If you stand back in the doorway you gain a yellow gear that allows you to interact with the scroll as long as people aren't jumping in front of you.

This was formerly a choke point in leveling a new Pandaren but has since been fixed to allow more people to interact with it.
To do this quest, first wait for Master Shang Xi to give you the Master's Flame. This will happen automatically after a brief chat.
Next, go up to the top floor of the building, onto the balcony. There, you will see a scroll mounted to a piece of stone. Simply click the scroll and the quest will complete.

if you make a macro that says "/interact edict of temperance" (no quotes) you can do the quest if you simply spam the macro, since no one will see anything in chat. (for some reason when I was there people were spamming "/c interact" for some reason, which doesn't do anything other then annoy people)

Another lesson learned should be spamming "/c interact Edict of Temperance" gets you nowhere.

Pretty sure they changed this, at least for the beta, so that you just have to be near it, to prevent it from being a choke point. I ran up, and didnt have to click anything to either grab the flame, or burn the scroll

Took quite a while but found a place near his hand where my cursor turned to a glove with a yellow glow. Use (right click) when you have that cursor and you will get the flame. Then upstairs to the balcony which will show a gear icon. Use that to complete the second step.

Placing the cursor above the NPC's head where the quest indicator is allows you to easily grab the flame.

I did this a couple days ago, and stood there for quite a while trying to figure this out.

If I stood way back, It showed that his flame was click-able but as soon as I got close.. it was not.

I found that if you stand in front of him (facing him), move to the right a bit and click. Don't click on him, click beside him. Weird, but it worked.

It seems a bit bugged, i had to move the mouse slightly to the left and above his name in order to get the "grab" icon and be able to take the flame from him.

For those who figured out this quest's part one and are longing to know (as I was!) how and where to complete part two, the "scroll" you burn stands man-high on a balcony off the 2nd floor. Make sure you go up TWO flights of stairs, to the top of the building. See screenshots.

I think this quest is a tiny bit bugged. I ended up moving my mouse over my toons own head which caused it to turn into a little hand with a yellow outline. I right-clicked and was able to obtain the flame.

There is really no excuse for Blizzard to have a quest this bugged within the first 5 minutes of a starting area. I wonder how many first time players just logged off WoW and never came back because they had not been in the game long enough to search WoWhead.

I find it hard to believe the pre Activision Blizz would have ever let the quest go live as it is.

Just a little FYI for those who think the burning flame hand is cool and want to keep it forever, unfortunately the answer is 'not really'. It IS possible to keep leveling on the island with the burning paw (first by farming mobs then picking herbs) but you will not be able to progress off the island without finishing all the quests. So the choice is yours, slow level/grind with a cool flashy paw of fiery awesome or fast normal leveling without flashy paw of fiery awesome. The choice is yours.

So, uh, yeah I wanted the burning paw but couldn't keep it if I wanted off the island and figured someone who also wants the same thing will come here to see if there is a way.... nope, no way.

Abandoned after 15 minutes searching every pixel. Retook quest and it gave me the flame credit immediately. Didn't even have to click anything!

What if I accept the quest, get the glowing paw, and then do a level boost and never finish it? Would my paw still glow?

Description

Every wisdom has a time and place, and times are changing for those of us living here on Shen-zin Su. For this lesson, I would ask two things of you.

For the first, I hold a flame in my hand. Gather your wits, and when you think you are ready, attempt to snatch the flame.

Should you succeed, I want you to then climb to the top of this temple and burn the Edict of Temperance that you find there.
