Easily one of the best weapons for a tanking paladin. Armor, high stamina, int, and +spell damage.

And with a very nice speed you'll be getting the most out of your reckonings as well.

I have seen this have 41 dps on this site and 71 dps on another site. This discrepancy would settle the pally vs. caster debate over which classes this weapon is intended for. If it's 71 dps, it's without question a tankadin weapon. If it's 41 dps, that's more of a conflict though the +spell dmg is great for paladins to hold aggro.

There are exactly 2 good paladin tanking swords in pre-raid BC and thats the two already mentioned ones, this one and the continuum blade.

one just has to decide between 6 int+60 armor or 6 stam+8 spellhit. As i'm tanking with reckoning+SoR (i need melee-hit), I'm not that much interested in +Spellhit, furthermore my manapool is starting to get a little low for my taste, so I prefer this one over continuum blade, just because of the 90 more mana.

@ CheDA: White damage is completely irrelevant for Paladin tanking. Even with just +300 spelldamage and a 70dps one hand tanking mace from Ikiss (I got it because there was no Warrior there, okay?), the white damage is only about 9% of my aggro. With a spelldamage-sword, the white damage drops to about half (71 dps vs. 41 dps), but holy damage aggro is increased a lot.

Sad thing is: Why do we still have to discuss about these two swords being good for paladins? Why are there still people telling us to gtfo and find some "tank weapon" (which we are not allowed because the warriors can use them better) or whatever? This blade drops and a paladin is in your group, no matter if its the healer, the tank or a damage dealer, this blade goes to him. Everything else is just greed. Trolls, just accept that Paladin is a working class since BC (finally) and can do pretty fine in any of the roles he is able to take.

It is indeed 41.4 DPS - I have it on my warlock. Thott just has it wrong for some reason, but all the stats listed here are correct.

I'd put this weapon as pretty even for a lock, mage, or paladin. Mage slightly less only because the crit rating on some of the other weapons would probably be good for a mage (or destruction lock).

This and Continuum blade are two great choices for a Mage who plans on PvPing.

Both have high stam--necessary for a Mage in PvP--and good spell damage.

I don't see a reason why Paladins can't roll on this against a Mage/Warlock. All three classes get a lot out of it.

Pally tanking weapon? Don't be ridiculous. Look at the DPS, look at the stats, then compare to a true pally weapon. The itemization is all wrong for a pally. This is definitely a caster sword, and not another way for pally's to pretend they can hold aggro like a tank; just to lose it as soon as the first frostbolt, fireball, or shadow bolt hits. Face it, pally's can only truly tank when the group is significantly over-level for the instance being run or when facing masses of undead. As it is, the pally's role is OT, backup heals, res's, and AOE. Get a proper tanking weapon+sheild, bubble up and pull all the trash, consecrate and let the caster's AOE. Pull aggro off the healers/casters and return them to the tank. Res the party if the healer dies, too. Don't forget to judge wisdom. I think maybe there's a half dozen pally's in existence that actually remember to do that instead of complaining about oom.

So in summary, rolling against a caster for this weapon will likely garner you a rather useless weapon that will be replaced as soon as possible, and some decidedly unhappy casters that are left wondering exactly what class you think you are playing.

I know this is a pretty good paladin tanking weapon, but if you think about it this is actually very good for a mage/lock. This alone has +24 stamina, and your offhand could possibly give you more than +50 altogether which is pretty good compared to a staff.

I would say this weapon has alot lower than 11% drop rate, I seen 3 Sun Eaters drop before I seen one of these, I got Exalted on 2 different characters and seen this once, very rare drop but seems very nice for tanking Paladins

This weapon is more likely to be on a 2% to )% drop rate. I have ran Mechnar more than 20 times and no Mana wrath, but yet is posted as a 11% drop rate...... someones lying and i think its allak and blizz. This deinately needs to have the % adjusted so it isnt misleading to others who go there iwth intentions on actually getting one. And to those whom have gotten one already, comsider yourselves very lucky because thats the last time you will see it drop.

Don't let the low white damage fool you...

This is an outstanding weapon for a Tankadin. First off, the low speed allows for a steady and reliable source of Holy Damage from either Seal of Righteousness or more frequent chances for Seal of Vengence to proc. I currently use a Lok'amir for tanking and the 2.1 speed means the occasional (though not very) loss of Vengence debuffs through misses or non-procs. Yes, it won't proc as often per hit, but the greater frequency of hits added with the increase of speed below the 2 second threshold means that Vengence has a higher probability of being refreshed before the 12 second debuff expires completely.

Also, the huge bonus of added spell damage is what any Tankadin should be striving for the most. Holy damage and not white damage is what will keep those mobs attacking us. As most tanking gear we can find beyond Righteous Armor has this in short supply, having this weapon can make up for that lacking significantly.

Add in the high Stamina and Intellect and it all makes for one weapon I will definitely try for. The only question is how it compares with the Continuum Blade from the Caverns of Time or the Blade of the Archmage out of Honor Hold...

clearly with the low dps it is being aimed at clothies by blizz, get ur dirty stinkin pally mits off our weapons, lol, ok it so doesnt matter, anyone that can use this and get good effect from its stats and +dmg healing should of course roll need as it prob is a retarded drop rate and u may well not see it again for an eternity

if i had a pally tanking for my grp and he was using this then i would be a happy chappy seeing as how pallys are the most superior tanks in the game imho

This dropped for me. I'm still running around with my nagrand staff. I'm wondering if I can match this up with an off-hand item to bump back up my intellect and other stats. Any suggestions?

As a Tankadin, would you go for this over the Continuum Blade? It has an extra 5 spelldamge, 7 intellect, but losses out 6 Stamina. I think the Continuum blade is better for a Tankadin, as I don't have trouble with aggro but I do have problems as a main tank with my health (compared to a Warrior tank, which are our main rivals for raid tanking spots). Continuum blade is also far far easier to get (just buy it!).

Just a shame this looks so much better :(

Pally damage (Tank mode anyways) is 75% holy damage. White damage is limited and counts for even less as far as threat goes.

A prot pally with a "1337 dps" weapon wont pull as much threat as someone with a 2dps weapon with a bunch of spell damage on it.

As far as who should have it - discuss it in your group. Your pally tank may already have a decent weapon in which case he should be generous and let a poor mage with his take it.

This is ABSOLUTELY a Paladin tanking weapon. Agro is held through spell damage wich this guy has aplenty. Melee damage doesn't matter for a tankadin. Sorry there is more than 3 things in the dugeons we can roll on now until everyone else has it. Cope.

Everyone is talking about pallies and mages but what you guys seem to forget is that us locks LOVE our stamina.

After a bunch of researching I will be shooting for this over the horrid dreams for two reasons

1) MUCH easier to get (shadowlabs = huge pain in the ass)

2) Stamina makes warlocks smile.

That is all.

IMO this weapon is good for:

Mages
Warlocks
Protection Pallies

i.e. people who can make use of the stats on it.

Just cause it has good stamina, doesn't make it a warlock weapon. Stamina is needed by all classes to get your HP up for the new instances.

You've gotta be revered with them to get it, but it may be even more obtainable than mana wrath. Toss up for me on both, but I think I'll go for the Continuum Blade becuase its easier to obtain.

lol...so i think the old joke "HUNTER WEAPON" is out...the new one is "PALLY WEAPON!" seriously...now the pallies are rolling on all the warrior, sword rogue, hunter AND caster weapons. now don't get me wrong, i am well aware that prot pallies hold agro with spells. i just think its funny that every caster weapon i look at has tons of posts says PALLY TANKING WEAPON YOU NUBS! anyway, don't take me too seriously, and don't cry when you read this. :)

Ok, so this is a great weapon indeed, for a mage. HOwever, right now im using , which is great too. By using this sword, im losing 25 stam and 10 int, and crit rating, only to gain 30 damage. Whats a good offhand to use with this, that wont require me to run 50000 instance runs.

Allthough this is CLEARLY a Hunter Weapon ;-) , it works excellenf for me as Paladin Tank. It gives enough spell dmg so that I was able to replace some +spell dmg gear rather to get more stam and still have anough +spell to build great aggro.

Allthough this nice sword did not last so long as I am replacing it with the Continuum Blade from the Keepers Of Time.

Maybe I'll give it to a Hunter...

im a holy paladin and this would actually be a little nice as ur first healing weapon, i know it isnt the best (one dropped by first mech boss is very nice) but a holy could still use, especailly if u just respecced to holy like myself, and dont have a healing weapon yet

Despite all the comments that are telling you that goddamn +spell damage weapons are for anyone relying on spell damage, the fight is still debated: Pally vs. Casters.

I, being a holy paladin, would understand any caster rolling on swords that would be best for me. There is a certain reason why pallies/locks/mages can use swords. The weapon isn't specific for a single class. There isn't a trace of "<class> only". You've reached 70, and still haven't learned WoW basics. GG.

As for tanking... paladins use holy damage to tank. Righteous Fury increases the threat generated by holy spells. That's spell damage, not white damage. Roll a holy, prot or holy/prot (hybrid ftw) paladin and try tanking without consecration or spells that deal holy damage. I can't see what's so friggin' complicated. It's the way the game works. I can't believe some people ignore it. I only see retribution being able to use white damage over holy damage for its tasks.

As far as I know, the only classes that do not make usage spell damage are rogues and warriors (Druids are another story... or maybe I just complete don't know them. Besides, they don't use swords). Odd, they both don't use mana. They rely on special abilities that consume rage/energy to be efficient. Most of those skills depend on white damage (100% positive for warrior, but rogues... they still rely on something else than spell damage). What the hell do we mana classes rely on? SPELLS. We can't just bwarrrrgh! start hitting solely with a weapon. Stronger spells that aid us in the killing are what make us better.

My point? Anyone who can make usage of spell damage should roll on this if it's better than what the player has equipped already. End of discussion. More on the weapon itself, please?

i'm a pally tank on my 1st run thru Mech with my guild (im guild deputy) this dropped. in our group there was a rouge, lock, hunter, pally healer and myself. so as u can see this sword would have benefited any of us. once we "agreed" that i as a tankadain could have it the rogue ninjaed it at the last second! earned themselves a straight guild kick. but in 12 runs sinceit still hasnt dropped again! now have def ratin of 490 am headin into heroics but need a sword worth having. any ideas?
