Blinkstrike

Dont know if anyone remembers but this used to be a little joke people used to spam in trade, it was basicly the first thing before people started linking things like Anal Anal and ect which tbh I dont really like but I liked when this was randomly linked by someone and everyone was like "oh nnnnnnnnoooooooooooooo oh here we go here it comes" then everyone started linking it, good times.

I can already see this being sick in the right BM pvp spec.

BW, KC, Blink Strike and stacks of mastery. That should be some nice numbers...

How to win at BM spec:

1. Stack mastery
2. Speck into Blink Strike
3. Get a cat/spirit beast for their Prowl opener buff
4. Run around 1-shotting stuff
5. ?
6. Profit!

Edit: this was before Mists of Pandaria content had come out, however the expansion was out, and so Pandaria talents had been implemented and at that time, you could go and basically instakill the weak cataclysm mobs. Now that Pandaria has been out for a long time, it's been changed.

Does the threat apply to the pet or to the hunter? I assume this and Linx Rush generate threat for the pet.

Interestingly enough, when used against a flying mob, your pet will hover above the ground. I used my pet (Terrorpene) to attack Cliff Kites for the quest, Mission: Aerial Threat and he hovered every time I used the ability. Screenshot submitted.

Since patch 5.3, Blink Strikes is now a passive ability.

Just to be clear, this is a PASSIVE ability now.

If you had the old Blink Strike on your action bar, the button will remain there, but won't work. You can remove the button - saving you a spot on your action bar.

I was severely buggered when I kept pressing the button and nothing happened....

: It may or may not have been a macro that was on my action bar... the actual ability should have disappeared from your action bar.

So questions I have about blink strikes:

Is this a buff on the player or the pet?

how long does the buff last? if I target switch multiple times when the buff is active will my pet port around from target to target?

A word of caution for those farming old mobs for any purpose:

The Blink Strikes ability gets your pet to the mob before your shot arrives. If your pet is strong enough to kill it, you will not be eligible to loot.

I noticed today that blink strike is not working properly. I log on and see the mob I am camping so I attack. My pet then runs up to the mob instead of teleporting to the back of it. It can't be a CD thing cause it is my first attack after logging on. Anyone else noticing this?

After trying it more I noticed that the first mob I attack after logging on blink strike does not work but all the other mobs after that it works fine. I submitted a bug. It is a minor annoyance since it is only the first attack

I can't seem to figure out what the ICD on this is. Conflicts with Dash without me being able to tell. Does anyone know?

I don't get why this ability seems to be the least-favorite of virtually every hunter out there. Most feel Murder of Crows is best, followed by Lynx Strikes, with this coming in last. I mainly solo and having my pet's basic attacks do 150% normal damage all the time seems pretty decent to me...

I ran some tests on this and figured out a few basics about it. This is for the 5.3 version.

First, the increased damage component is always on. Every basic attack will get the bonus whether or not the pet used the blink. For this, I turned on the pet combat log and let the numbers run for a while. They were always consistent within a small margin, allowing for crits and/or above 50 focus, which means it is always on.

Second, the blink effect has an internal cooldown. It won't be used every time your pet can use its basic attack. It won't blink if it is within a short range of the target either (a guess: looks like melee range to 10 yards). I ran the stopwatch while running my "assist/passive" macro on a target dummy, and the pet could blink to the dummy every 20 seconds on the dot. So the ICD of this passive is 20 seconds.

tl;dr
50% bonus damage is always on for basic attack, blink or no blink.
Blink has greater than ~10 yard range, never under.
Blink has ICD of 20 seconds.
