I found the best area for these to drop is NE of The Crossroads arround coordinates, 54x,23y off of the Greater Plainstriders.

To the north of the Crossroads around the left side of Thorn Hill and the Path there has a large number of Plainstriders.

Also to the East of Crossroads (and a bit to the south) has a large number of them.

Be very mindful of Sunscale Lashtails. They have pretty wide patrolling areas and would like nothing better than to eat you alive before you have recovered from your bout with the plainstriders. If you can, take them out first and then work on the plainstriders freely for a while before the lashtails respawn.

It might have been just me, but I did this as a lvl23 BE Hunter and it was a total pain. I've killed and skinned up to 2 stacks of Light Leathers and only got 1 drop of beak.

not very nice drop... fleeting plainstrider on and near the mountain near wailing caverns and greater plainstrider around crossroads..
they are at lvl 11-13

I think the drop rate gets lower the farther from Crossroads you get. I had a terrible drop rate until I started killing right by Crossroads and then almost every one was a drop.

Very poor drop rate. Took me around 25 min to complete. Got approximately 1 out of every fifth kill. Did however not have a problem with respawn, just circled around crossroads and took them down. Found them around 54.67.

hey I just did this. Now I found things a little different than what most people said on here!

Yes I did kill th egreat plainstriders but it took me 11 kills to get 7 beaks. So my drop rate was pretty good, now I was also looking for plainstrider kidneys aswell. I don't know if that effected it as well as that drop rate is incredably low i only have five so far.

Either way patience is key!

This quest is now offered as well upon entering barrens from the east of Durotar by Halga Bloodeye. Very convenient considering the plainstriders are merely a few steps away from you!

I have done this quest a couple of times since I started playing WoW and it is one of my least favorite quests, because of the poor drop-rate. I suggest that you kill the plainstriders when you come across them, but focus on your other quests..this works for me because they are all over the Barrens. You will eventually get 7 of them!

This quest is pretty much the first warning sign on your long road to max level that not every quest is on your side in the jolly ride to end-level, and that RNG certainly is not on your side.

This is one of the worst collecting quests in the game. You have to normally kill 15-25 of them to get your 7.

I need to know if this quest is avaible only for players that sucefully completed "Segra Darkthorn". Im a troll hunter, and i dont know if "Sergra Darkthorn" is avaible for my race, or only for taurens, because i took "Crossroads Conscription", and finished it with Segra. Then, this quest doesn't appear me. Sorry for my poor english, it should be hard to understand what i trying to say. In simple words, the quest "Plainstrider Menace" is always avaible or only if i complete "Segra Darkhtorn" as a tauren. Thanks.

While the drop rate is excruciatingly painful, i believe it's that way to help balance out the experience gained from the sub-quests in each zone. At the Far Watch Post in the Northern Barrens, where you get this quest, there are only 4 (with an optional 5th) quests so I think they try to equalize it by forcing the player to gain more exp from killing mobs than they normally would.

I don't think it needs 13 plus, as I've never had any difficulty with Plainstriders. However, whatever you think about that, this quest is worth it, even if the drop rate's a little low. I did it while I was doing other things; I tend to kill any available enemies anyway as I'm a skinner/leatherworker and find it useful.

I find it's worth it for the nice quests it leads into; they're mostly simple killing, which I find is much like grinding with an eventual reward. Nice, in my opinion; I'd be killing these things just to up my level whether I was questing or not. Heaven knows why so many people complain about these quests, as they're intended to make grinding less boring rather than give massive rewards.

I found some Fleeting Plainstriders at 57, 28 on top of the mountain. They were dropping just about every time.

I headed EAST of crossroads and killed about 12 before i got my 7 beaks.

Try east and aim for the lvl 12 and 13's!

When I did that quest with my lvl 16 Tauren Hunter, I found that the counter off by two beaks when it kept saying "Quest Complete" when I had 5 in the bag and two more to go. I wound up destroying the beaks, and abandoning the quest out of frustration.

48,26 in the Barrens, you will find Plainstrider Beaks and some Raptor Heads (for Raptor Thieves)

The location above me is perfect. Plainstriders are all over that area. Took about 15 minutes to get all the beaks.

first drop was after about 13 min and it was at 56,50 Outhern Barrens

Just to the west of Crossroads I found a mess of greater plainstriders....got 7 beaks in about 15 kills, best drop rate anywhere. Just go out the western gate and off the road to the north.

Head east out of the crossroads and kill any Plainstriders you see. They should be right outside the town. Start moving south, and walk clockwise around The Crossroads, killing Plainstriders as you go. It would go alright this way

this quest is extremely simple, drop rate isnt bad at all, took me maybe 10 mins, i recommend the Greater Plainstrider around 54,24 i found the drop rate to be almost 1:3 could just be luck tho

How I did it.

I did it with Disrupt the Attacks and Raptor thieves, all mobs are in the same area and its good XP.

The droprate is not at 3% as someone stated earlier. I ended up with a total of 7/7 Beaks, and a droprate at 27% which I would rate as pretty desent for Azeroth rates.

Fine Q, easy to do as lvl 12 priest.

I just tried doing this quest and killing the Fleeting Plainstriders... didn't get one drop. Then I tried killing The Greater Plainstriders and I got a drop every 2-3 kills, I suggest going for the lowbie birds. =)

The drop rate is WAY better northeast of the Crossroads.

51,36 right of the road to wailing taverns. so easy the beaks dropped almost every kill. and the raptor heads for the raptor thieves quest were there too and drop rate on those were great as well. great xp too. anywhere from 86 to 115 xp for kills.

i was doing the raptor head quest and found plainstriders under the oasis dropped either everytime or every other time :)

71,55 is where i found the most...it takes some time to get up the mountain but once you get up there there are loads of em :)

Look out for some agrros at the peak of the mountain...you cant see them well coz of the fog but they are there....12-14 lv :)

this has to be one of the best 10/12 quest,mainly because I got
2 1/2 stacks of leather,4 light hide,and a medium leather

Omg the drop rate on this is really low! i was sitting here for about an hour. So if you do this your in for a long wait make sure you been a toilet and got a drink that is all i can say XD But yeah i think they should change the drop rate

Took me about 30 min to get all of them, but i soloed them with a level ten hunter! just kill em' near town. i know the drop rate is low, but i was pretty lucky, just go back to Sergra Darkthorn.

I got 4-5 quickly after climbing the hill to the south-west of the Crossroads. Coords 49,32.

It's pretty comfortable for a lvl 12 Warrior to solo this. plainstriders have pretty fast attack rate, but as long as you have a good weapon, nothing can stand between you and your quest

Hey the drop rate by MyPigBenis is great coz i was sitting here killing all these fleeting plainstriders and i got 1 beak in 1 hour... o i looked on the posts and found that greater plainstriders have a higher rop rate, killed a few and now look wher iam ... i need 1 more beak :D thanks MyPigBenis :)

Well I did get my macro for the coordinates to work for once and the drop rate was slightly better there for awhile at 53,38 but then the plainstriders quit respawning... how frustrating. I guess I'll get 2 more beaks eventually.

This is an easy quest line really. They just get better as you go up. Plainstriders are all over near the cross roads. The best place though is where the road from durotar tees into the road to the crossroads, just north of x-roads.

this quest, same as zhevra, and other monster killing quests in the barrens, just dont go out of your way to do. get the quest, then just do other quests, killing plainstrider/zhevra/raptors along the way. this is common sense, but its amazing how many people will work on one quest at a time.

Maybe they fixed something back in Vanilla days, but in Classic droprate is horrendous. I went for 20 kills w/o a single drop.

Try killing the Fleeting Plainstrider's they have a far higher rate of drop in my experience, of course, YMMV.
They are located to the South East quadrant made by the crossroads on your map in The Barrens.

Are you familiar with plainstriders? Useless animals. Can't fly. Gamey. Brain the size of my knuckle. Too dim to get out of the way of a moving cart. I've broken more axles thanks to their thick skulls... Sometimes I think the quilboar intentionally frighten flocks of them into the path of our caravans just prior to an ambush.

Make me proud, <class>. Cut a swath through those filthy birds to keep the roads free, and bring me their beaks as proof.
