Gold Veins can spawn instead of any Iron veins. This is like a rare spawn among the veins.

EDIT: Mithril also has a chance to spawn them, but has more chance to get a Truesilver than a Gold.

Make sure you save up your gold because you will need it later on down the road when you go to learn Smelt Dark Iron ore. You will need 20 Gold bars for that quest, and it may save you time in the future from back tracking and farming them again.

I have found most in Tanaris as rare spawn of Mithril. But basically I think any place with Iron/Mithril have same chance of getting Gold Vein.

Although not listed above... I have seen gold ores pop in Wetlands and Duskwood as well. Very rare.

Just and FYI to miners:

Gold Ore and Silver Ore are a skill point for anyone who smelts ( up to a certain level) it helps get over that hump where the ore is green and a pain in the arse to get 1 more point, so you can then smelt something higher.

So in other words Gold Ore and Silver Ore are worth more on the AH for this reason.

because on kilrogg there is only one gold vein that spams very fast , above northfold manor , you know on the mountains , but sometimes is a silver vein but if u find an iron vein u are close

I can tell you that when I last visited a known iron deposit in Duskwood (57, 46), it spawned as a gold vein.

The areas they tend to spawn in the most are the Kobold, Troll, and Ogre caves.

I've scouted all over Arathi now, even got the achievement, no gold ores found yet. I've been to some of the other places too, but no luck there either. Can't really afford to buy a stack of gold ores from AH for 100g per stack...

Be sure to grab your gold if you find it right away. Just had it snatched from me while making sure I had the skill level to mine it on a lowbie.

I have found good quantities (relatively) of gold and silver in the Southeastern cluster of Arathi. I haven't checked the Northeastern clusters, but the two areas in the Southeast, especially in the caves (as stated above) are veeery good places to check once in awhile.
Edit: Check Northeastern cave. No gold found, but lots of Alliance quest items (lesser bloodstone), some Iron, and Mithril.

And yes, this sells for AMAZING prices on the AH. Be prepared to make some serious gold. :)
Edit: The Ogre cave west of Refuge Point is a decent source, but be prepared for a fight.

Both gold and silver still sell for butt-tons on the AH. Hardly any competition due to the rarity of the veins.

Found lots of gold veins in western plaguelands ( and tons of iron, too).
You need mining skill 155 at least.

Found a decent spot for these in Thousand Needles, now that it's been flooded in Cataclysm.

Inside Splithoof Hold underwater the cave entrance is 44,36, there are a bunch of non-minable Iron Pyrite Veins that are for a quest. However there are usually 2-3 Gold Veins in there at a time. I'm not sure the respawn rate here though.

South and/or west of Burning Steppes is the best mining area for gold ore so far, I have mined 29x Gold ore under 55 m along with 196x Mithril ore and 301x Solid stones. Also 7 random gems.

It's crazy- I absolutely cannot find this anywhere, or silver or khorium. I haven't tried looking for truesilver yet but it seems like most rare metal spawn rates have been nerfed hard.

Edit: Well I finally found silver. It's spawning where the iron is instead of tin. Still looking for the gold.

Although the in-game tooltip states "Requires Mining 155" , the text was orange to me and I was able to mine the gold at 137 -- strange!

These are all Mithril veins, requiring Mining 150. No gold at all.

I found two of these in Feralas down by the Ruins of Isildien. Also, you can mine gold at 115. Feralas has mostly Iron veins, but after a couple rounds silver and gold veins will spawn. Happy hunting. :)

The best place to look for Gold Ore is in Thousand Needles, there is a place called Spirithoof Hold, underwater there is a cave that spawns several gold veins at a time. its Coords are 44,37

There's plenty in Searing Gorge. Easy to farm, just fly in a circle.

This states the most gold veins can be found in Felwood, I have not found this to be the case, I have found more Mithril in Felwood than Gold. I found maybe 1-3 gold veins. At least I know where to go now for Mithril!

Places where Tin veins spawn will randomly and rarely spawn into Silver veins. Same goes for Iron/Mithril veins spawning into Gold veins.

i can't find gold anywhere. it used to be in the cave in arathi but it's not there anymore

I know this post is old - but hey ... I'm reading it ;)
The mine spoken about is in Alterac mountains - near Tarren Mill (alot of Horde quests run out of that area)
The Mine itself is at 46, 32 for those of you that have coordinates (gotta love those addons!). If not, head south west towards the fields - the entrance is about two-thirds of the way, and you really can't miss the Yeti's outside. Note: for those Warlocks running around in that area, they r a good way of grabbing up soul shards for a while if you need them :)

I've heard Arathi is a good place to farm this stuff. I also had a friend who ran the yeti mine over and over again until one time it was completely filled with gold and more gold veins were popping about every five minutes. But I've only personally seen about two or three gold veins ever, so I can only say what I've heard.

Gold will sometimes take the place of an iron deposit, however it is quite a rare spawn, so wherever you see iron deposits, theres a small chance you'll find a gold vein or two.

Mining Gold requires level 155 skill.
After level 205, nodes become Green and will rarely level you up.
After level 255 skill, nodes become Gray and you will no longer gain skill level.
