As can be seen, this little fella comes in three breeds: Health, Speed, and Power. Now, most of us who are hunting for him via drop aren't going to get a whole lot of choice: what drops, drops. However, the question remains as to whether there's a "best" breed, in case you're looking at the auction house, or have one when a non-pet-battling friend wins one.

The Gooey Sha-ling benefits only a little from high health: it can roll dots, but it also has high damage, cooldown attacks that suggest it would do fine as a "burst" pet, so health is probably not an ideal breed.

Power can do impressive damage, especially considering one of its signature moves, Seethe, has a huge base power to make up for a relatively low accuracy. On the other hand, a speed Sha-ling is fast enought that it will get an extra virtual turn on most enemies, and its damage would still be very high.

Overall, I think I like speed best. As an offensive stat, it's roughly tied with power, but speed has another use: defense. Stun and automatic-dodge moves cause you to lose an extra turn when they go first, and some moves (forced pet-swap and kick-likes) will make you suffer when they go first but not nearly so much when they go second. Having a higher speed steals the element of surprise from enemies that are relying on it, and when you have the choice, that's distinctly positive.

One use I've found for this guy (mine is Ninja breed) is against Taran Zhu at the Celestial Tournament. Setting out D&D helps a lot against the pet swaps, leaving the ooze on helps too (Agony would likely hit harder, but the fight is so RNG at times it's hard to predict if you'll have a chance to get it off before the switch!). Call Darkness hits them very hard and makes their hits less likely to strike while not affecting the Sha-ling.

I use him in conjunction with Scourged Whelpling & Fossilized Hatchling. With the whelpling I set up Scourged Blood, then tail whip for the double heal, using Call Darkness on cd; with the Hatchling, I use Bone Bite, Ancient Blessing for heal when needed & BONESTORM to do incredible damage to all three Pandaren.

You can win this pet from the coin roll as I found out to my dismay tonight. Why to my dismay? Because I already had 2 of them. After 15 kills on my shaman, I have yet to get a chest piece.
