In PvP, don't bother using it if your target isn't polymorphed or something alike since it doesn't got as high DPS as fireball.

This is one of the biggest damage spells in the game and is feared by melee classes. End game mages with good gear can cast pyro's that do up to 6K damage when crit. 6K damage is enough to one-shot most players, except warriors and paladins with lots of stamina gear. It is also a great finisher in instances, where the aggro is not on the mage and he can cast for 6 seconds uninterrupted. However, if the target is still alive after the pyro, aggro will probably go to the mage!

6 crits are very rare unless your buffed out to the max, and have AP and zhc on maybe even bg beserker. This spell is the the most DPM effecient spell a mage has, scorch being the second. This spell is effective for a opener or even a POM combo. the dot does decent damage nothing too special. The good thing about this spell is it looks alot cooler than fireball! :)

Its not so hard to hit the 6k crits anymore, with the Spell power talent, along with ZHC and AP, its quite do able.

This spell is defiantely one of the most efficient spells in the game, a great opener in both PVP and PVE as the dot provides some decent damage, as well combined with POM, can be a devastating hit towards any pvp opponent.

Its okay. The 6 second time definitely limits its usability in any situation. Its really just a novelty spell that you're gonna end up using only with PoM, and even then if it doesn't crit its really not that special.

this is definitely the biggest spell a mage can dish out. as many have mentioned, presence of mind makes it an instant cast, dishing out anywhere from 1k - 3k damage.

This spell is an extremley powerful one, for all new mages wishing to master the Fire tree, this is a MUST!

As for me, I tend to use it on NPC enemies, because I can do a lot of damage, from long range, as an opening attack. And if you have Frost Nova (I think that's it. It's a Frost move that freezes the enemy in place) it lasts about 6 seconds, and if you back up a little, that's more than enough time to hit'em with another Pyroblast!

As a low level, fitting pryo in isn't that hard. At higher levels, especially in PvP, you simply cannot fit it in. In BGs, people are not going to be stupid and watch you cast a 6 second spell - they have many ways to intercept. Higher level mobs also have many ways to interrupt your casting too.

Frost nova does not last 6-8 seconds all the time. It breaks every now and then, and if the enemy attacks you it can really mess your fight up. You have to note the time it takes to blink, turn around, and begin casting too.
Fitting a pyro in isn't worth it anyway, considering you can fire 2-3 fireballs or frostbolts in the same time. Use it as opener, don't bother trying to fit it in during combat.

Pyro is just good against casters, pretty horrible against melee.

This can crit for as high as 7k (I bet for more, but thats the highest I've seen, one of my guild's tanks got killed in the air by a PoM Pyro, couldn't figure out what killed him though)

You also cannot use frost nova because this leaves a DoT on the target, hence breaking the nova.

Pyroblast is pretty useless without the talent PoM due to its long cast time. You can get off two fireballs in the same time it takes to cast one of these, each which will cause almost as much damage, especially if you have the Empowered Fireball talent. The only real use for this is to pull normal enemies while soloing. And as Moshimoshi said, any competent fire mage will start boss fights with scorch to stack Improved Scorch, not use pyroblast and risk getting aggro.

This is NOT a good opener, or even a good spell.
What makes it good is Presence of Mind. Stacking that with Arcane Power and possibly a Trinket. This is an awesome spell for end-game bosses as most of the fights last longer than 3 mins.

With the PoM/AP/Trinket/Pyro combo, this is good for arena (as cooldowns are reset each time), battlegrounds, and instances.

WARNING: Don't us this as an opener in raids/instances unless you intend on tanking that mob. This is only a viable spell mid-fight or and ender.

PvP I find this attack excellent, just have to plan the timing and turn correctly to get this little nuke out. I personally prefer this over a Fireball.

May just be me, but I like hard hits followed by damage over time.

With Cataclysm, Pyroblast is becoming a 3.5 second cast, and its damage over time component is becoming much more significant. It is meant to have the DoT kept up during a fight. It's also becoming a level 10 ability for Fire.

Be careful when making a macro that contains /cast Pyroblast

The macro system will always treat /cast Pyroblast as the long cast version of the spell, even if the Hot Streak proc is up. Thus, for example, even with the proc you would not be able to use the macro on the run even though you could with the normal spell.

Similarly, /cast Pyroblast! will always be treated as the instant cast version. If you try to use it when you do not have the Hot Streak buff, the macro will fail.

this attack should be the most powerful attack in WoW, able to out crit dmg a hunters aimed shot and do twice dmg a ambush can do. this move is like a supernova.. that would be awesome :D

In TBC it looked more like a orange/yellow orb so to speak, was so pretty :D

So maybe I just forgot that you get a new spell at 10 ALONG with a talent point, but I was looking at the fire tree and didn't see this spell where it was before (Hadn't looked since WotLK) and it wasn't at trainer so I was lost. So if anyone reading this is <lvl10 and can't find it, you get it when you choose to be fire :P

A spell usually used from the proc of Hot Streak or used to apply Critical Mass at the beginning of a fight. As of patch 4.3: Hour of Twilight -- Pyroblast was buffed. Patch note: Pyroblast’s initial damage has been increased by approximately 26%, and its damage over time has been increased by approximately 100%. Initially one of the things that made Fire one of the top dps specs for Hour of Twilight.

I'm pasting it here in case they retire the beta forums after release.

There are some times where we do some tricky things under the hood to make things feel better, and this is one of them. The intended gameplay is that you should be able to get a Heating Up proc while already casting another spell, and follow that one with an Inferno Blast to force a Hot Streak proc. You should never need to cancel your current cast to get that benefit.

So, tricky under-the-hood things follow. Again, you do not need to know or understand this to use Inferno Blast effectively, or play Fire; it should “just work." But, for those interested in the gory details, here they are:
-- Fireball, Pyroblast, and Frostfire Bolt (which was bugged until recently) have a cap on their effective travel time.
-- Their effects will take place after a maximum of 0.75 sec.
-- The fireball visual will still travel at the same speed, but you’ll see the damage number pop up and get the Heating Up proc after 0.75 sec, even though the fireball visual is still traveling through the air.
-- We normally prefer the game to feel more visceral, by tightly syncing visuals to effects, but this change felt worth the gameplay benefit to us. In a future patch, we may be able to hasten the visual to match.
-- If you have Heating Up, and get a non-crit, then Heating Up gets removed, as expected.
-- However, if the non-crit came from a spell with a travel time, or from Scorch (which is supposed to be able to replace Fireball rotationally while moving), then we delay the removal of Heating Up by 0.25 sec.

trying to add a tracker in power auras for when the pyroblast dot is on the target. for osme reason this spell id isnt coming up. Is there a different ID for the actual DOT debuff?

For the Pyroblast proc you should look at Pyroblast!. It is that which will show up as one of your Unit Buffs.

Heating Up & Pyroblast! are the main DPS mechanisms for Fire Mage, Heating Up & Pyroblast! do not have charges.
they triggered by critical (their critical chance all multiplied by 1.3 (Critical Mass); they all cause Mastery: Ignite):

Fireball
Scorch
Frostfire Bolt (NOT in normal Fire Mage DPS rotation)
Inferno Blast (do NOT cast without Heating Up triggered)
Pyroblast (do NOT cast without Pyroblast! triggered)

and when Mage have Heating Up triggered, follow this steps to trigger Pyroblast! and consume, otherwise Heating Up might be cancelled:

Inferno Blast (guaranteed to critical, change Heating Up to Pyroblast!)
Pyroblast (consume Pyroblast! to make it instant, free, and deal 25% additional damage)

if you are killing a quest mob which for any reason you don't have the opportunity to initiate combat where and when you please(for example,WPL-i aint sayin' you a gourd-digger), make sure you cast frost nova before pyroblast as the shatter passive will hopefully cause a crit which, followed by a n inferno blast and a second instant pyroblast, and maybe a few arcane explosions to finish the job if needed, should kill it before you take too much damage.

Post Patch 1.11 Pyroblast does not now have a cooldown on it. When you do the 6 sec charge up, and the Pyroblast is fired, you can do another one right afterwards if you so wish.

It previously had a 3 min cooldown (i think?) which made it a spell that you'd use occasionally, but not anymore. It can be used whenever you have the 6 seconds to cast it.

Ok, on the spell it said rank 2, (at lvl 24) but there was one also at lvls 9 and 20 so i really have no clue what the hell is wrong with it this time. THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS BECAUSE I AM A MAGE.

this skill is the best i use it after i sheep someone. first it goes like this. Sheep ..... Pyroblast.. Frostblost....Frost nova firebolt then fireblast......Dead

Nice, I deserved that, I did misread your post.

Suicidal mages are fun. You'll either kill your opponent very quickly or die very quickly. It's not the most logical way to play a mage, but it's very satisfying to deal out so much damage.

gawdamn noobs. it's a matter of taste and personal playing style. i've trounced many chars of my own level and a little higher in pvp with my mage. people who can't seem to figure out the best way to use a class seem to assume that it is a weaker class. go back to playing paladins and warriors if you think mages suck.

lol without presence of mind this spell is completley useless, can get 2 fireballs off in the same cast time or since your fire spec to get this, 1 second less if you get improved fireball for considerably more damage then pyroblast

Best crit with rank1 so far is 406 :P Im lvl 21 and i got + 71 fire spell dmg :) I killed a druid and a hunter with 1 pyro on each of them. The Ignite ticked 82 and pyro dot 17.

Spell dmg rly does pwn compared to intellekt. I do around 265 with a pyro instead of 185.

I dont have any fire dmg enchants, just green fiery wrath stuff.

Lol once i was in a BG and i did PoM pyro and it did like 400 dmg and I was like ?. Then I realized I was using rank 1 (just respecced)

yes...pyro isnt good in pvp...but it is in pve...very mush so. let me prove myself.

1. If you think about it, this spell doesnt use much more mana then a fireball, but has improved dmg. if you are instancing, and are fighting a boss for example, if you let the tank aggro a little, you can sit back and spam pyro. yes it does take longer then spamming fireballs, but considering you will get less casts in, you will save mana, and do considerable damage.

2. the famous mage poly/pyro. it does work in pve also to certain extents. if you attract aggro, you can sheep the mob and pyro away. when your first pyro hits and the sheep becomes the nasty of choice, you can frost nova and repeat the process. works even nicer when you are lv 30 and can get cold snap along side pyro, as soon as u frost nova/pyro, cold snap and do over.

all in all pyro is a perticularly good spell for damage obsessed mages, but comes at the cost of large casting time and more mana.

i was a fire mage and have hit 1313 at lv 49 with a pyro/combustion on princess thaladras

You only get this spell at level 20 if you take the appropriate talent, and you have been putting all your talent points so far into fire talents to meet the prerequisite.

You need only 10 points spent in Fire to get this talent. I am a level 20 Undead mage and just got it. I spent 5 points on Ignite and 5 points on Improved Fireball and of course 1 point on Pyroblast.
