding threat.
