I'm not sure if this is actually how it is, but I seemed to only get credit for killing the kuchong after it killed the manipulators around it. If it died before the manipulators, I didn't receive credit.

After you finish this quest, you keep the Sonic Disruption Fork. WIth it, you can easily take down dread kuchongs in like 5 seconds, and they are worth 17 rep towards the Black Prince. Rounding up mobs with 1-3 dread kunchongs as a plate class and tearing thru them will get you the 6k rep for the Black Prince quest in no time.

I had an issue where the quest counter stopped at 3 out of 4 killed, even though I killed at least 8. They just weren't counting. Didn't matter if I killed the kunchong before or after the manipulators. Relogging did the trick. After I restarted wow, the kills started counting again & I could finish the quest.

One of many quests in Pandaria that currently leaves the item in your bags after the quest is completed.

Here is a list of some of the quests and their items that remain after completion.

In addition to the above provided quest items that stick around the following are some quest items that can be over looted and extras may remain.

In all these cases the provided item or the extra looted items are safe to delete after the quest is complete.

Bugged. (If you'll pardon the expression :-)

DON'T USE THE SONIC DISRUPTION FORK DURING THIS QUEST.

I'm a 90 lock, every time I used the fork, the Manipulators AND the Kunchong all kept aggro'ing onto ME, kept getting chewed down fast by the group. Best to skip using the fork and just kill the manipulators one at a time, then kill the Kunchong.

I don't get it. Weather you use the fork or not you still end up trying to solo a lvl 90 elite. Plus, the master of puppets cool down is that long that its unpractical to use. I gave up on this lot of dailies in the hope of different ones tomorrow.

If it died before the manipulators, I didn't receive credit.

This happened to me too. I aggroed everything, hit the disrupting fork, and while I was killing the manipulators, the kunchong died somehow and I didn't get credit.

I have found that the easiest way to do this quest is to make sure that the disruptor waves hit the kunchong without getting any aggro. When that happens, he kills his captors himself, then just sits there waiting for you to kill him. The radius of the fork is pretty big, so I think most kunchong can be hit without aggroing any of the associated manipulators. The waves don't agro themselves, as far as I can tell. So just keep inching forward until it hits the kunchong. If not, just kill one of the manipulators and then the waves will hit the kunchong for sure. Make sure that you keep up the Sonic Disruption debuff that the disrupting fork gives him by redoing the fork, and run out of his Dread Slash if you don't have a lot of health because, even weakened, it still hits pretty hard.

My initial approach was the obvious one: to pick off the three Shek'zeer Manipulators one by one, then use the Sonic Disruption Fork and defeat the Dread Kunchong.

But note that the Sonic Disruption Fork induces a Sonic Disruption debuff on the Dread Kunchong.

The text for this debuff says "Weakened and recklessly attacking its captors. Damage taken increased by 200%".

So if you open with the Sonic Disruption Fork then the Dread Kunchong and the Shek'zeer Manipulators will attack each other, seriously weakening both.

The best strategy seems to be to

Use Sonic Disruption Fork
Keep attacking the current target of the Dread Kunchong until all Shek'zeer Manipulators are dead
Defeat the Dread Kunchong, who by now is in a very poor state and on whom you can cause triple damage
