We're going to definitely hold strong when it comes to tanking!

You have to remember that Blizzard has removed Blessing of Salvation so this additional threat generated will be needed to keep up with that change.

End result is that warriors and paladins are going to be able to do a "bit" more damage in their tanking spec.

By the way, druids and deathknights should already do enough damage.

On top of everything, I hear STR will give 0.5 SBV instead of 0.05, so this puppy is going to be ridiculous. You hear about people experimenting with shield slam sets, and now it's 200%.

But wait, there's more! Not only is it twice the slam, but there's better multipliers (ie sanctity aura) and don't go anywhere, 'cause it's holy, not physical, so it ignores armor! Better still, there's no dodge/parry/block, only the rare spell "resist"/miss! Order now!

Seriously though, it'd be 3k easy. Today. Noncrit. And ridiculous damage means ridiculous threat, "900 TPS" might not seem dazzling, but that's on top of whatever getting hit and blocking does (holy shield etc) as well as melee and whatever else is done with the GCD.

Sorry ive seen it said to many times in comments here about 190% threat, this is NOT the case as the 90% threat bonus has been removed from righteous fury to allow for these higher damage abilities.
RF still gives the damage reduction but these abilities due to the change to righteous fury generate only the standard threat.

WotLK tankadins: warriors and druids step aside as main tanks, paladins get 100% aggro on undead and demons, plus lay of hands just went from that annoying anti-wipe spell to the master heal(only 3 raids and their wings are not undead based(ulduar, the nexus, and certain wings of Azjol-Nerub are not undead))

although a realatively sharp blow to paladins is the change to seals and the lost of seal of the crusader

Any reason that this seems to be only available to Alliance so far? The only two trainers listed above are both in Alliance capital cities. I would like to know if there is a Hord equivalent with perhaps a different name?

i.e.:
Seal of the Martyr / Seal of Blood
Shield of Righteousness / ?

I should hope I did waste too much gold/effort working on my block value only to find out Blood Elfs will not be getting this spell, I would probably have to reconsider what spec I will be leveling as if not.

Please do not take me for a fool, I understand and have been very well aware that this is an expansion talent learned at level 75. I was not looking for it on the class trainers as of now. My question was irrelevant of that information, I was inquiring about the information posted on the "Taught By" tab at the top of the page. Where it is only showing alliance trainers.

I'm Holy specced, and was excited to try this out. It causes Holy damage and the tooltip clearly states that it is a spell. So I thought it would make use of my spell power and I would finally do some decent damage. Unfortunetly it only takes your block value into account.

Just an FYI, kinda an bug atm, but This spell + rank 2 of ShoR don't share cooldown... so if you want to optimize this, make an macro like...

Hi, I'm Defense, on Onyxia-US PvP. I decided to post some numbers here to give people a better idea of this spell's potential.

After noticing some rather high numbers (to my pleasant surprise, of course), I started putting together a block set. I reached 1322 Block Value with Redoubt (but without the WOTLK-nerfed +5% block value meta, which I am suddenly beginning to crave for a block set :P).

Note that with my block set, I use the Libram of Obstruction and Lavanthor's Talisman to reach 2352 Block Value without any strength buffs.

Here is the full data for my SoR and HotR (simply for comparison's sake) from a Heroic Azjol-Nerub run that I tanked (or maybe dpsed...):

Shield of Righteousness
Hit: 2517 (minimum), 3571 (average), 5633 (maximum) -- Hit 79 out of 99 casts. (79.8% of the time)
Crit: 5362 (minimum), 7050 (average), 9970 (maximum) -- Crit 18 out of 99 casts. (18.2% of the time)
Missed 2 out of 99 times. (2% of the time)

409,021 total damage.

Hammer of the Righteous (with 2 piece T7 bonus for an additional +10% HotR damage and a 130.2dps DK-optimized tanking weapon, because better tank weapons wont drop for me :<)
Hit: 1154 (minimum), 1543 (average), 2124 (maximum) -- Hit 127 out of 154 casts. (82.5% of the time)
Crit: 2367 (minimum), 3129 (average), 3759 (maximum) -- Crit 22 out of 154 casts. (14.3% of the time)
Missed 5 out of 154 times. (3.2% of the time)

264,822 total damage.

This is all with Shield of the Templar, 3/3 and One-Handed Weapon Specialization, 5/5.

27,112 crit on Malygos. (buffs: Kings, Strength of Earth, Lavanthor's Talisman popped , libram , Avenging Wrath, and 2x Malygos spark buffs) I dps'ed the fight as prot and got 4th (this on our first night of attempts, and my dps being 4th may be a reason why we didn't down him. :D)

As an 80 paladin with 1200 Block my Shield hits for 2200 and crits for 5500. With https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/item=40707 it hits for 3200 and crits for 7900. With Avenging Wrath....You don't want to know.

Cheap mana cost, great threat and burst for PVP.

its really sick watching this crit when you pop a BV trinket, AR and judge with right libram. its not a solid sorce of extra dps since its 2 chances on max outbput for 2 cycles every 3 minutes..but when mr tank can pump out 9 k crits..you got bragging rights for recount data mwahaha

Confirmed testing on the PTR a few mins ago, the damage seems to remain unchanged, my SoR is still hitting for exactly the same amount. A tooltip change apparently, not any buff or nerf.

We cannot confirm that, although Avenger's Shield now has a silence effect. Did you confuse these two?

Shield of the Templar: No longer increases the damage done by Holy Shield, Avenger’s Shield, and Shield of Righteousness. Now grants 33/66/100% chance to silence your Avenger’s Shield targets for 3 seconds.

Diminishing returns occur once block value exceeds 30 times the player's level and caps the maximum damage benefit from shield block value at 34.5 times the player's level.

Shield of Righteousness wording has been changed from "causes Holy damage equal to 100% of your block value" to "causes Holy damage based on your block value"

Rather large nerf there tbh >.< anything over 2760 SBV is uselss. I have about that just now (pvp set) before the buffs. I need to get back on the PTR to check this out properly tbh but I can see the days of 15k shield slams are gone :( (30k+ if its the WSG flag carrier with the debuff :P) I'll update when I have more info.

That's inaccurate, and is not how DR works.

If the DR doesn't start until 30 * (level), then you won't see any DR at all until you reach 2400 BV. Once you reach 2400 BV each successive point of BV thereafter will contribute less and less and less to your ShoR, with an infinite amount of BV required to reach 34.5 * (level) contribution.

This is a great ability in 4.0, crits for around 13k on training dummies in full 277 gear for me. Its sad though cause it takes around 14s to gather 3 stacks of holy power from HoR, meaning in theory if you were using this on 3 stacks only, from live it would be used on a 14s rotation instead of a 6s. Damage increase isnt worth it at that point imo. Plus this is tied in with holy shield now so you cant really miss a SoR for a Inquisition for damage increase or your HS will fall off, (that is unless you use 1 stack of holy power).

Both CS and HotR have a 3 second shared cool-down, which means 3 holy power will take ~9 seconds to generate.

Is it on the GCD? That would put it at 10.5 seconds before haste.

This makes for absolutely ridiculous crits in ICC at the moment. This does 120% of AP at three holy power. Vengeance gives you lots of AP, 10% of your max health to be exact. (Not counting the ICC health buff as far as I can tell. *sadpanda*) Coupled with the 30% damage buff, you're already past the 20k mark. Then if you want to get real fancy, go kill Festergut.

Get eight stacks, have your OT taunt, click off righteous fury if you're a pansy, and pop wings. Then fap at numbers no arcane mage would even dream about. (Highest I've had verified is 57k by the other tank in my guild, could go a lot higher obviously.)

For prot. pvp paladins if you want to make nice crits with shield of righteous then try out that: gather 3 holy power with crusader strike then strike judgement and wait for Sacred Duty to pop after that turn on Inquistion then Divine Plea+wings and trinket with str. if u got and u can crit really nasty. All is here shield of righteous is holy dmg, Inquisition will give u 30% incr. holy dmg also with the glyph shield of righteous (10% incr. dmg on Shield of Righteous) this can bring casters down really easy and in the arenas it will work great if u make it in the right way.

Assuming a hit is not blocked while the buff is active, it emulates the 30% damage reduction of a block (4.3 values).
Assuming a hit is blocked while the buff is active, it is slightly better than a block with Holy Shield active (4.3 values).
Ultimately, prot paladins have gained the ability to "block" unblockable attacks (Ex: Madness Impale).
Unfortunately, the 3 second window could pose a challenge to effective usage. Then again, perhaps that is the point of "active mitigation".

Edit: Mastery currently increases the physical damage reduction effect: with 20% mastery, SotR reduces physical damage by 50%, instead of 30%.

Bastion of Glory can be considered as the resources for Protection Paladin; one can have 5 stacks of Bastion of Glory max.
it generate by:

Shield of the Righteous (+1; reducing physical damage Paladin himself take by 30%)

when Paladin have stacks of Bastion of Glory, this spell can be cast to consume all stacks of Bastion of Glory:

Word of Glory (self healing increased by 10% for each stacks of Bastion of Glory consumed; not on GCD)

Let us compare this to a Warrior's Shield Block.

When a Paladin or Warrior block a physical attack, the attack does 30% less damage.

When a Paladin has Shield of the Righteous up, all physical attacks do x% less damage (varies depending on mastery, but let's say about 30% less). And if the Paladin also blocks that attack, the damage it does is further reduced by 30%, which occurs at a rate equal to the Paladin's block chance.
When a Warrior has Shield Block up, all physical attacks are blocked doing 30% less damage, and the warrior has a chance equal to the warrior's block chance that the attack will be critically blocked, doing a further 30% less damage.

Shield Block and Shield of the Righteous work somewhat like mirror images of eachother, in other words the result is very similar. Physical attacks are either blocked or 'super-blocked'. However Paladin Mastery (Mastery: Divine Bulwark) increases the reduction value of the of the 'superblock' faster than it increases the liklihood of that superblock, whereas Warrior Mastery (Mastery: Critical Block) increases the liklihood of a 'superblock' much faster than a Paladin's Mastery does, but without increasing its reduction value per se.

Also a Paladin's Mastery increases the Self Healing value of Word of Glory. and Shield Block lasts twice as long per cast than Shield of the Righteous.
